But I seriously can't wait to see Hashirama versus Madara animated.

The bit they did for UNS: Generations was pretty freaking awesome.

It was fairly simple and part of the main plot. It's a bit late to respond, but whatever.
Tobi needed all of the tailed beasts for the ten tails.
He was missing 8 and 9.
The last minute substitutions he got via Kabuto were backup plans as the current 10 tails is supposedly too weak. It might also be harder to control but im not sure.
So if he doesn't attack the villages just keep Naruto and Bee in hiding for a few decades while the entire ninja world hunts Tobi down.
Ergo Tobi has to attack to either get rid of them or to draw out Naruto/Bee. Either scenario is fine.
Current ten tails is what Tobi started doing when the plan went to shit and he had to improvise. I'm suspecting some backstabbing of Madara was planned but Kabuto cocked it up by making Madara come back via Edo Tensei.
ATM Tobi needs to finish Naruto and Bee off to make a proper ten tail to maintain everything and Mada needs to be properly resurrected to make everything happen according to his own plans.

Which is a pretty cool setup in its own right. 9-Tails/Susu VS. Wood Dragon (chakra sucker)/Living Wood Soul.

Maybe a flash back set of chapters coming up but it's gonna be an awesome look at these two beasts.

Madara kept himself there after the technique was released, like I said. Itachi used a super strong ultra omega sharingan genjutsu to exploit a buffer overflow and rewrote the programming.

It's kind of a grey area I would think. We have no idea how Hashirama gained control of himself other then "his DNA did it", whatever ambiguous reason that is. Madara re-sealed his soul into his body just as the original jutsu was released, thus being able to stay ET'd (I think something like that) and Itachi used Shisui's ultimate-haxed MS Genjutsu. So yeah, a variety of ways really
