    because mioko said this
In response to Pirian, as far as I've ever seen, any Prime avatar will resist everything that isn't the element they are weak to. For example, Ramuh Prime will 100% resist every spell that isn't earth based.
    in respose to this
Pretty sure they just absorb nukes of their own element and are immune to the element they're strong to.
so not only did I specify nukes in my first post, but he then responded with a response saying "resist everything that isn't the element thet are weak to... 100% resist..." etc etc

i realize the pressure of breaking a 3-digit post count is very stressful but it would do you good to read the entire discussion before you jump in on it.

100% resist doesn't always mean 0-dmg nukes does it?
it usually does (at least, I believe it does for elementals and such), I'll try landing thundaga on titan later

Eh, each type of avatar fight is different as to how magic works on them.

    - In Lv20 Battles, debuffs can land fairly easily assuming the avatar doesn't resist the certain element. However, you're not going to have access to a whole lot, just Slow and Paralyze really. They all also do not resist Light, Banish and Searing Light can do an acceptable amount of damage, but you always run the risk of normal magic resistance if you go on any day aside from Lightday. It's important to note that you can buff outside the BC, and you don't lose EXP if you die inside.

    - In Avatar Prime Battles, they absorb damage as HP if you use the matching element. Very resistant to debuffs that they are not weak against, but the only debuffs really worth using are Slow and Stun, because Paralyze and Silence will not stop Bloodpacts being thrown at you. Fenrir Prime and Diabolos Prime seem to be exclusions to this rule... they are dark element avatars, but don't seem to have an exceptional resistance to dark (besides Diabolos' natural immunity to sleep) or a weakness to light, probably due to the whole "Terrestrial Avatar" thing.

    - In Waking the Beast BCs, these versions of fighting the avatars are pretty core. They have smarter Bloodpact use, particulary with their spammage of Prime Bloodpacts that deals good damage and bypasses shadows, as well as produces more elementals for you to deal with (which carry Enspells and Enstatus on their normal attacks). Elementals are "smart" as well, using attack spells to heal the avatar as well as nuke you. Astral Flow Bloodpact happens at 10%-20% rather than 50%, elementals corrdinate with the Prime Avatar to cast an Elementga 3 spell at the same time. These avatars are all immune to Stun, Slow or Hojo lands relatively easily on most of tehm.

    - Avatars summoned as pets used by normal mobs are for all intents and purposes exactly the same as a summoner's avatars. They tend to resist magic and debuffs that match their element, but its certainly not anywhere near 100%.

i'd love to do these fights for a chance at Shiva's Shotel for my blue mage...hell just for fun, but it seems like alot of people have no interest in doing them.

It does drop some good items (Ifrit Bow, Shiva Shotel, Garuda Scythe for meleeBLM and Carbuncle's Pole for meleeSMN), but I think most of the reason why these BCs aren't done too often is mostly because there's simply little interest in fighting avatars.

That and the whole quest was designed by the lolCoP team. No one wants to fight 7 Prime Avatars for a pipedream shot at Bow or Shotel.

Carbuncle's Pole isn't actually a drop, it's a quest reward and everyone who does the BC gets it.

I know, but you get it from completing the BC nonetheless. Might as well count as a drop.

You can't really sac pull the carbuncles - if they lose hate they will all regen from 20% -> 100% at which point, you're royally fucked.

I didn't smn burn the last bc when I did it - we were first to win (/selfplug)

What we did was seperate into 5 teams. A mage + a melee (like I was w/ a war... 75 smn + war) and we all split up into seperate areas, each taking our carbuncle to a diff area so you would only get hit by 1 pact at a time. Basically, was teams of 2 2 2 2 and the other 10 would pick off carbys one at a time.

I see, so more like Dyn. Xarca NM kite/tank teams then? Is it difficult to grab the extra Carbies all as they pop? Do they spam Searing Light right away?

The avatars and carbuncles use Astral Flow when another avatar/carbuncle dies.

e.g. on round 3 of the avatars, say Ramuh, Leviathan, and Shiva are up. You kill Shiva, then Ramuh and Leviathan will both use their Astral Flows. Kill Ramuh, then Leviathan will use his Astral Flow again.

With all 5 carbuncles up, you kill one and they all use Searing Light together.

the astral flow seems timed to me...

because i remember fighting like the 2nd wave of celestials in that bC (2 celestials) and they both fired off 2hr after a while without anyone killing anything..

Well, I haven't done it since the day it came out, but I thought I remember them using AF when one died.

It's an unneccesarily tough BCNM that can be quite cheap. CoP at its finest!

Horribly is the word hehe. I agree how fun it was for our group of smns to go through all the avatar bcnms together though. I love seeing a community work so well together. Still, Waking the Beast is so cheap sometimes that it becomes frustrating.

i agree.. they shd make the weapon drops in the BC 100% 1 each. Thats fair enough, considering the whole amount of shit required to get to that BC and clear it.

Would it have been so game-breaking to let you choose from a list of rewards, SE? >.>

SE has a list so long of things they should do that this is a drop in the bucket. They will never..ever fix it. I did this the day it came out, lost to Carby, then found out the next day what the rewards were, loled and never went back. The other 17 Smn's in the group did and one or two swear on Carby pole. I guess if your meleeing with Carby, it would be..for whatever that's worth.
