    DS "Must Buy" Games

I just invested in a DS in anticipation for Pokemon Pearl. I bought Pokemon Emerald with it, but no other games, just so I can catch all the 3 legendaries from those games and maybe do a bit of breeding for some nice pokemon to put into my Pearl team (for wi-fi battling).

My question is, what good games are there for DS. I'm particularly interested in RPGs obviously, and I almost bought that Kirby game for the DS but I didn't want to get it if it wasn't good.

What do you all recommend for wi-fi play and/or just good entertainment value. I don't want to simply have a DS and only pokemon games lol.

FF3 is good? It sounded alot like controlling your own party from FFXI (able to change jobs etc.)

I played Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and I enjoyed it, is Portrait of Ruin the DS equivalent in the series? And if so, is it good? The whole partner thing kinda turned me off to it. I like the ideas of familiars and shit like in the other Castlevania.

I hate Mario Kart I played it on my friends DS (original) and it was wi-fi but it was sooo boring.

How do you play Tetris online? Like side by side competition?

The Kirby game is by far the best use of the touch scree/stylus in my opinion. Very fun game. I think its Kirby Cursed Canvas.

Also all the games mentioned above.

    Metroid Hunters
    Yoshi's Island
    New Super Mario Bros
If you liked Botkai, Lunar Knights is the sequel, and it's good. But for all things holy don't get confused and buy Lunar, it blows chunks
    Hotel Dusk
    PW1&2
And don't forget about the GBA library.

I would suggest you goto a best buy and try out elite beat before buying, I tried it and was not impressed. Also try Trauma Center...it's not for everyone.

    Diddy Kong Racing
    FFIII
Possibly Metroid if your into that type of game (I just dont like the controls in this one)
    Lunar knights

Get Golden Sun 1 and 2, FF6, and any zelda games too if you want. They play very well on the DS and are all classics.

Besides what has already been mentioned, I recommend Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. Might do a number on your thumbs, and isn't terribly long, but it is FUN. Also, the Mario/Luigi RPG is pretty good.

As for Tetris, there's different "modes", like Mission Mode, where the first person to complete a certain amount of them wins (one mission will be clearing 3 lines at once or something), and Adventure mode, Puzzle Mode, and so on. Only some of them are multi player modes, but the music on this version is pretty top-notch (remixes of classic NES games like Mario and Metroid), and the rest of it isn't bad either.

Don't know what you mean by the DS equivalent...

Think of Portrait of Ruin like Julius Mode from Dawn of Sorrow, but you don't have access to Alucard, you can specify what equipment each has access to (both weapons/armor and spells/special weapons) and you can have both people on the screen at the same time. From a practical standpoint, I've rarely had both on the screen at the same time (IE only for access to certain points of the game where you need the two or your first character is disabled in an OH SHI- situation). Also, I have rarely used Charlotte (comparable to Sypha/Yoko. I have only used her to get me out of a jam in certain boss fights), preferring Jonathan (the "Belmont") to do the straight up asskicking.

I have got my worth out of the game, especially once you get Richter/Maria and the Sisters Mode.

Americans generally don't like to import. It's no use!

Besides, what are the chances of someone wanting Smash Brothers style fighting game with manga character on their DS?

How exactly do those supercards work? Can they play both GBA and DS games? The english on their site is terrible, so I'm looking for a bit more detail.

The older slot 2 ones do. (Slot2 is the GBA slot in the bottom, basically slot2 cards look like gba games, slot1 like nds games)

Slot1 currently has no GBA support, so I don't suggest it.

Basically, you get a flash cart (Supercard, M3, etc) and put a memory stick with your games in it, and run. You can run GBA games like that. To get it to play DS games, you have to either flash your ds yourself, or get a passkey type device. (which looks like a NDS cart)
