Each manga has its own theme world. Each world is divided into like 3 stages. Basically, you have to complete several objectives per stage (most of which are displayed as ??????'s until you complete them). By completing these objectives, you obtain various little jiggies you can use to upgrade your panels, and usually you'll get a new panel as well. You have no way to find out what the rewards for these objectives are, or where to find a character you want, except that in general the character will be located in the theme world of their manga. A lot of these objectives are fucking ridiculous and tedious, like breaking the sides of the stage in less than 15 seconds with a complete shit character that they force you to use.
Fighting is just annoying. Either characters are shit, or they're awesome. I was able to zerg pretty much every match with one character who had like a laser arm that almost always shot people out of the stage if it hit them. On the other hand, every time I found a character I
wanted to use, they were shit, and their specials were easily interrupted, which wastes your energy regardless. There's support panels but either they do nothing useful until you find some magical omgtheyweremadetobetogether<3 combo, or they're active support, and do shit like throw out health powerups at the low, low price of half your energy, which your enemy can then pick up at their discretion.
Someone compared it to SSB? It's nothing like it. The closest thing I could compare it to would be Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers.
