Different KB tanks?

I leveled BRD for my NIN because I wanted to tank Fafnir (if my LS lets me).
I was thinking about the regular tanks, Paladins.
Has anyone tried PLD/BRD?

I don't remember for sure, but I don't know if Mazurka works there, if Behemoth's Dominion is considered a dungeon or not. If it does, then that's lots of hate and +12% speed, which can stack with Crimson/Blood legs making +24% running speed, but that might be a little overkill and you could probably swap out for some DEF gear. All the PLD would need is a RDM and/or WHM for Refresh+Haste.

Any thoughts?

Pld/brd would suck vs kb, reason is the way mazurka works - hate is generated by number of players it hits. It'd be extremely hard to have more than 2-3 ppl in range of mazurka near the tank imo. too much running around.

I was messin around and tanked Gration PLD/BRD a few days ago- was told it wouldnt work because of the way Mazurka builds hate- but i still managed to hold hate off 3 BLMs for the majority of the fight; and managed to keep mazurka up as well. Its probably easier with /WAR (in terms of hate management/accumulation) but if you have people catering to your /brd (ex. having a brd in your pt following you around to get hit w/ mazurka- and singing you ballad2/sirvente will enhance the effect of your SJ. Having a RDM or WHM follow you for it would increase the effectiveness of the songs too.

If it starts casting meteor on you- you can run to 30 distance and start singing as he finishes meteor (it will be out of range and wont land) and it will finish casting before he can hit you.

Melee zerg it like KS99. I wouldnt be surprised if it was actually easier with longer casting time on meteor.

Or your RDM that "accidentally" chainspelled it at 90%.

after kirin kiting on my brd this past weekend, I realized that brd kiting can be efficient, primarily because main brd can use harps which extend AoE signifigantly, I couldn't imagine it working very well with only /brd. Course, up until a few months ago if someone told me I'd be a decent tank on brd and enjoy it, I'd laugh in their faces. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes for you.

Actions past a certain distance from the mob dont generate hate.

If the rules change for someone who is allready the tank, I dunno.

I thought it was common knowledge that Mazurka only generates large amounts of hate if it lands on multiple characters.. lol

There's a post by a Lv68 BLM on the KI forums introducing an amazing discovery. Apparently elemental skill only effects resistance rate, and not damage. Who would have thought?

Punch Line: Both of these guys seem to be outside "common knowledge's" sphere of influence.
