Al'Taieu was constructed for the Chamber of Eventide only, but its technology and power is far more important at freeing the Kuluu and returning them to the Zilart then was really noted. Sky was for Zilart only.

Here's a list of the ruins I can remember

    Ro'Maeuve
    Temple of Ugg{TAB!}
    Pso'Xja
    Ru'Aun
    Al'Taieu
    Fei'yin
    Tower of Delkfutt
    The 3 Crags
    Horototo Ruins
Then ToA has Olduum, but it is not related.

Least its not as complex as the ToA storyline so far.
Al'Taieu is not Kuluu maintained. It was the Zilart capital. Tu'Lia had more of a purpose, whereas Al'Taieu were to be more majestic being a capital. I would take a guess that Lumoria is the city's defense system? With luminians being organic defender creatures or creatures that were morphed and luminions being inorganic defense creatures or something.

I seem to recall a CS stating the terrestrial avatars are mere beasts-- or, at least, would be if Vana'diel returned to paradise. I don't recall anything about the terrestrial avatars being afflicted with Emptiness. They also don't seem to be mortal, either. However, as I recall, their power seems to be derived from the fact that the crystals are separated and that Vana'diel is not paradise. Whereas the celestial avatars would remain gods even if Vana'diel were returned to paradise (and might rather prefer it that way, too, if they were awake).
The cutscene after you kill the doll in Delkfutt states the whole terrestrial avatar beast thing.

I think Alexander is the leader of the 6 sleeping gods/celestials and Odin is maybe against their plan of paradise, but is still evil in that he is not on the same side on us when it comes to other matters.

EDIT: Seyrr makes a good point. Also, people are saying the Olduum ruins resemble the design of Pso'Xja and Horutoto (are there 6 major sections/towers?) and Olduum is spelled/spelt similar to Kuluu.

It appears you didn't pay attention to CoP at all... which is pretty common.
Al'Taieu is the Celestial Capital of the Zilart.

Also: How is the technology in Tu'Lia "more advanced"? Tu'Lia was built as a weapon to be focused on Vana'diel, Al'Taieu was built as a place the Zilart Royal Family would reside.

The Kuluu inhabited Pso'Xja and the Horutoto Ruins.

It. Is. Not. A. City. Tu'Lia is not a city. It's a big fuckoff cannon.

The Quasilumins of Al'Taieu are Zilart who survived the disaster that befell the capital after Bahamut attacked, was defeated by the Twilight God, and was locked away by Altana.

Uh, no. Seriously. Go to some Goblin Footprints/Town Bards. The Celestial Capital is where the royalty of the Zilart lived.

    Concerning the ruins you listed:

Al'Taieu - Celestial Capital of the Zilart. Note the cermet structuring indicative of Zilart technology. Al'Taieu held a city of Zilart, which you can see if you look near the base of the royal palace.

Ro'Maeve - Also known as the "Temple of Altana" and the "Temple of Desolation". This was one of the Shrines the Dawnmaidens built to recognize the gods Altana and Promthia. The Dawnmaidens were the clergy of the Zilart, these ruins were also fashioned with cermet.

Pso'Xja - Containment camp for the Kuluu. Many Kuluu were sent here via the portal where Diabolos Prime resides. Note the brick-style construction.

Horototo Ruins - Another containment camp for the Kuluu. Fenrir resides in the Full Moon Fountain in this land.

Temple of Uggalepih - The residence of the Tonberries, which those Kuluu who sided with Diabolos became. Notice the structure of the Temple is similar to that of Pso'Xja and Horutoto, along with the Tonberries' pacts made with the avatars.

Holla, Dem, Mea and Fei'yin - Crags which house the mothercrystals that are found in Vana'diel. All of these were connected by the Crystal Line for drawing power from the mothercrystals to feed power to Tu'Lia. The attack on Fei'Yin by the Kuluu from Pso'Xja led to the Meltdown. Zilart constructs of cermet.

Tu'Lia - A supercannon focused on Vana'diel that draws power from the Mothercrystals. By bathing the Emptiness in the light of the Mothercrystal, it becomes harmless magicite. The Kuluu fear this weapon because it was built with the intention of eradicating them. Typical cermet build indicative of Zilart technology.

Tower of Delkfutt - The "control center" of the Crystal Line, which reads the crystal data, including that of the lost crystal in Al'Taieu.

Olduum, as you said, doesn't seem to be related to either the Kuluu or the Zilart, but its construction seems similar to that of the Kuluu.

Fei'Yin is not a crag. The fourth mothercrystal lies below Zvahl, hence why Drogaroga's Spine goes towards the shiney setion (shiney because of the crystal) in Xarcard. The Kuluu attacked that crag, but the reason Fei'Yin is badly damaged is because it is nearby.

That's just a theory of mine. We do know that Emptiness can coexist with the Terrestial avatars though. Selh'teus as the new Phoenix is a good example of that.

Pretty sure they are. Karuha-Baruha killed himself and Fenrir based on the method of summoning he used. Today's summoners don't try to control the avatar completely, rather they make pacts with the avatars to "borrow" a portion of their power and project it into a being they can command.

Not entirely sure how the Celestial Avatars play into the whole scheme of things, other than we know they're opposed the Terrestrial Avatars. Hoping ToAU will at least try to explain this through Alexander and Odin.

Hmm, maybe "house" was the wrong word. Fei'Yin definitely is an "ark" that's connected to the Zvahl crystal though, as Grav'iton said is was the focus of the Kuluu attack in the Sacrifical Chamber cutscene. Its entirely possible that the crystals can be connected through the crystal line and the Arks are just batteries for storing the energy, which is why the attack on Fei'yin caused the destruction of the Northlands.

Actually, I think Fei'yin was the counterpart to Delkfutt's, IE another control/monitoring station. I remember one of the map Quasis(I think in Ru'hmet) referring to Fei'yin as an "outpost."

I've never done the Windurst missions, so I don't know the story about Fenrir and Karuha-Baruha's revival, other than it involved a PUP? Either way, it seems that Fenrir's death was more of a fluke due to some magics people weren't supposed to be messing with than anything, and he's still around. You can kill Fenrir and Diabolos Prime and he'll still be around, storywise, too. And there is no slumbering god "real form" of them in a crystal either, so the Prime is really them, it seems.

Just a quick side thought regarding the reason for various beastmen/other monsters being in Temenos/Apollyon. I actually noticed this back when the article came out, and thought it was kind of cool.

First, we have a Vana'diel Tribune article on the famed Orc Doggvdegg, whose slaying of the San d'Orian monarch at the time earned him the title "Kingslayer" and was the beginning of his rise to power. He vanished in Xarcabard near the end of the Crystal War (at the same time that many Vanguard Orcs found a new home in Dynamis.)

Then, we have Central Temenos, Floor 4. There's a variety of chests throughout the area, which can spawn various nasties to fight, including one Kingslayer Doggvdegg.

I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but the connection's there, I'm certain.

No, their death was definitely because of the summoning method he used. He tried to not only control Fenrir, but his vast power that governs the moon and stars. Using it he was able to obliterate the forces siegeing Windurst, but the power wrecked his mortal mind and body, and based on the connection he made with Fenrir, Fenrir passed as well. Literally, he forced both of their souls to become one.

The loophole which allowed Karuha-Baruha and Fenrir to be revived was Joker. Karuha-Baruha likely knew what he was getting into to save Windurst, so he made a contingency plan. He imbued a portion of his soul into the Cardian he made with the help of Zoppa-Zippa, the Taru held prisoner by the Cardians in the Boyahda Tree. When he summoned Fenrir to attack the Shadow Lord's forces, the portion of his soul in Joker connected with Fenrir's as well. Its assumed that by doing this, he kept at least a portion of Fenrir alive in this respect.

Joker is Fenrir, but also Karuha-Baruha. If you've completed the Windurst Missions and defeated Fenrir Prime, give your Dark mana Orb to the SOBs in Port Windurst. You'll be able to tell who it is.

As for Karuha-Baruha's revivial, who knows? He didn't seem to be revived at the Full Moon Fountain. Maybe he committed to this plan knowing he wouldn't be coming back, but he put a portion of his soul into Joker solely to make sure Fenrir and his power would return to Windurst.

Yeah, that's what makes me think Limbus is where stuff eaten by the Emptiness eventually ends up.

As for what Fei'Yin is, I think it's another monitering station, like what Deftscythe said. It is grouped with Delkfutt and Ro'Maeve by a quasi. Maybe it moniters the transfer of the crystal energy or whatever, or is the "command center".

On a side-note, I think you are risking your life or whatever like Karaha-Baruha but to a smaller degree for all summoning since the Tribune article with Carby mentions
I made just such a request of a local summoner. Alas, the summoner refused, saying "Summoning Carbuncle involves far more effort and danger than you seem to think. It is a very interesting question, but it is not worth the risk."
When I next met the summoner, he greeted me by saying, "I finally got them," and showing off the mittens he was wearing. The were, at first glance, unremarkable. The summoner informed me that they were in fact valuable items that eased the strain of summoning.
    EDIT: Link

Hmm, maybe for Apollyon, but Temenos? There doesn't seem to be any Emptiness in Temenos... And Dynamis isn't a manifestation of the Emptiness, it's Diabolos' "dream world", the two don't seem to be connected.

I'm just going to write this off as Limbus is an enitrely separate event they came up with because they couldn't think of how to involve Lower Promyvion or Ou'Hpat Obelisk in their original forms into the storyline. But then again, that doesn't account for the construction of the zone, as we knew both areas did not have maps and both would be treated similarly to BCs with many more rooms than normal thanks to area .DAT readers. Perhaps the event of Limbus was intentional, and they just decided the mobs inside would play cameos?

Ro'Maeve had the task of transferring energy to Tu'Lia. Delkfutt's Tower actually sat near Al'Taieu's original location, as was the place where crystal energy was examined and directed from (and still is, more importantly).

The closest crystal to where Al'Taieu once stood is the Zhavl crystal. That would probably be way it has a full Zilartian name instead of the shorthand used for the other three, or maybe it was just a more powerful crystal than the rest.

The Nightmare mobs (except maybe nightmare tauri in DTavnazia) are dreams or something.

Concering Limbus: I think the entire Obelisk was swallowed by the Emptiness and became Temenos, hence why you "Liberate" it. Signs of Emptiness doesn't have to be shown, since the monsters look like regular monsters.

Concering the Mothercrystals: I believe Holla/Dem/Mea/Vahzl/Al'Taieu are not the names of the mothercrystals, rather they are the names of the areas around it. They are usually referred to by number I believe? Holla/Dem/Mea/Vahzl would refer to the crags of the first four crystals, and Al'Taieu would be the name of the capital where the fifth and final crystal resides.

Concerning the Ruins: So I would guess Fei'Yin triggers the energy transfer, causing the crags (and the capital of Al'Taieu???) to sap at their power. Then the energy gets monitered and collected at Delkfutt and then transferred the energy to Ro'Maeve which transferred that energy to Tu'Lia. Or am I not getting something?

Delkfutt controlled it. Fei'yin was the battery, like a giant capacitor for the energy.

Fei'Yin is the the component of the Crystal Line used for channeling the energy through the line. When the Kuluu borked it, the Crystal Line overloaded and triggered the Meltdown.

Also, why does everyone think that Tu'Lia was originally designed to be a weapon? It was designed as a gate to rip open the way into Paradise -- the ability to destroy Vana'diel is an (unfortunate?) side effect.

As for Omega and Ultima, I guess I got my locations mixed up. If I recall, Promyvion is the internal structure of Emptiness given a form by the light of the nearby Mothercrystals. With that in mind, I suppose it would make sense for Proto-Omega to be guarding the Mothercrystal, only to get eaten by Emptiness. As for Ou'Hpat, I'm guessing that Proto-Ultima's there to discourage tomb robbers or something. <_<

Well, one can travel to Dynamis through two methods. One method is through Diabolos. Since that's unlikely, the other method (which PCs know and use) is to acquire matieral from Dynamis itself and use it as a medium for transport (like the Vial of Shrouded Sand that we use to enter).

The Beastmen obviously have access to such artifacts as the hourglasses, you buy them from goblins, after all, and you buy them at the Beastmen strongholds. Wouldn't be so far off as to say they probably had a method for entering and didn't realize it.

Except there's no "Emptiness" in Temenos. At all. The Kuluu weren't even allowed to be buried there for fear of defiling the Zilart burial grounds.

I would say if the mobs in Limbus are connected to any facet of the storyline, perhaps they just stumbled in. You can enter Sea through the Dimensional Portals, after all.

Holla/Dem/Mea/Vahzl would refer to the crags of the first four crystals, and Al'Taieu would be the name of the capital where the fifth and final crystal resides.
Well, the crystals themselves don't have names... I don't recall saying that. I do recall saying that each Ark was connected to a crystal, and each Ark was named. "Zhavl" is the region where the crystal connected to Fei'Yin is located.

Delkfutt's Tower did all that. It's said numerous times in a few cutscenes in both RoZ and CoP.

Fei'Yin was an Ark for a mothercrystal.

Except for the fact that Vana'diel is Paradise. Vana'diel is Paradise afflicted by Emptiness, an intentional affliction by Altana to prevent Promathia's power from destroying himself.

The reason Tu'Lia is reffered to as a Gate of the Gods is because it has the power to return Vana'diel to its original state of Paradise.

The only offensive usage of Tu'Lia is when Eald'narche realizes that he can never reach Paradise and instead just tries to kill everybody. Unless they retconned something, Eald'narche and Kam'lanaut distinctly speak as though Tu'Lia's going to bridge the way into what they believe is "Paradise".

I realize that Vana'diel itself is a corrupted form of Paradise, but I don't believe that (at least) Eald'narche knew that.

I think Jeryhn just figured out the mystery of Temenos. It's safe to assume the Orc dude maybe stumbled in a Dimensional Portal in Xarcabard. Good idea with Dynamis, too.

However, I still don't think Fei'Yin is a mothercrystal. I would think it would have been called Fei'Yin rather than "northernmost ark" in ZM4, and here is ZM4's dialogue:
Grav'iton: Wait. Lay down thy blades. Welcome, brave adventurer. Thine arrival can only mean one thing. "They" have once again begun their rise. Thou must forgive my companions. They remain bound to this place by the spirits of the past. Though they do not yet realize it... Ah. I have yet to introduce myself. My name is Grav'iton Berisacci, a scholar from the lost civilization of Kuluu. However, my colleagues often referred to me by the sobriquet, Tonberry. I represent the collective consciousness of the remains of what was once a great race of people. Listen carefully, for the tale I am ab out to tell these reaches far across the plains of time -- back ten thousand years. It all started with a mere crystal and the mysterious power it held...

Deep beneath Vana'diel rest five enormous crystals, all more powerful than any force on this planet. The Zilart used that power to develop their civilization. The five arks, also known as crags, tap the crystals of their power... The Crystal Lines tie the arks... And Delkfutt's Tower controls the flow of energy... However, this was only the beginning. They had other plans for the power of the crystals. The Gate of the Gods... It is said that bringing the power of the five crystals together will open the gate to the heavens and transform Vana'diel into a paradise for the gods. However, we Kuluu, along with the followers of the Goddess, the Dawnmaidens, were against this plan. We voiced our disapproval to the Zilart, but they were too driven by their self-centered motives to lend an ear to our pleas. The Gate of the Gods -- the floating island of Tu'Lia -- was constructed, and the Zilart's plan was put into motion. A fantastic amount of energy was drained from the crystals and focused into Tu'Lia. However, while this was taking place, we Kuluu led an attack on the northernmost ark and destroyed it, putting an end to their abominable plan. Unfortunately, this act caused the crystals to spin out of control. The world was engulfed in a blinding light, and the Zilart were destroyed. The land where the Zilart resided sank to the abysaal depths of the sea, while the overwhelming power of the crystals laid waste to the Northlands, leaving them uninhabitable.

Grav'iton: Those Kuluu who survived the happenings of that day fled here. However, the power of the crystals left its mark on us. As time passed, our bodies and minds degenerated into the form you see standing before you. We do not regret our actions. It was a small sacrifice to save Vana'diel. What will happen, happens. One can sit and ponder over what could have been, but that would only be a waste of time. We must move on. The world belongs to all who reside on its fertile soil. We could not let it be transformed into a mere playground for the Gods. However, when I learned that Delkfutt's Tower remained unchanged even after the accident, I could sense that something was amiss. At that moment, I know our fight was not yet over. Heed my words, young adventurer. Thou must travel to the small island of Zepwell, located to the southwest of Bastok. There thou will find remains of an ancient temple. There thou must join the eight fragments of light. Only then will the Dawnmaidens show thee the path thou must follow. The fragments can be found embedded in eight stone monuments located in remote areas of Vana'diel. As to their precise whereabouts, that is for thee to discover. My time has passed. There is nothing more I can do but stand back and watch as this drama unfolds. Ah, yes. There is one more thing I must tell thee. Beware of the elder prince of the Zilart. The bond he has formed with the crystals is great. His magic is truly powerful. He has already crossed the boundaries of man and stepped into the forbidden realm of the gods. Thou must be careful. I will not pray for thy success, as it is not prayer that will lead thee to victory. Thou will do what thou must to overcome this great evil. Here is the first fragment to start thee on thy journey. Now, be off! There is not much time.
However, it doesn't mention Fei'Yin separately, so it very well may be a crag. But the fourth crystal/Vahzl's crystal lies to the west of Pso'Xja and Fei'Yin. Maybe Fei'Yin was just a city for Zilart that weren't in Al'Taieu?
