They are probably losing money because everyone is buying the free 'HD Radio', that combined with internet streaming stuff.
Yea I heard satellite radio loses money like crazy.
You're kidding right? So far, the HD Radio rollout has been a dismal failure. Most radio listeners don't know what HD Radio is and couldn't care less either way.
They've both been losing money for a while, but a lot of that has to do with the massive capital necessary to launch any project that involves the use of satellites. Sirius, however, achieved positive cash flow for the first time in Q4 2006 (link).
I'm still not convinced that the public is ready to pay for radio, but this is definitely a smart move for them. The only real trick is getting it past the FCC.
Some of their new services, such as TV and enhanced weather and traffic data should be pretty cool in the not-so-distant future.
people listen to satellite radio?
Meh, they added it for free in my Benz.Originally Posted by Zalius

There's some great sports programming on satellite radio, but other than that there is absolutely nothing else selling it as far as I'm concerned. I graduated from using a radio for music/news/sports to just carrying an ipod around and getting sports/news from the internet. The idea of not only going back to radio, but paying for it just does not appeal. Who cares if it's satellite? I can drive from Vegas to LA and find Westwood One covering sports with no more than 3 minutes of interruption, changing stations at most 3 times (that's how I listened to the colts/pats game). Seriously, I can live with that inconvenience if it's free.
get with the times you sparkling wiggleOriginally Posted by Keno
If you know what you're doing, you can drive coast-to-coast listening to the exact same music playlist on the radio the entire way too. Yay for massive media conglomerates.Originally Posted by Correction
Ive had sirius for like 4 years, it is amazing how bad it makes regular radio look. If you have never even used satellite radio, you really have no idea how much better it is than normal radio. And it really isnt expensive at all either.
Not worth $9-12/month, I'll take podcasts and music on my ipod nonstop tyvm.
Complaining about $9/month? Sirius wouldn't fit on your bike anyways, don't worry.Originally Posted by Po
Its only $7 for each radio if you have more than one on your account.
You're right, but it would fit on my 30k car. Go fuck yourself pal.
Edit - Meant for Keno.

If you enjoy tossing money out then stick with satellite.
Isn't it illegal to download songs for free?
