I'm currently looking for a place where I can buy laptop mother boards that isn't ebay!

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone buying a laptop mobo all by itself.
I've seen them on ebay but no where else and its pissin me off!
I imagine it would be difficult to find a case that would fit a random mobo (since the cases are usually designed with the intent of holding the stock components and little to nothing more). Most people consider it too much trouble to attempt to build a custom laptop and go through a service such as ibuypower to get theirs.
i think it's a bad omen that my laptop crashed after clicking this topic for the first time
if you think you're somehow going to be able to build a "cheap" laptop then you sir are dead wrong.
You might want to consider a older generation ibm thinkpad. They are very affordable and excellent for web browsing.
I'm trying to replace a current mobo that burnt up literally but the processor is still good just some connections overheated after it fell out of my backpack after my backpack broke.
the *best* thing you can do then is go online (ebay) and pray they have he same model mobo on there. A lot of the time you CAN get lucky and you might get it for a fair price since people stay away from these type of things. Mainly because they have no reason for it.Originally Posted by Ikith
If you can find the bottom part without the LCD attached to it, that's another affordable path to take but it really depends on what laptop you're trying to fix. If it's something that can easily be replaced then it's better to just replace it than to work on it.
You can probably get one from the manufacturer. Chances are that any other place selling them, without basically doing what you can do anyway in terms of parting out another broken laptop, would be getting them from the OEM too.
'course the downside is that you'll likely wind up paying $600-800 for it.
Part of what I do is maintain a laptop base for student athletes...I've seen a LOT of warranty parts and work done, including motherboards. If your motherboard was damaged from a drop, chances are so were some of your plastics, and 90% chance your hard drive was as well.
eBay, or something similar, is likely your best bet for not spending close to what you could just buy a new laptop for to fix your old one. Find one with a cracked screen or something that you can swap parts around with.
EBay is really your answer, or i'd just get a new one. Anywhere else will be too expensive.
Try and google laptop kits you can build yourself. I've seen places where you buy case/LCD/mobo/processor and put it together yourself and it's cheaper.
It is possible to purchase from the manufacturer... but nine times out of ten, they will charge in the 500++ range. Best bet is either get a scrapper and swap parts, or go ahead and plunk for a new one.
(ps. Dropping is why I suggest getting complete care/accident protection on laptops)
Laptop is about 5 years old now but it has treated me so well! Anyway yeah I don't know what it is but a little thing got burnt.Originally Posted by Sigi
