I hate the fact that I have been playing forever and didn't know this.
Should have freaking realized it too, but meh.

I went 5/5 Cure Cast Time, 2/5 Barspell, and 3/5 Regen. I keep a "Regen Cycle" for PLDs mcuh like haste. It's always up... always. even with only 2/5 Barspell, I can see how much it helps, and have considered maybe changing to 3/5 Barspell instead. However, since getting Assassin's Armlets, I don't spend a ton of time on WHM...
Anyways, I find that cure cast time is amazing, and helps a shit-load for NIN tanks specifically. However Regen seems to be built more towards PLD tanks.
I also macro in Blessed Briault into my barspells, and eventually AF2 legs when I get them. Probably feet also, when I get them eventually.
Anyways, someone earlier made the right comment. There is no right answer for the best WHM merits. However covering the bases seems to help more than trying to stick to one thing, which is why I chose a split rather than a main focus.
I was wondering if it's really worth it to buy Blessed body just go macro in for my barspells.
As for my WHM merits...I'm about to finish off Cure cast time, then unlock Martyr and put another merit into Devotion, then do barspells I think.
I don't think I'm going to get Pro/Shell 5 since it's just like 2 extra def isn't it?
Prot5 isn't worth it, but Shell5 defintely isOriginally Posted by Gregorio
Blessed Briault is nice just for the MP boost alone. The Elemental resistance is a very happy plus.Originally Posted by Gregorio
You've convinced me. Just bought one. XD
Now I'm kinda excited to merit bar spells (and cap my enhancing magic)
Your tanks will love you if you max out Shell V. Pro V is worthless, pretty spell but no thanks.Originally Posted by Gregorio
And wow doing Enhancing Magic merits. I love bar spells but not enough to get rid of my Enfeebling Magic merits;
Grats on the new Briault!
Know you already got it, but just to reiterate, yes it helps a whole lot and every whm should macro it in. I think my setup is maybe a bit lacking? But it puts in: Briault, enhancing torque, cleric's pantaloons, cleric's duckbills.Originally Posted by Gregorio
You're only missing 2 possible items: augmenting earring (3) and merciful cape (5) aside from enhancing merits. All of the above (excluding merits) will put you at 121 barspells.
Breaking 120 is actually key due to the availablilty of elemental resist gear available to tanks for something like Tiamat.
Umm, couple of thing I haven't seen clearified in this post, but think is important to state.
-Blessed briault doesn't give you more resist on your barspell; it gives an added 5% dmg reduce on the element of the barspell used. (Ofc I could find the post on these boards backing this up, but yeah, I saw it here.)
-As for Enhancing magic affecting your barspell resist, (I'm just saying this for those that don't know,) it takes 5 enhancing magic skills for 1 resist. So since WHM enhancing magic caps at 230 @75, you wanna pump your skill ups by 5 to get unwasted enhancing magic skills from your gear/merits.
As for merits, like Sylphet, I have another 75 that requires other magic skills, so meriting enhancing would gimp me more than I am. I am, however, curious about what is the max resist you can achieve with merits. Anyone have numbers?
126 including cleric pantaloons+1 augmenting earring enhancing torque something cape clerics feet, capped enh, merits and skill - i think that's all.
most people have other jobs that need the merits, but if you were whm only enhancing merits are okay - should also effect barstatra spells and technically stoneskin though that isn't a serious consideration unless doing level cap.
oh that's 230+3+7+16+10+5 = 271
270/5 = 54
54+50(base)+22(pants+1)
=126
rdm/whm has more enhancing skill but can't wear the af2 pants obviously which are equivalent to a massive 110 skill.
since your question has already been answered //exec works instead of /console exec aswelljust makes it a little shorter, and you also dont need the ; at the end of each macro line ^^;
