    Virtua Fighter 5...

So yeah... no online play, and a fighting game can only last you for so long as a single player game before you get tired of it.

Did anyone pick it up? I don't want to pay for it unless it's actually really good.

Oh and lolsony bashers go away, no one cares that you think the ps3 sucks.

It works for guys like me who have a lot of friends to play fighting games with locally. I've never had a good experience with online fighting games. Ever play Guilty Gear XX Reload on Xboxlive? GOD DAMN.

Yes I understand having online fighting games isn't that great, but unless it's a masterpiece it's going to get boring really quickly, even if you do play it with people locally.

No online? =x. Was one of the few games that would make me want a ps3.
    Dunno now.

VF5 can't do online play because any lag would fuck up the matches. VF's gameplay has always been precise so any delay from lag would make for an unfair disadvantage.

I didn't know GGXX could (attempt) online multiplayer. How bad is it? Like MK2 on a SNES emulator bad, or just a lot less fun without being able to talk to the other guy bad. And I assume it's #reloaded rules because that's the only one they brought to xbox last I checked.

I was kinda annoyed with #reloaded after they nerfed Jam's 5H > sweep > jump retrieval combo and Dizzy's ice spike damage.

The EGM review loves this game, and says that the online play doesn't take away from it. A lot of customization is available I guess.

It's really bad. You press up and a second and a half later your character jumps. There has since been 2 new versions of Guilty Gear XX that are JP only for now. :/ GGXX Slash added Holy Order Sol as a character and turned Ky and Jam into God tier beasts. Haven't heard much of the newest version yet. They're both on Japanese PS2.

Soul Calibur isin't online and I've always had heaps of fun with it... just make a game night with some buddies, have a great time, pass the controller around.

Japanese arcade version of VF have been online since VF3, so there's no reason to think that they couldn't have PS3 version online and still have it be playable. By the same token, JP Dreamcast MvC2 was fully online and ran practically flawlessly, yet for some reason a machine like Xbox in the US couldn't handle a slow ass game like CvS2 without ridiculous lag so maybe it's just something flawed in the translations of fighting games to US consoles.

On the GG derail, / and AC are both the most horribly unbalanced games in the series (from XX on, no one cares about GG or GGX). Nerfing Eddie and buffing Potemkin? Yeah, those moves made sense. Make Dizzy even slower? Fantastic idea! Tournaments in the northeast are run on AC these days since there are machines in Mass. but casual play still ends up being XX or #R.

Potemkin was one of the least popular characters as I understood (in XX), Eddie just had a steep learning curve. And how did they make Dizzy slower, increase the cooldown on her already punishable specials and HS moves?

gametrailers gave it 91% rating, said lack of online kept the 10% of purists happy, but was dissapointing to the other 90% of the fans.

Apparently its the benchmark for nex-gen fighting games, but I don't see alot of competition atm for that title, lol.

just get to the arcade to play vf5 with a person face to face if you guys like online so much.

As for the gg nerf, eddie nerf was expected for slash since ogawa could have been said to win the whole sbo by himself 2years ago. Slash move chipp up the tier list to a nice place. Now people actually uses him and such. Jam was broken in slash though. (hello there kaqn).

I kinda agree that the ggxx series got to end. No more endless ggxx#1233445. Kind of getting boring and such.

On the other hand Arcana Heart is GOOD

Potemkin in XX was rough, but #R Potemkin was pretty solid. In / they gave him more moves that absorb damage and made him a little quicker overall. In AC they (maybe inadvertantly?) gave him all kinds of nasty OTG stuff, sorta like Anji's typically OTG poke strings... only you can end them with supers >.>

Eddie's steep learning curve and ridiculous commands (holding specific buttons while rushing with poke strings wtf?) is what made him balanced. If you can do that stuff then you deserve to be towards the top of the tiers. Eddie with less pet time and less corner lockdown options makes him not even really worth learning unless you just truly enjoy playing Eddie.

Dizzy has just gone downhill every version. From removing FRC of her spike, to long cooldown on fish, to removal of the bubble loop, she's been smashed into the ground. Throw in match-up nerfs, like Potemkin's newer dmg eatting moves, and she just can't compete much beyond May.

I am a hardcore VF fan, if you dont have anyone to play with, or some arcade place you can go to that have this game, then dont bother. Its complicated and its not fun if you just gona play with CPU.

And lol at all those reviewer that says "no online play?? this is teh sux!!." online play will never work with this game, unless you playing with someone next door lol. On the other hand, i dont see anything worth buying on PS3 right now more than this game anyway lol, give it a rent and see how it goes.

If this is how it is I might just rent it and see how fast I get bored with it.

Sigh, and I actually thought this would save the PS3 for the time being... guess it's back to playing PS2 games on it again. (Resistance bores me for some reason..maybe I got addicted to GoW.)

From what I've read VF5 arcade has online play?? If it works there why wouldn't it work on home consoles?
