Connection Problem

I have 2 laptops, a desktop, PS2 and a 360 connected using DSL at home. Recently one of my laptops has been having weird connection problems. Both laptops are wireless. The PS2, 360 and desktop are not.

Once I boot up i'm fine to connect to internet, AIM and as long as I actively browse the internet my connection is fine, but once I stop and let it idle for about 10 minutes or longer it no longer connects to any sites. The connection on the lower right hand corner of my screen still says excellent but still nothing. None of my other connections have this issue just this one laptop and I really have no idea what it might be.

Sorry if my explanation makes no sense, any help is appreciated though.

Try that laptop with a wired connection to the router and see if the problem still occurs, you need to try to eliminate things one by one.

1) does your laptop go into hibernation or stand by when you let it idle?

-> this could be a problem with your wireless nic coming back up to ready... and you'd just have to reconnect to your wireless lan and that should fix the problem... (of course you prolly dont wanna do this everytime>.>)

2) are there any other wireless networks listed in the list when you double lick on the icon where it says your connected?

-> it could be that you are some how connecting to a diff wireless network with no internet access, or something else... this could easily happen if you're in a apt complex or whatever.

3) if you go Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig /all what do you get?

-> if it's something silly like 169.183.blah.blah then you arent getting an ip address from your router for some reason, possibly part of reason 1 i put up there...

4) are both your laptops the same?

-> if they are this could rule out reason #1, if not reason #1 is still viable

5) do you have a wireless nic PCMCIA card? USB adapter? or is it integrated into the PC

-> USB and PCMCIA would be more apt to be #1 up there...

that's all i can think of atm... if you are getting a good connection normally then its prolly not a nic problem, i myself think its more of the first issue i posted up there as I've had that happen in the past...
