Re: Bad Timing To Buy a MacBook?

Jobs has said that there are some new Macs and iPods coming out this summer but I would think that it's going to be more like the end of the year. It's supposed to be a whole new line of products, not just the same models with new colors. If you are really not in a hurry at all then I would wait for that.

As for Leopard, who knows? The latest rumor is end of March. If you can wait then you can see if the rumors are true. But then again, it's a new generation OS so it could be buggy. If I were shopping for MacBook I would probably buy it now and just figure I'd get the Leopard later.

I don't know about the new macbooks but I had several friends with the older power books had trouble with sound cards getting grounded it out if you aren't careful with them. When that happens it's damn near impossible to replace the sound cards from what they said.

I like macs but I prefer the G5 powermacs. The laptops always seemed to have issues.

your gonna have trouble with any computer/laptop at any given time period.

i personally just started using macs last year when i started college and i love them i rarely have any kind of actual computer problem with them. I plan on buying a powerbook for my school work as soon as i decide which one i can afford and i cant wait to use it.

i have had a 1Gz powerbook for 4 years, and it still works like a champ. i normally have it on 24/7 and only reboot it after sporadic updates. for whatever it's worth, i can attest to the fact that macs are excellent machines and OSX is definitely more stable and visually pleasing compared to Windows. plus, you aren't constantly threatened by virus, malwares or what have you, and i don't have to run a bunch of utility and security programs on my mac just to keep threats in check like i do for my PC. what's not to like?

the only reason i still keep a PC around is because of my silly dependency on a couple PC games, and as the popularity of macs increases, i am sure software companies will start porting games over to macs if they haven't already. WoW is a good example.

Mac laptops tend to be quite good, and past that, actually reasonably competitive in their price point. Personally I've not seen many fail, and still have a 400Mhz TiBook hanging around that I got new back in '01. Works like a champ.

The basic Macbooks were bumped up to Core 2 Duos a bit ago, which makes them pretty attractive packages.

That being said, if you can afford to wait a few months, 10.5 should be out soon enough. New hardware probably as well. But, that's computers for you, always something else around the corner.

To OP - It's a bad time, They probably are going to be updated in a few months. That would be the time they usualy update all their hardware line up.
