Fei'Yin Shadows

I've noticed this a long time ago, and its always bugged me.

I've never seen any mob, even other Shadow family monsters display this behaviour.

It seems only Shadows that wield Great Swords link; all other shadows do not. Is this common behaviour among shadows? It does not appear to be listed anywhere I check.

I have too, im not sure why they do...but the Hydras in Dyna-Beau link as well, this is probably just due to it being Dynamis though. If i remember right, the Shadows in Fei'Yin were the only "shadow" mobs until CoP came out with Fomors and shit, so maybe SE decided that Shadows should follow the basic undead family rule that they dont link.

Fun fact: the only linking Weapons in the game are in Ro'Meave (i think)

i know they dont link, i dont think i have ever seen one with a GS link (i have hunted shadows a lot)

Hmmm...well i just forgot the one time i can remember farming shadows in Fei'Yin was when i had competition from some dude PLing his god damn internet gf or something, so i just Flashed the 2nd one if it popped in the same room as one i was fighting.

I do recal linking 2 Spriggan in EN once. Not sure if one had a GS or not but I was quite shocked when they linked.

edit: changed name of mob, i forgot which were coffer mobs.

go try ^^ I was literally like WTF when it happened. I'll have to run down to EN sometime if I can remember. It wa son the bottom floor. I completely forget why we were killing them, maybe to break someone's latent/get a coffer key. I pulled tho and was quite stunned when two came. Full HP and everything so I am quite sure it was a link.

Yea. It was weird, which is why I remember it. Just asked the guy I was helping on latent too. He said he linked nearly an entire room of Sriggans last week. Not sure how they link but they do. Someone should go test how, lol.

I thought that they don't link but they do link with Shikigami Weapon or the reverse, not positive.

I used to spend a lot of time there... And yeah I remember getting them linked every so often. It was weird because sometimes they linked and sometimes they didn't, although I guess the OP's theory could explain that. I haven't been back there in forever though.

I have foggy memories of EN shadows linking, but not FY shadows.
On another shadow-related note, I have vague memories of a shadow-type mob in Eldieme using dark knight magic, but I have never heard reports of non-NM shadows having the DRK job. I think it used a spear.

I heard that all evil weapons used to link, hence why RDM weapons cast magic on other evil weapons.

The ones by hume bones in EN definitely link somehow.

What theory? The OP had no theory that I see.

I do recall Fei'Yin shadows linking, however. I remember from helping someone do WHM AF3.

I don't recall Eldieme shadows linking, though.

I think the theory was that Shadows using great swords (usually BLMs, I think) link while others do not.

That would maybe make sense.. there was a version update that specifically adjusted those mobs to BE blackmages.

I can totally get on board with them fucking up the linking behavior when they did this.

The main job of dark stalker-type monsters (shadows, etc.) has been changed to black mage. Now these monsters have the ability to use various "-ga" spells.

What were they originally? DRK? If so, that could explain my DRK encounter in Eldieme (it used a spear I think). It would also explain why they're broke.
