    You never played FF12?

Rogue Galaxy is a cool game, just out recently for PS2 as well(RPG).

I might look into getting a PS3 when oblivion comes around on March 13th.

Yes I have it for PC allready, but my PC can barely handle it on the lowest graphical settings.... so $600 for a PS3 or $600 for a new vid card and ram....

I'll take the new PS3, lol

Armored Core 4 looks really cool, I'm a semi Mech fan, I loved the Front Mission games, and previous Armored Core games. Apparently the online combat has the latency of Resistance(see REALLY GOOD LOL)

That is quite possibly the most ignorent statement you've ever made.

If you seriously believe a port of a Gamecube game is the best game the Wii will ever get, god help you.

Every console starts off with a fairly shitty library of games. Using your reasoning, I should've dismissed the PS2 for maxing out on SSX and having nothing else worth playing for the first 4 months of its life.

I just love how because the Wii is doing nearly 2 to 1 sales of the PS3, it must have already maxed out and will gradually decline in sales. Sometimes, when you're outselling 2 to 1, its because you're outselling 2 to 1.

As far as supply issues? Thats because the system is continually selling out. I'm sure you're right, that the sales will start gradually declining, as soon as everyone in the world has one.

It's times like these I hate the fucking French and Germans.

Sony are fucking EU around because the Continentals are too lazy to game in English, forcing developers to translate, forcing me to wait months for any release. This is payback.

And on that note, I'm off to buy FFXII which was only released here yesterday.

Oh and fuck France and Germany.

Just to continue this conversation, lol. And add to my ongoing ignorance of the Wii.

You're comparing the PS2 which at the time of it's release was argueably the technical climax for home console gaming technology, in comparison to the Wii at this moment, which is far from it. They haven't had 5 or so years of prior development for the PS2 at launch, while they have for the Wii.

So yes I'm believing that an essential Gamecube port is the best it will ever get. Unless Mario Galaxy or another Zelda down the road offers some radical new gameplay, which is possible.. but not likely. I know graphics aren't everything, but unless find some new radical new gameplay for them we won't be seeing anything we haven't seen allready on the Wii.

As a straw poll of the console wars from the pester-power standpoint of my class of 8-9 year olds... about 5 of them want a PS3, another 10 are still trying to get mum and dad to track down a Wii, and they're ALL Nintendo DS obsessed.

To me it looks like they're trying to rake back losses by cutting corners on the EU market - I keep a PS1 around to play PS1 games because of the problems my PS2 has had with reading discs, but a key thing I generally look for in consoles is the backward compatability aspect of things (the number of consoles in this house is getting ridiculous and it's just clutter).

As an aside - anyone got a link to fixing the PS2 laser problem? I'm 90% sure it's what's causing the problems with mine only reading some discs - and hitting the console doesn't work.

I have faith in retro studios to make the best metroid prime of the series.

My opinion, but Metroid > Zelda

I have to agree with Xavier on this one. If history has told us anything about consols they always get better with age. With new systems the developers are being carefull and not pushing the system to its limit. As they work with the system more they learn how to push it farther and squeeze out higher performance, they become more comfortable with its little details and learn how to use them better(like the wiimote).

Just look at the ps2, the system was weaker than the xbox but through the life of the system games continually looked better and better with respect to previously released games. Now the games on ps2 look better than they ever did before because developers are very comfortable with the system and know how to milk it for everything it has.

you either mis-interpreted what I said, or missed it entirely.

When PS2 came out it was new tech. When Wii came out it wasn't new tech, its essentially the same technology used in the Gamecube which comprises the Wii.

So of course PS2 got better with age...Gamecube's been out since 2001, so the Wii technology is almost 6 years old in essence, so its not new to developers. The only thing they really have to learn to utilise is the new control scheme with the nunchuk and motion sensing.

And developers not taking full potential of the Console system? of course they are, it's their job to ensure they do. The companies they work for expect them to pump out the best game possible to generate THE most sales possible. Thats how they do business?

"Ok guys I want you to use our 50 million for development to do a half-assed job and make us half the sales we should be getting."

Of course they try to make the best product they can... I think you may be mistakenly confused on that idea?

Let's bash Sony and their evil ways! Anyways, every time I see the Wii included in the console wars I giggle

Although the PS 3 is facing an uphill battle (lack of titles, below average costumer support, price, and good competition by Microsoft) I believe eventually they'll overcome that with the help of third party support (release the "next gen" games most people are waiting for to warrant a purchase). A price drop wouldn't hurt either, mind you :O Till then, I'll keep playing with my PS 2

I know how a game comany works, I have been in game companies before, I have talked with producers who worked on big budget games. I understand the pipeline of game development.

What I don't think you understand that in the business of game development there is more to creating a game than just "Making the best product they can" there is a very fine line balance between working to get the best product out they can and making sure it happens fast and works to optimise profit.

The reason why games for game systems get better over time is becaue in the begining it is too expensive for game companies to put research and time into how to optimise a system and use it to its full extent. Over time each game a company releases for a system gets a little bit better than the last technology wise, runs more efficiently, has better graphics, has larger environments... each time they make some discovery to make the development pipeline more efficient they continue to use that for future games.

I guess what I am saying in short is yes game developers work to use a system to its full potential all the time but what the "Full potential" of a system is expands and changes over time.

Wii games will get better the longer companies make games for it.

    ^ Very awesome post.

Also, please, for the love of god, don't ever diss or underestimate one of Nintendo's big beasts like SSBB, that game is probably going to sell more than any other console title this year.

But just saying that the Wii is "Gamecube technology" is a stupid post, and dissing it on graphical power alone is a very stupid and ignorant debate. I'm sure a lot of people around here know about how popular WoW is despite it not being graphically as impressive as a lot of its competition (and even though I'm not a fan of it myself, I'd be a fool to brush it off, so I consider it a similar anology). The ability to "pick up and play" and "appeal to various ages and demographs" is a HUGE market potential, Nintendo proved that. Also, the Nintendo Wii, like every system before it, needs time to bring out the big guns, saying it has already reached it's popularity and graphical peak with a ported game with gamecube-graphics is ridiculous, no one can tell me that they have any grasp on the Wii's full potential here, because they don't know either. It just shows how powerful Nintendo's franchises can be when done well, and how underestimating them is a big mistake. I remember for a long time the best thing the 360 had to offer was Geometry Wars, but hey, it got better. Now, with the Wii's popularity and acceptance, developers are gonna look at it, and develop for it. That means third-party titles. A system not selling does NOT equal third party titles, developers are not simply gonna make games for the Ps3 "just because", it's gotta sell better than it is, and it probably won't for a while. It may NEVER catch up completely, but it sure as hell can do better, I know.

The weird thing about all the current consoles being released... of all the consoles, the only one my dad was interested in buying is the Wii. This is the same father that does not play any console games, and considers gaming on a computer to be playing the MSN Spades game.

If a company has made a product that interests the absolute non-gamers to the point they wish to purchase the product, chances are that the product will be extremely succesful.

If Nintendo didn't know what they are doing, they wouldn't have been around for over 100 years. Plus, people keep forgetting that Reggie, Siggy and the crew at Nintendo of Japan have learned their lessons from the GC. While online may always be weak, Nintendo themselves will always deliver a fantastic game and they've done all they can to reach out to third parties. The main thing missing with the Cube was the install base and intrest and that led to third parties not caring. Now the tables have turned.

SSBB is going to be a beast in sales, more so if they deliver on online play like they said they were and there's loads of other stuff coming on down the pipe. Keep in mind, everyone poo-pooed the DS too, saying it's only perk was the price.

    Now who's laughing?

The biggest thing I'll bash Nintendo and the Wii for is that its online strategy is still horrible. Maybe Xbox Live has spoiled me, but the entire Friend Code system is pretty lame.
