Very nice guys... I understand that your trying to compare addons to vista's real features... Unfortunetly there are features that I can't show you. For example (This is mostly for people that are new to computer but still just in case) if a virus program that installs itself f.e. you get a bad version of limewire thats embeded with shit loads of viruses that install themself to your computer after limewire has been run all of the files that are installed are confined to a folder called /virtualdata/ and can only infect that folder as one of vistas features. Also you get built in drive encryption with Buss and Ultimate so no more programs to download on that. It also comes with its very own virus and malware scanner which is another nice feature. As for gamers that want to play later games you will be forced to go up to Vista because of DirectX10 unless you want said game to emulate to DirectX9 which decreases the graphics and FPS of said game. But the more addons you can do the more power to you. Just remember soon all games are going to require DX10.
I highly doubt that.
Producers don't make games to use features of DX10, they make games to turn in a profit. By using DX10 you are loosing millions of potential sales and no one is that stupid.
There are no features of DX10 that outweigh the benefits of lost profits. Eventually Microsoft will release their own DX10 games.
I don't even think Microsoft could legally pay people to release games for DX10 instead of DX9 due to antitrust, though they would get away with it anyway.![]()
DX10 is the only thing I reconsider for buying Vista..
and again, if it's only a few games launched by next 1~2 quarters using directx10 fully, I don't think I'd buy Vista for it.
The other cool thing about vista is how accurate the voice recognition is... In fact I'm typing with it right now! This is so cool!
Vista offers nothing i need or want at this time. But if i do come across a free version i'll try getting a dual boot on my computer.
This is incorrect, been using the time crack for vista for weeks now its still at 30days and it updates from windows update fine.Originally Posted by Ikith
Its very average though, wouldnt pay so much for this, its just XP+1
This poll lacks a "hell no" option.
I'm currently using Windows Server 2003 tweaked to run like a desktop XP version.
It's designed to use memory more efficiently, as it's required to run server applications and services.
The best part is I was able to boost my RAM up to 8 GB. XP Pro will only recognize up to 4 GB. Having that much more memory allows me to multitask like a mofo.
Personally, I could care less about bells and whistles. I tweaked Server's memory usage down dramatically, using only 34 MB of RAM when nothing's open. This frees up almost the entire 8 GB of RAM to run my programs, and unlike XP, Server 2003 won't use the paging file until Physical RAM is exhausted.

Recently, I bought a new laptop that had Vista Home Premium pre-installed on it with 1GB of memory.
Needless to say, the damn thing was paging like crazy. It took a full ten seconds to open the start menu. Task Manager was showing 50% memory usage. Whether this was from the OEM pre-installed shitware or just from the sheer crappiness of Vista I can't say, but the first action I took was to burn a 'recovery CD' (as if I needed to recover to Vista) and upgrade (yes, upgrade) to a MSDNAA copy of Windows XP Pro. Now my laptop flies.
I do miss the Vista startup sound thoughI like that so much.

There are other workarounds for Vista torrents.
If you had access to a RC1, or 2 CD Key (I Think you can even still sign up for one) You can use this key to activate the RTM version of Vista Ultimate.
The activation will work and you will not need to stop the timer - however the copy still will not come back as genuine. There are a few tweaks you must do to clear this, and it is not complicated. After replacing a few files and entering your CD Key, reboot and your good to go. I am even able to download all the updates and extras for it.
*Note* the genuine validation tool will fail if run, so i just hid it.
I have had Vista Ultimate running well past the 30 day mark and it functions and shows no difference than the actual retail copy.
A huge mistake on microsofts part was allowing the OS install to complete without requring the CD Key to be entered.
my girlfriend just bought a laptop, and is having it shipped to me instead of her for the sole purpose of me reinstalling XP Pro on it instead of the Vista Premium that comes with it.Originally Posted by Mifaco
