Do you even know if IA was submitted to the Academy when it was released for review?
Because it seems kinda stupid to cry foul if they never even submitted it in the first place.

Not sure, don't really care anyway. A movie doesn't need an oscar to be good
I'm writing this just to respond to how a lot of people seem to think the departed is the better film while not watching both... and because I'm bored as fuck right now in the office >.>
but nobody said the departed was a better film, just that it was an awesome film.
I don't think anybody has said IA sucked or anything. And you have to remember we are Americans, where anything foreign is evil.
qft. No one has said The Departed was the better of the two itt (in the Departed thread, maybe...but not here), that's just you assuming things again. All we've said is that it IS Oscar worthy, not MORE Oscar worthy.Originally Posted by Xavier

You're taking somebody with "ass" in their name serious?
onoes, I lose that one.![]()
haha, you've got a point there, but you'd be surprised how many people out there, or in here, actually think that way... or maybe you wouldn't beOriginally Posted by Xavier

Good Night, and Good Luck was fairly well done, but I don't know if it was Best Picture caliber. More than anything, it was the movies overall message that was important, since its relevent today again. I liked Munich too, but I never saw Capote.Originally Posted by Tyche

Probably a good bet, but I liked infernal affairs, I never knew departed was taken from it, nor that this movie was as big as it is untill last night. I saw leo d'sucko was in it and gave it an F automatically.Originally Posted by markasstrick
Leo is a really quality actor now, imo.
He was good in Titantic I felt, but then kinda had a series of so-so movies. His partnership w/ Scorsese though has been really good imo. I really enjoyed Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed.
How closely is it to infernal affairs? I guess ill dl and give it a shot if its as good as the original.
actually leo is really not bad at all now... if you've already given an F to departed and won't change your mind, I still suggest that you go watch blood diamond, that movie delivered like no action movie has in a good while now and a lot of that credit goes to leo
I still think you're missing whats important here. The Departed wasn't running against IA for Best Picture. It was running against The Queen, Babel, Letters from Iwa Jima and Little Miss Sunshine.Originally Posted by GRT
So while I can understand the disappointment (I guess, I never saw IA so I'm taking your word for it) between The Departed and IA, all you can really do is compare The Departed to the other films nominated in the category.
I won't lie, I only saw The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine, so I'm not qualified to say if The Departed was the best out of the bunch. I do know I enjoyed The Departed more than Little Miss Sunshine, even though Sunshine was really fun to watch. I still really want to see The Queen but I'm just going to have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
When you watched little miss sunshine did you cringe thinking just what her routine would be having her totally degenerate dirty old man granfather in charge of her routine.
I thought it was hilarious when she started dancing up there.
Heh, yah well, I'll compromise in saying that it's our differences in opinion in what should qualify as a best picture. In my personal opinion, though, if a nominee is a remake, it should at least be a remake for the better... and it shouldn't win the award if it's not better than the original even if it's better than the other nominations.Originally Posted by Xavier
but let's set that aside a bit and let me go totally off topic for a bit... check this out:

man, that trailer just excited me as much as the 300 one did although in an opposite way, anybody else think that looks immensely intriguing and maybe even somewhat spellbinding? :D
Arguably the best movie ever made.. Definately was a good year. Really too bad Last Samurai came out the same year though, because LotR caused it to be vastly overlooked.Originally Posted by Lbelle
You mean Dances with Wolves with samurais? I've got 3 brothers and a sister, and we all saw it together. First and only time we all agreed on a movie...it was the definition of mediocre. If it wasn't for Ken Watanabe, that movie would've been absolute garbarge.Originally Posted by Keno
