current rumor is the "new" 360 they may be pushing with the hdmi and bigger hdd is gonna go for $480, im hoping that they stick the hd-dvd in it and make it able to read games. but its still wait and see. at this time though, the ps3 is ahead hardware-wise.

Ok but hes arguing HD-DVD vs. Bluray and you're arguing PS3 vs. Xbox 360.

In terms of the players you'll never know the difference, screw the players in the systems, they're always cheap as fuck.

ok, well then technically bluray is slightly better, but i agree, it can go either way depending on which one the market is better for.

ALMOST MAKES THAT $600 PS3 SEEM REASONABLE LOL

Although that part about how the entire library of congress would fit onto about 6 discs was really cool. I'm looking forward to when we've reached the matrix like state of just tossing discs into our brains to learn information.

Lol yeah, it is ridiculous. But when/if the price goes down, it'll be kick ass.

Game Informer or EGM (one of the two) reviewed the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 and the built-in Blu-Ray PS3 player a month or two ago. If I could find the article online I'd link it, but they basically said that the 360's add-on makes HD movies look crappy and the PS3's is essentially as good as a commercial player (no discernable differences.)

HD-DVD is going to die out, because Blu-Ray has both a larger installed base and a faster-growing base than HD-DVD, plus wider commercial support and better quality plus increased longevity as a format. The reason to buy a Blu-Ray player over a HD-DVD player isn't the quality of the discs, it's the fact that two years from now there won't BE any HD-DVD format.

The PS3 is more than just a game system. It's also a Blu-Ray player. You get an incredible amount of value for $600, IMO, but if all you want to do is play games then a 360 is just as good. They're going to have almost all the same games in a year or so, as more developers go cross-platform. This built-up rivalry is such a joke, both systems already share the vast majority of games released, the only real difference is whether you'd rather play Halo 3 or FF13 / MGS4 (which will probably be released on 360 a couple months after PS3 release.)

Maybe it's the threat of cross-platform spreading that's pushing console designers into this rivalry, because they're afraid that consumers won't purchase more than one console if there aren't really any more exclusive titles. It's almost a moot point, however, because their aims differ - Nintendo wants to secure a niche spot by creating unique titles that are exclusive (clinging to the current business model) while Microsoft just wants a piece of the console market and Sony is focused on the larger goal of winning the format war (which is pretty much decided.) Plus, hardcore gamers will probably just buy all 3 systems if there's even one major exclusive title on each.

his isn't VHS vers Beta all over again. This next gen format war won't follow the same footsteps. The biggest flaw in assuming one will beat another is the fact that only a small percentage of the world population can even take advantage of these new formats. Off the top of my head, isnt only 30% TV owners HD? And out of that 30% how many think they need a new HD format. This next gen format war will come down to the customer and choice. You can't push products on customers that won't buy it if they don't need it. Their is no clear winner yet on this format war and even your own "Sony owns 6 out of major movie" argument can be countered by their very own Betamax adventure where superior product lost to their retarded marketing mistakes.
What? You say this isn't like VHS vs. Betamax but then you say things like "a small percentage of the world population can even take advantage of these new formats". What do you think people were saying about VHS and Betamax back in the 70's? Only 30% of people own HDTVs now? Well, that's a pretty significant chunk to start with, but more importantly that percentage is only going to grow with time. The battle is being fought (or has been fought, you might say) now but you won't see the aftermath for another few years - businesses that only plan for today and not for tomorrow are the ones who go Chapter 11.

Sony lost the VHS/Betamax war because they refused to let porn movies onto the Betamax and because they were slow in signing on studios. Guess what? Almost all the major studios now support Blu-Ray and the porn industry supports Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD. Porn was crucial in deciding VHS vs. Betamax and also in pushing DVDs onto consumers.

You haven't "countered" my argument, you just said that Sony failed with the Betamax so they'll fail now. I fail to see the connection.

Although, back when the VHS vs. Betamax was happening, you couldn't get a billion videos and images of porn at the click of a button on the internet either.
