Nintendo let people buy into the hype of the wiimote, and added zelda to the mix and eureka... it worked. Trust me, after having the Wii for close to 5 months now, I can tell you that the hype was gone after 2....still a great console, still a lot of fun, but it's not that exciting once you get used to it.

Its so funny that people think a $600 console is suppose to outsell a $250 console.

That's the point. Everyone knows (should?) a $600 console is fucked. Price is a huge determining factor in console wars. Sony didn't think so and now it's starting to show. They're following in the footsteps of NeoGeo/3DO/CD-I.

The results of all this will be game developers reallocating resources. Hopefully it'll force Sony drop the price a lot sooner then expected.

I can understand that but that doesn't seem to be the case right now, game developers are still going to Sony and Microsoft due to the power of there console and the online services, which Nintendo completely lacks. Also read a nasty article that the Wii is being back the friend code system that the DS uses for the Wii, which is a BAD idea.

Edit: I agree with Exo the price is a factor but the lack of games is the biggest factor, hell its the reason I dont have a PS3 right. I wont buy an 360 due to the fact that they breakdown ever more then the PS2 did. I get a red ring and ill uppercut someone :D

Price is probably the biggest factor.

The Wii has had no real amazing games since launch and its selling like hotcakes, the PS3 has no real amazing games since launch and its not. People are more willing to spend their money on something cheap than expensive, all things being equal. If the PS3 only cost $250 I'd have already bought one, just since I know there are games I wanna play down the road and wouldn't be opposed to dicking around w/ ones out now.

After seeing a PS3 on a friend's HDTV...I gotta say man...that shit looks incredible. People don't seem to understand that you're not just getting a video game system in the PS3. You're getting a multimedia center, a movie theater, an interface to the internet, and who knows what else. Home looks incredibly cool and promising, and best of all, it's free. From what I see you can spend a huge chunk of time in there. It's obvious that PS3 was future proofed. If price is still an issue I'm sure the price will drop and that the system will still be prominent 5 years from now.

Yup, PS3 will stink its first year just like the PS2, only this time it actually has competition so it's more obvious.

Let me remind you that the 360 wasn't all that great when it first came out, just like the PS2 wasn't... but people still bought it because it was "next-gen", and was the only one on the market at the present time.

Yes, I will buy one when the PS3 has some good games (with a price drop), as many other will, but it won't be enough to save Sony. They have to appeal to the masses and $600 price tag won't do that. You can't judge what Xavier, or I or people of BG do to predict a system's future because we're hardcore.

And once again, if you're a developer starting a new IP or a sequel right now, where do you place your resources? That's the most important question, where the new games will show up. Someone here was wondering why there's no new RPG announcements for the PS3, it's probably because they're trying to figure out how to bring them to the Wii. Developers go where the software sells are and that won't be on a $600 system.

Maybe, but I don't think it will age quite as nicely as the PS3. The only game on the Xbox that I enjoy is the Halo series. I'm glad the 360 exists and is cheaper. It should hopefully push the execs at Sony to put out bigger and better products. Competition is good.

Maybe the new 360 will look better than PS3 with HDMI, but if microsoft actually releases it without the option of the CURRENT 360 owners to upgrade their own systems into HDMI somehow (maybe through the external HD-DVD Player), they will piss off many many people.

PS3 still looks better than 360, as long as it's not a ported game (since it seems that most multi-platform titles currently coming out are being made for the 360 and then being ported to the PS3, hence making the 360 version look a lot better and we've seen it with most multi-platform games currently out.)

If developers wanna go were software sells they will put it on 360/PS3 because the 360 has more units available then the Wii. It will go to the PS3 because its an easy port. That is the problem the Wii is going to face developers can go multi platform with 360/PS3 due to the fact they have similar hardware and controller scheme but to port that title to the Wii they will have to do a shit load of work, which we know they wont due. As far as RPG's go the 360 seems to more then the PS3/Wii combined, hell the only Wii RPG's I know of are DQ swords and Fire Emblem.
