I played the Blue Dragon demo too and the game wasn't really what I was expecting. Graphics looked nice and all, but the game seems aimed at 12 year olds. The tower part was way better than the forest, but the dialog and all was really childish. Probably doesn't help that all the characters look and sound like they haven't hit puberty yet either.

I'm sure it'll be fun because I didn't mind the gameplay too much, but the story didn't seem very exciting from the demo.

For graphics I'd agree. For gameplay I think the standard is still set by games that came out 5-15 years ago, not much has changed in the genre since... For story/atmosphere, Doom3 or HL2 still beats Gears any day of the week in my opinion. Guess I just expected more, but in the end it is just a console shooter .

What I find really funny is the fact that so many people, including the person that made the initial comparison, are saying that Resistance and Gears are at completely different ends of the spectrum and aren't comparable.

Things everyone should know/remember about Blue Dragon:

• The Demo of this game is not representative of the final product. I can not stress this enough. People are too judgmental these days & if given the chance to explore the game from the start, I have little doubt half of the people who complained about the Demo would not feel the same disappointment.

• The English voice dubbing, while not exactly terrible, can be annoying to some people. Thankfully, in the final US version Sakaguchi & Microsoft have allowed gamers to choose the option of having the original Japanese languages with English subtitles.

• The story, while not very deep, is only part of the story as a whole. Sakaguchi envisioned Blue Dragon as an episodic game if received well by the fans. Rumors are that a sequel is already underway. In addition to the game, there is also the Anime that is already airing in Japan based on the game. This anime will soon be airing in the US as well.

• The game play mechanics are not fast paced on purpose. Sakaguchi deliberately tried to make an old fashioned Japanese Role Playing Game with a few tweaks. By doing this he has alienated some people, while at the same time made others happy.

• Why do people play games in the first place? I personally play games to lose myself for a few hours, to have fun, & let the real world fade away. The world of Blue Dragon is a fun place to visit and explore even if at times things get repetitive. No one said you need to play this game in one marathon session. • If you don't like Japanese RPGs, then I guess don't play this game. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. If you do like them, then give this one a chance to grow on you. On that note, I've retired my Gears to EB (that day I preordered Halo 3), and so my 360 will rest until September 26th... then it'll probably overheat and die due to the fact it will be on non stop from September on (Sept = Halo 3, October = Guitar Hero 3, November = Rock Band/Call of Duty 4, Feb~April = GTA4... dear God my poor 360).

Epical - Why did you do that? Gears and Halo are very different imo and I will still play them both a ton. You really need to give Gears time to grow on you, etc, find friends, to make it fun. If you don't know anyone it would not be as fun.

And I really doubt GTA IV will be out by February. Plan on June at the earliest (imo).

I figured with the time I will be spending between Halo 3/GH3/RB/CoD4/FFXI, there's really no time for a game that's already over a year old and I haven't really gotten into the groove of anyways. =(

The story sucked, can't tell you how many times I had to /facepalm listening to that crap, and I only got through an hour or so of gameplay... The character models were extremely exaggerated and the gameplay was so-so mainly due to no keyboard/mouse support. The instances were very linear and expectable and the AI was kind of stupid and useless. I also didn't really enjoy the cover system in general and leaving out the ability to jump was painful. It's not like they couldn't add in an endurance meter and restrict jumping...

I was also going in expecting a better atmosphere, however the atmosphere of the game is just "lol hey kill the bad guys k?" Basically at no point while playing did I feel any emotion, the only thing I was thinking was "okay I wonder how many bad guys will pop out of the ground this time". With Doom3 or HL2 it was very different, for me at least.

You can say "You needed to give it more time", but that's exactly what a game shouldn't be. It shouldn't drag you through an hour or two of dull gameplay and then explode into a masterpiece, it should grab you from the start. In the end it's not as if a lot of other shooters don't suffer from some of these problems and more, it's just the combination of problems that made the game uninteresting to me.

From your post just now, it looks like you played the tutorial level on Easy or some shit then gave up..

And wtf, it's a shootan game, were you really expecting an FF-like storyline? Come on.. and don't you kill bad guys in every single shooter?

And this is one of the only games I actually felt comfortable playing on a console controller (shooter that is) over a keyboard/mouse... it took a good hour to get used to everything, but once you do it's very comfortable, at least for me.
