Just played the demo. Like you guys, I wasn't too interested in BioShock. After reading the reviews it got me little interested. Went and played it through and wow, I was hapilly surprised. I don't play survival/horror shootan games and I had a lot of fun. If this game is anything like the demo, it deserved its scores.. Just see for yourself. The gameplay is spot on. I set a zombie on fire? He runs for water. I use lightining while hes in water? He dies hella faster. I like the way the game explains everything to you too. You pick up these little recording devices (like saw movies) and you hear a little voice about the current room or place you're in. It's really neat and refreshing to be told a story this way. The game is really pretty too. The environments and it's detail is truly astounding. Everyone should try this game out.

Main thing I want to know is how open the game becomes. Ken Levine boasted that this has very open ended gameplay, and I mean more than just choosing which ways to kill enemies. He means open exploration. This is 1 dynamic the demo did not show off, rather the demo took you down a very set path. That is ok for the beginning of the game, but I would hope after the first couple of hours it opens up like he said it would.

Po, I read in a review that the story arc changes depending on the decisions you make. For instance, when you see one of the little girls, followed by the Big Daddy (the dude on the cover) the story will change if you kill him or let them go. This is probably where the open "endedness" comes from.

Well that is cool. But that is not what Levine (Game creator) was referring to. He literally said open ended exploration. While I do love games that walk me down a path with an awesome story and gameplay (RE4), it would make it even better if open ended exploration was part of it as well.

Yeah, it's only single player. It's not really like other console-shooters in that this game actually tells you a story. If Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and The Darkness had a 3-way lovechild, this would be it. I'm not sure if that was a spot-on representation because I've only played the demo, but BioShock was truly a breath of fresh air. It's really interesting, and I'm really curious as to where this game goes.

And I hear you Po. Half of me is wishing the game is like the demo (completely linear so I can just enjoy the story) yet the other half of me just wants to run around the city and explore.

I wouldn't say it's going to have an FF-like storyline, but it seems like they actually put some thought into this one rather than the usual FPS formula with their "bad guy, me shoot" thinking.

So far it seems to be a set path for the most part. I'm only on the 2nd area (7 total I think) though, but can only travel between the 1st and 2nd.

Same company anyway. And a lot of the reviewers in 1 place work on the other as well (if that makes sense).

And the way this is shaping up, I think the story line will be just as good as a solid RPG title. There is all kinds of craziness going on story line wise: Why did this Utopia fail? did Ryan purposely want to make it fail to take advantage of something? What affect will the Little Sisters have on the story? What affect will using the plasmids have on the story? What happened to all the people, why did they go crazy? etc etc etc

This is going to be a very engrossing story I think.

It's not out till next Tuesday btw.

And the 1up reviewer I heard on a podcast said the absolute fastest you can get through the game is 12-14 hours. But if you want to do everything and really get your value out of it, 20 hours easy.

At this point I don't think they have a choice to give it anything but a 9+.

I've read the game is about 20 hours long. I'm sure one could beat it in 7 if you rush through everything. And I have to take short breaks, I don't wanna RROD my 360!

There's a lot of ways to customize yourself.

Plasmids, like spells.
Physical Tonics, defensive job traits
Combat tonics, offensive job traits
Engineering Tonics, how you interact with machines

And one of the many weapons you can equip.

At this point I don't think they have a choice to give it anything but a 9+.

So is it worth buying? Like, is there any replay value at all, or is the gameplay at least more than 10-15 hours? Otherwise i'd say it's just a good (well, great lol) rental.

I think this will be an awesome PS3 game this fall, I definitely am looking forward to it, and hopefully a demo soon.

Exo - I feel there will be tons of replay value, and great single player games are always good to have in your library. Part of the replay value to me seems to be different ways of dealing with Little Sisters. Whether you "harvest" them or let them live. The way it sounds those decisions seem to have a huge affect on both gameplay and story.

I think this would be a definite buy in the same way that Metroid Prime or OOT is.
