No, but from what everyone say's they are getting rid of that emotion engine thing, which is apparently better. I still don't know much about that or it's effect on the ps3 at all. Maybe that'll be may daily research while at work.

The Emotion Engine simply means you have the core PS2 inside the PS3, making backwards compatibility seamless. The newer models remove the emotion engine (to cut costs) and instead rely on emulation, which is easily done since the PS3 is leaps and bounds more powerful than the PS2. The only problem with emulation is that it doesn't automatically translate to full backwards compatibility, and Sony has to release patches to support more games. The plus side is that the PS3 now has upscaling on older games, so they're going to look much prettier (not sure if upscaling was specific to emulation or not).

To put it in perspective, the Xbox360 uses emulation to play the original Xbox games, although that was a no brainer for them because the original Xbox only had like 5 must-own games, 2 of which were named Halo. System wise, the difference between the 80gig and 60gig model is negligible, while the price difference, 100 dollars, is pretty important. I'm personally tempted to grab one before they're gone at $499, but I can't shake the feeling that if I just wait until MGS4 comes around in 4-6 months, I might be looking at a $450 or even $400 unit.

Metroid next week, and I'm starting to get really excited. Don't get me wrong, I like how the older Metroids were exploration games with a heavy emphasis on back tracking, but Metroid Prime 3: Corruption seems to be more in the vein of Halo than before, with voice-acting, a cinematic story, etc. Just finished reading a preview on IGN, which called the game the new flagship for graphics and control on the Wii, which sounds pretty promising.

Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and wait til next year when i'm making a bit more money.

As for metroid, I can't wait. I'm expecting this to be probably the best game ever made (as far as i'm concerned). All of the video's about gameplay, the controls and just the story of the game in general all seem fantastic. I just found a preowned copy of MP2 and am trying to get through that before the 28th.

Question on that, I just read online that the wii is compatible for gamecube hardware, I haven't tried but, you can put gamecube discs into the wii?

Yeah, just plop it in like you would a regular disc. Up top has 2 little 'flaps'(bad word, but best I can describe) that flip open to reveal GC Controller ports and memory card ports

Yeah I use the gamecube controller for most of my VC games, I just never wanted to risk jamming a disc in if i wasn't sure it'd work, that's sweet though

my GOD madden 07 on 360 is a completely different game than on ps2...

MP3:C is going to be pretty epic. I've been doing my best to do as little reading about it as possible in the past few weeks since i dont want to ruin anything for myself. initially I dont know what to think about them changing the "scenery" from the isolated on a planet in older metroid games, to what seems to be flying around to different locations via missions in this one. but then again I also had my doubts with the tweaking in play style in RE4...but after like 10 minutes it didn't matter cause its just too much fun.

BTW ign has something listed for a Kid Icarus game for Wii? if they roughly based it off of SMG from a style standpoint of not levels, but tiered sections of a big big world, that would be pretty darn cool!

Funny enough, seconds ago I got the "Disc read error" screen playing Bioshock, saying the disc needed to be cleaned. There isn't a scratch on the disc anywhere, and I'm going to be PISSED if the 360 breaks again after a month of use (and even then not much until yesterday with Bioshock).

I get that every so often, since nearly week one (got my 360 over a year ago now, easily.) I get that one randomly, and the other one that tells you "to play this disc please insert it into an Xbox 360 Console" Umm... ok.

I know that mine is going to crap out one day, it is just inevitable at this point i believe. I have only ever once seen the red rings, and i am 99% sure that was due to my idiocy in using the Intercooler (first version.) I unplugged that, no red lights, plug it back in, red lights.

Anyone buying those 80's over the 60? Lol it's such a bad deal compared to the 60 imo at this point.

The biggest drawback is the emulation backwards compat, and then they rip you off for 20 gigs and a mediocre game for a hundred bucks? I see it as less of a system because it doesn't have the PS2 guts.

I grabbed my 60 gig about a month ago now. "Price Cut", Emotion Engine, sure why not.

Holy shit, figured the Wii sales would have slowed done since they've become easier to find. Guess fucking not.

And lol at the PS3, it's toast (in the US). With the price drop, RROD news spreading like fire, rumors of 360 price drop and they still lost. Expected it to edge out the 360 this month since it was like top seller on Amazon for a while.
