What would be the downside of this for the consumer? Say a ~500 dollar system that plays ALL games that comes out with the best graphics, online capability and 1st party titles. I don't see a downside. It is kind of silly to talk about since it would never happen, but still it would be a great thing to see happen.
The downside is if there are no competitors then they could get away with charging much more than 500 dollars for this system, and charging much more than $60 per game. There are no competitors to drive the price down, and no competitors to push one another to make better games and better hardware.
How awesome of a machine do you think they would make if they didn't need to top anyone else?
