40GB PS3 officially announced priced at €399 so will probably be 400 in the US. Has ZERO backwards compatibility though. Should be an interesting holiday season.

The 80 gig PS3 has the PS2 GPU still in it, they just took out the PS2 CPU out when the 80 gig was introduced. The PS2 CPU was called the emotion engine, so now they taken out the PS2 GPU. Like I said before it should still have PS1 compatibility because PS1 games were done through 100% software emulation. I think its a somewhat silly move by Sony to remove PS2 compatibility but it did bring the price of the PS3 to a great level so lets see if it will help them out.

So now they just release another 40gig model with wireless, but no backward compatibilies(is ok thought). Seem like just a upgrade and downgrade version of 20gig model

Lower price models are simply used to enhance the value of the higher priced one. First thing, everyone will talk about price drop, and talk about ps3 like it was 400$, then people won't buy the cheap version, because they are missing too much.

Thats the thing the 40 gig PS3 isn't really have anything that would deter someone from purchasing it if they want to play PS3 games. It can play PS3 games, has the standard hardrive, it has the wifi, and the free online gaming. Sony figures with over 110 million PS2 sold if you want to play PS2 games just keep your PS2. Hell I went to gamestop yesterday and the trade in value for it was $30, PS2 aren't even worth trading in :D.

Only PS3 games. That would deter a lot of people. PS3 alone isn't exactly rolling in the titles, having PS2 and PS1 support helped a lot.

Only fanboys say the PS3 isn't rolling in titles, I own maybe 6-7 PS3 games plus a crap load of PSN games. But once again it all depends on who you ask whether the PS3 has good games. Again I say it can play PS1 games >.>
