How did M$ target casuals with the 360 while Sony targeted the hardcore with the PS3? They both did the same thing, the only thing the 360 has over the PS3 right now is the fact that it has been out for a year prior to sony's PS3 launch... They both targeted the same group of people, Microsoft just has a year advantage and so they have more games out for both the casuals and the hardcore (and ignore the fact that it's easier to develop for).. that caused many games to get ported over to the PS3 FROM the 360 when sony's console was released last year, hence becoming the inferior product.
Current PS3 bashing are only because of Sony's continuous efforts to publically make the PS3 seem like the better choice when they know that's not what the general public thinks... it only makes them look bad, it makes their console look bad, and in turn it also makes their game arsenal seem weak even though they have a decent lineup planned.
360 Arcade. Don't know how it'll work out though, much better then the Core I imagine.Originally Posted by Exoduso

Without a true source, reliable mind you, most of what anyone is saying is not fact, but just there look on it
Wii tries to cater to all geres/styles (casual, middle, hardcore, hell even professional), so does the PS3/360, but somehow people always will stereotype the product
Wii = too casual/not many great game, lack of true 3rd party support
PS3 = expensive, not many great games, 3rd party support = risky
360 = hardware failures, competition oriented (money driven), decent games
That is what I have sern throughout the whole thread
Some of that is true, but alot of it is mixed in with vague opinions either trying to help/hurt the product
PS3 is targeting Hardcore with its price, its capabilities, and its technology. It also has more dark games like Resistance, Lair, MGS4. They may not all be good games, but they have more dark games.Originally Posted by Exoduso

Fuck, recently Microsoft has been marketing 360 as a family entertainment device, complete with cartoons on the Marketplace. Shit, the name 360 means they're targeting all degrees of the market, if I recall right.
They didn't target the same demographic. The same demographic just happened to buy them.
No, its more or less fact.Originally Posted by GraveRobberX
You can look at the current list of Wii Library, a grand majority of it is Licenced games from Disney movies/cartoons that suck shit. Right now it is true that it has a lack of 3rd party support. It will probably be fixed with the rate it is selling, but it is true now none the less.
PS3 is expensive when you put it vs the other consoles. They're working to combat it, but it is still fucking expensive. Not many great games is still true. This is also true for all consoles, however. 3rd Party Support is risky, yes. The development cost vs the installed base means you need to sell a lot of copies to make a profit, and theres a good chance you might not. Still going on truths here.
360 does have a lot of hardware failures. The fact that they extended the warranty should prove this true. Competition oriented is true, but its also true on other consoles. Decent games is true, but its also true on other consoles.
Nothing you have said is bias'd or vague opinions. Its all true.
I just don't see how it works for microsoft economically, since they must be repairing insane amounts of their 360s daily... all that shipping and all that production cost to put new chips in there to combat their hardware failures, was it actually worth beating their competition to the store shelves a year early? Because yes, Sony loses money on every single console they sell but at least they don't break (or at least, not as easily as the 360).. M$ must be losing even more money with all the returns/repairs.
Its not about the money, its about the marketshare for Microsoft. They gladly lost money on the Xbox, they are gladly bleeding money on the 360, and I'm sure they'll do the same for whatever system comes next, because eventually, if they get enough of a marketshare, they'll start to actually profit and force competition out of business.Originally Posted by Exoduso

don't even attempt to say to say Halo is for the Hardcore.
Just don't.
Thats akin to saying Super Smash Brothers Melee is for the hardcore because of the vast tournament scene around it.
Every game has something about them that seperates the Hardcore from the casual. However, that doesn't mean that Polly Polly Princess is for the hardcore just because it has super awesome tough mode.
You're right.Originally Posted by aurik
However, it doesn't make my statement any less true, either.
So Halo is casual, but Resistance is hardcore?
Does not compute.
FYI: 90% if my college friends don't play Halo online. They play drunk/high with friends and that's it.Originally Posted by Mysterio

Microsoft wouldn't have sold half of that amount before Halo 3 came out.
Halo wouldn't have sold 3.3 million first week if 12 million 360's weren't in people's homes.
Conclusion: Halo and the 360 wouldn't be the the success it is now without the year head start that they had.
Never said Resistance was hardcore.Originally Posted by Exoduso
I just said it had darker themes, and that it was targeted towards more mature audiences.
Just they sold to the same demographic.

FYI, it is a real term:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shovelware
Shovelware is a derogatory computer jargon term that refers to software noted more for the quantity of what is included than for the quality or usefulness. The metaphor implies that the creators chose the content material indiscriminately, as if with a shovel, rather than hand-picking quality works.
Rebuttal: Halo as a franchise is done without Bungie, so lets cast that off into a nice little island in the tropics for a bit. To the 360: How do you define a success when you gain a 1.2billion loss?Originally Posted by Deejay

Was trying to project that after every 15-20 pages this thread cycles back to the stereotypes, then opinions get mashed along with them, and as result we will continue this debate and after 10-15 more pages it will cycle up again
Mind you, no new earth-shattering news has come out of the gaming industry, so people are just ancy or bored, but this thread needs some gaming news to refocus this thread
