“Somebody asked me what I thought next generation meant and what about the PlayStation 3 was next generation. The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement,” Wright told Guardian Unlimited.

Great for watching movies, but not so great for games. Getting data off the blue ray drive takes about twice as long as it does to get the same data off the 360's DVD drive. That translates into longer load times, or god forbid if your streaming from disk, tighter constraints on the amount of data you can stream.

Ignore the apparent bias from me here. I just managed to find this info in a small timeframe.[/quote:1mmbjj50]

Yeah.............first of all Sims is if anything a casual game isn't it? it's like one step up from playing with doll houses and tea parties, I don't mean that as a insult but it is isn't it? it pretty much attempts to catch the casual pc gamer market. So I don't see how two forces that are behind casual gaming won't agree with each other.

I also really don't see how you can even compare a Wii vs a xbox360 vs a ps3, especially by saying the Wii is the ultimate next gen gaming machine. It's like comparing the experience of watching tv shows in your home to the experience of going to a movie theatre.

There's tons of tv shows but they're all mostly 30 min, some are 1 hour long and you basically watch them whenever you want for doses of entertainment at a time. Most of the time when you watch tv shows its because you want to stay home, bored or need something in the background and TV shows fill that sense easily or at certain times theres this one or two shows that you just have to watch. It also comes with a remote!....heh....yeah ok that sucked.

Movies are completely different, they are made at huge budgets, last for hours to basically immerse the audience within the storylines by using huge screens, visual effects and surround sound. They come at a much lesser quantity then tv shows and you pay a moderate sum to get in but more or less its a luxury many wish to experience.

I hate the sims, and think the guy is a crazy pedo rapist, but I have to agree with what he's said about the consoles.

As for hyping ps3 games, that is probably one of Sony's most idiotic moves. They never advertise. Seriously people don't know what product you have out there unless you frickin advertise. The only commercials I've seen are the Heavenly Sword one which played like 2-3 times ever, and the most recent one was the Simpsons game commercial which I was seriously surprised to see the playstation3 logo for.

I'm surprised your store hasn't sold a copy, I heard of tons of stores which have been selling out on ratchet & clank and also Eye of judgment.

Thing is, as of now, there are the same amount of "Movie" Games for each console. All recent games for PS3/360 have had shit length, making them just "TV" games as you say. They may have better graphics, but no real immersive storyline nor length.

Well Sony clearly funded the Simpsons commercial which is why they displayed the Sony logo.

And I agree Sony really drops the ball in marketing the PS3. What they need to do also is market it as a blu ray player as it is the cheapest blu ray player on the market, and a lot of people forget it is one.

No, thats what they've been doing, They have been marketing it as a blu-ray player.
I don't have it with me, so cue the PS3 ad that was "SONY BLU-RAY PLAYER, IT ALSO PLAYS GAMES"
They've marketed it as a computer with blu-ray capabilities since the start.

    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

There was a recent poll that the majority of PS3 owners do not know their PS3 was also a Blu Ray player. I don't remember where I saw it, but I remember I did. And they are not marketing it enough. They can easily sell this system outside of gaming fans to rich people who just want a blu ray player, and they are not capitalizing on that.

A 1 page ad in a gaming magazine is not the point.

In other Sony news, Happy 7th Birthday to the PS2 today, and Happy 120 million units sold, with 1 billion in software sold.

    Here is the link: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/ps2-t ... years-old/

The top 10 list of top sellers was surprising in certain areas too.

What do you mean? the only games that I know that have short lengths are Heavenly Sword, Bioshock and rumored COD 4 to be short. Heavenly Sword was short but it certainly was immersive, the voice acting, the storyline were all awesome. Bioshock, I haven't played it but based on the reviews it is probably very immersive as well. COD4 if it is only a 6 hour play through it has a multiplayer which makes up for that.

EDIT: I posted this link a page ago but I figured it should be posted again. http://www.srgnet.com/pdf/Holiday%20Wis ... 0_2007.pdf
People do want PS3s but they can't justify buying it because Sony doesn't advertise to tell them why they should buy it. I know some of you think uncharted doesn't seem that great but to many it looks like a must buy which Sony has yet to advertise. Ratchet and Clank no advertisements either, same as Haze or the Socom game which I believe is a PSN download game but still Socom is a huge title it should be advertised.

    Bioshock
    Halo 3
    Heavenly Sword
    COD4
Ratchet and Clank(Depends on if you call 10-12 hours short or not.)

    What games have been long?

Isn't he a Harmonix Dev? Guess that foreshadows the better version of Rock Band.

That comment sounds funny. So people want a PS3 but unsure why they would want one? That mean Sony's doing a good job of advertising but people logically can't rationalize the purchase. Sony's known for hyping things, their advertising on the PS basically killed the Dreamcast and would have the 360 if not the price tag. I don't think it's the lack of advertising, it's the product and price at the moment and the lack of games to advertise until recently with R&C.

There's been a bit of advertising, R&C was on gamespot's background for a few days although their low score kind of counter acts that. Heavenly Sword was on Heroes as well which should have been big. Haven't seen much on Lair, probably a good thing.

Halo 3 had multiplayer, don't know how long the single player was.
Ratchet & Clank, 10-12 hours ...isn't that pretty long?

Your also not factoring in the replay values, in every ps3, xbox 360 game every level is completely different, the environment is completely different, the sounds, etc. I'm not talking about just drawing a few boxes into the same screen and mixing up where some guns are placed where after you play through the game once you would rather not do it again, but levels that just make you wish you could rewind and just play through that level again.

When I buy a product I'd rather go for reliability, quality etc over if something is a brand name. However the majority of the people in the world are brand loyalists. If they buy a brand and it works for them, it meets their needs in most cases if conditions are right they will pick that brand over any other competition when the next purchase comes along.

Same with this, the ps2 dominated last gen, there is no way that the millions of people are just going to ignore the ps3. They need the right conditions, being games and price.

Man I gotta stop typing and go finish my essay.....

Heavenly Sword doesn't have Replay value.
Halo 3's replay value is multi-player. Single Player was 7 hours. 10-12 hours is not long. Its average at best, athough it may seem long compared to the shit length games you've been getting.
Bioshock has no replay value either, really.

    This is basically next gen

    [ ]Immersive
    [ ]Long Storyline
    [ ]Graphics.

    Pick 2.

Not really since this gen is brand new, it takes lots of time and a big budget to meet all three criteria above but as developers get use to the current consoles, at least for the xbox and ps3, all three criteria will be met and without exception.

Only thing that people should really be complaining about for this gen is the price of the games....$60 for a new game ewwww

Well I'm sure the Wii can have a long storyline, aren't they making some rpgs on it? but like the 360 they will most likely have to sell on multiple discs. Immersive yeah sure. Graphics however unless a completely new graphics card is made for the Wii its always just going to look....well how it is right now. I never looked what graphics card the Wii used so hell I might be wrong but no matter what it certainly graphics wise would never come near what a xbox or a ps3 can handle.

Yeah, the Wii won't hit PS3/360 levels. This is known. This isn't to say the games won't look great. But recently, most graphical games for the 360/PS3 have been flops. Just because your game is pretty doesn't mean it will be good. Hell, this is the same exact arguement last gen. People saying the Xbox/GC was superior to PS2 because of their graphical capabilities.

    Pick 2.
This doesn't make sense man, because R&C and Bioshock are ACTION GAMES tjere not suppose to be RPG long . R&C is 10-15 hours long with lots of replay value. Hell think back to PS2 days for a second, how long was DMC1 :Drum roll: 12-15 hours long. Think back to the SNES days how long was Contra 3 alien wars? Let see 2 hours unless it was on hard then you just got raped and it was alot longer . You have to take into account the genre of game when you decide what a respectable length is.

    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

As I said before the Wii is in a entirely different market then the 360/ps3, the difference in graphics between them are massive not comparable to the barely noticeable ps2/xbox/GC difference. The Wii's sole design is for mini games, for casual gamers, its sole attention getter is the controller, there may be in the future long games for the Wii but overall attention will be focused mainly on the minigames, Wii sports and whatever.

What great graphics games are flops anyway? Lair? it was only because the controls were fucked up, if they had allowed use of analog sticks this game would be awesome.

From an effort-per-pixel standpoint, Xbox1 and GC games looked way better than PS2 games. The only reason PS2 games looked so good was because it was primary platform for most development studios; almost no effort was made to improve the graphics over what limited amount of triangles the PS2 could push.
