That's why you aren't a games journalist... I have heard the controls are easy and make no stupid, unnecessary uses of the Wiimote.

Any reviews out for Mario and Sonic Olympics? If you can post scores or remarks here, please do so, since I'm at work and all video game related websites are blocked.
No reviews yet.
the controls are horrible. moreso the camera angles combined with the controls. yea theres no motion stuff and if thats what makes it get a good control rating thats retarded. there was plenty of times trying to jump on a 3d planet that you seriously have trouble landing where you want to.
have you even played it yet?
ive played it for a few hours. as always, they overrate the games that get the big hype. just look at the 10's for halo 3.
Good point about overhyped games being overrated, but I am thinking this game does a lot more than Halo.
I'll just wait and see next week.

If you own a PS3 you really need to own R&C Future. I just finished this game and it is unbelievably fun. Once you finish too it unlocks a new challenge mode which is essentially new game + with tons of new things to get as well.
oh i agree i'd definitely take it over halo, but halo was only like a 7 or so realistically, it was good, but other than the multiplayer, definitely not great.
the game has some really fun aspects to it, but the camera/controls is what made me decide that i don't want to pick it up.
as for ratchet, i'm looking to pick that up shortly, from what i played on the demo it was loads of fun, very gorgeous to look at, and just general all around fun :D
well the real problum with game scoring is the fact that most 10 point review systems use 7-10 exclusively and most five point systems only use 3.5-5, I know people take it really badly when their game gets a "5" but reviews need to enforce that as the average, so that any game that is decent isn't getting 9.2-9.9Originally Posted by izembo

If Super Mario is an 8, what do you give Ratchet and Clank? What would you give Warhawk?
I agree the 8 was lol'ish. Some reviewers are giving Silent Hill Origins an 8, which is a fine game, but doesn't deserve a similar review to Mario.
Yes that is the thing about Ratchet is that it is just old school fun. Some people forget that fun is why we play video games, not to be frustrated, and this really brings back that feeling in a big way.

so overall probably a 6.
until you've played mario don't buy into all the hype. i have yet to see a customer walk away from the demo going "oh my god this is the best mario game ever". not a single customer. it's an entertaining mario game, it's far from the best.
I see the point you're trying to make Izembo, but reviewers aren't saying "hey this game was fun it gets a 10", they're saying "Hey this game is legendary, and it deserves a 10." Now when you say Ratchet and Clank (which is fun in it's own right, too) deserves the same score, you make yourself sound really bias.
1.: Because you're not saying Mario Galaxy deserved an 8 because it's decent, but because it's not "as fun" as Mario 64. You're already looking at the cup half empty.
2.: You're saying that Ratchet and Clank controls better and is a lot more fun without any sort of reasoning as to why/how. I'm not saying the game (R&C) isn't great because i'm sure it is, but the majority of reviewers out there completely disagree with your stances.
I know you're only 1 person and i'm not trying to overanalyze things, I'm just in the middle of studying for a math exam and I needed to clear my head a little lol.
i'm being completely serious here though when i say that i have not seen a single person being hyped about this game. the only hype i ever see is online for it.
the game isn't legendary. it isn't a 10. it's just another mario game on the new system, with odd controls and shitty camera angles. if it wasn't for the camera angles i think it would be a much better game. the story is pretty good, the concepts involved are all pretty good. actually no, they are really good. but like i said, the controls and cameras were just that bad that it seriously detracted from the way the game made me feel about it. the game is TOO 3d for it's own good.
I disagree , except with the part where you said you agree with me :DOriginally Posted by Charismatic
First of all, it's rarely common, and always hilarious when it does happen. There is no harm done to the game. Not that it's a valid argument to justify the presence of glitches, people are making a bigger deal out of it than it actually is (unless it happen every other minutes)
Like I said previously, the more complex is your engine, the more likely something like this is going to happen. It's almost impossible to avoid every glitches when it come to complex physics and performance optimization. While this thing look completely wrong, it's easy to imagine 2 very realistics physics algorithm entering in conflict and creating something like this. The physics in this game look awesome based on the video I watched, there is no way they fix everything.
I just can't agree with that...(and lol at the Eurogamer 10, second 10 in the history of the magazine, first was some DS game).Originally Posted by izembo
I didn't flip out about the game until I played it, and I can't believe you're saying the controls are bad. Mario did exactly what I wanted/motioned him to do onscreen with no problems. If I couldn't spin something (like the rabbits who ran away) I had the star pieces to shoot. Let me tell you, I don't play or enjoy many shooters, so if I could nail those rabbits like I did...yea. The game went so smoothly, I could even run upside down on the first planet chasing rabbits and shooting them without misstep, in mere moments of play, no hamfisting "practice". And no matter where I went, (I played a little bit past the Queen Bee on my go-through) the camera NEVER got in the way or hid Mario, not once. Even when behind a wall or something, Mario's silouette let me know exactly where he was. I'm actually curious if you could explain these lack of control instances, because after playing the full version, I found nothing at all like what you describe. I haven't seen/heard a single control complaint (other than swimming, which I have no experience with, didn't play that far), in-store or online, until now. I do see/hear a lot about how easy the game is to pick up and play though...
But that's what makes opinions so great.
Actually now that you mention it, if you've put a lot of time into any Rare FPS, You'll have found a lot of parts like this (especially lolPD:Z)Originally Posted by Kaylia
On the Mario Note, I just got back from Pre-ordering it because I decided it was time to get that out of the way. I played the demo, I really enjoyed myself, but I can totally see where Izumbo is coming from, it's a lot of fun but it would be more fun if the 3Dness was not so disorenting. By the end of the first level ( I played till I got the first grand star) I had gotten the hang of it, but it still kinda leaves you longing for a flat board. That being said, I certianly think I'm going to love it, I had a tottal blast playing it.
my issue was i had a lot of times when running on planets that the camera wouldnt be caught up to me and when i went to jump on a pipe or in a hole or onto something, i would go over it/to the side/fall short as the camera adjusted itself on me. as i said, my biggest issue is the game is too 3d.
The idea of "too 3d" blows my mind.
if you played it you'd understand what im talking about. i'd much rather have a flat environment instead of a circular planet world.
I dunno, I'll just have to agree to disagree. It just never was an issue (I did lose my Bee suit in the water a few times, but I blamed that on my newbness). The planets change a lot from what I hear, I think there are "flat" stages and various other things the more you play (and some "super hard" extra stages). Not to make fun of you, but I remember seeing a lot of people complain about "another Mario game, same old blah blah blah" and now I see you here wanting the same old thing now that they did change it, lol. Anyway, I can't wait to see the rest myself! One week away...
i prefer tried and true rather than changed games. i wouldnt have complained if they kept it the same.
