    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

I'm not going to argue with you Maxx, that's how I feel about it. Once you start using your 360 more you'll see that too. Or you won't, either way it doesn't bother me I do what's good for me not what people think I should be doing/should by buying/should be playing, etc.

I'm sure zack and wiki is a good game, but it's not a mainstream title that a lot of people will buy (or is it? I don't follow sales..) Mario and Metroid are a slash because they came out at around the same time, and Zelda has been out since launch. I didn't mean anything by it.

With all that being said, I can't wait for SSBB.

I'm not saying what you should do, I'm just trying to understand you

Zack and Wiki may not be popular, but it's great... if popularity was the main factor than Wii Play > all and we KNOW that isn't the case lol

And as far as the slashes, within 8 days of same period that is 'approximately the same time' for Mario and Metroid, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo III, COD4, and the Orange Box all came out.

I finished the Orange Box (no TF2 yet, haven't bothered set up online atm) and haven't changed my opinion of the Wii games one bit. Of course we have preferences but that doesn't mean that in a discussion we shouldn't speak fairly.

    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

And that's why I won't argue it because you do seem t o get more out of your Wii than I get out of mine.. Then again I just couldn't get into Metroid even though I honestly tried, and Mario doesn't really interest me either (I get like 5 stars a day, but that's about it... I can't sit and play it for hours.)

Honestly Zelda is the only 1st party series I haven't missed a single game from... I purchased Wind Waker a while back and played it on the Wii, so I caught up with all of them. The others don't seem to interest me as much (never owned a GCN either.)

You're totally right on the popularity thing and touche for that, Wii Play was fucking horrible lol... I'll get around to playing Zack and Wiki, I'm trying to finish up Mass Effect atm (which really is a great game, I suggest you play it before any other 360 games.)

All I have is Orange Box and Mass Effect atm anyways lol (aside from M:UA pack-in; I didn't see Forza in the box, strangely.) I absolutely adore Bioware, Baldur's Gate II and KOTOR are two of my favorite RPGs of all time and Mass Effect was a system seller for me.

The Virtual Console is great, and BRPs comparison is nonsense, because Microsoft sure as hell isn't letting you download Live Arcade and Xbox 1 games for free.
Right now, I can download dozens and dozens demos and trials for free. Some of them may require Gold membership admittedly if that counts as a cost. The closest thing I can do for the Wii is voting on a poll or finding out the weather.

I'm not holding my breath for WiiWare Channel.

Wii is basically the Gamecube all over again in my opinion, but this time it's selling like hotcakes because Nintendo has sold-out. Let the tri-monthly waiting periods begin!

lol dude, open the Marvel box (or flip it over, actually.... the forza cover is on there >.>) both cds are in the actual thing.

And yeah you'll definitely enjoy Mass Effect... make your own character and play a Vanguard, best job ever. (the default char is a soldier and looks like total shit.)

I was going to be an Adept, what do the Hybrid classes sacrifice to gain the hybridness?

I liked Vanguard better than Adept merely for the fact that Vanguard can upgrade Shotguns... Lift + Shotguns = win, even on Insanity (2nd unlocked difficulty and the highest, gotta beat the game once on any of the main 3 to unlock Hardcore, then beat Hardcore to unlock Insanity.)

I played as a Soldier already, it's fun but also kind of boring because they have absolutely no abilities other than regular raising of dead allies, etc. Also, Adepts will get owned pretty fast if you're not careful, Vanguard has some sort of protection at least. (actually I think Adepts also have the Barrier ability, but it's not always that great.)

Vanguard is kind of a kamikaze style class, but very effective if you know what you're doing. My suggestion is playing on Casual your first playthrough and get accustomed to everything (it will take a couple of hours to get used to everything, the system is pretty complicated but really effective once you get used to the battles and the abilities/how to make your allies use abilities effectively.)

You can also map (kind of a macro) 1 ability which will be used every time it's ready by simply pressing the right bumper (without having to open the menu which stops gameplay -- you do that by holding the bumper... I put Lift there, so every time Lift is ready and I press the button and it doesn't interrupt the flow of the battle, which is pretty cool.

Hell if you really want to get accustomed fast just play Soldier, you'll get used to all the basic stuff. Use allies like Garrus and Wrex or Tali to have allies with all the hacking tools necessary to open locked items etc. (loot) and having all the abilities that the soldier class doesn't have, and after you beat it choose a class with those abilities and see how you fair.

I know you bashed the achievements and stuff a while ago, but if you actually go for them you'll get a heck of a lot more out of your game (and it's actually fun collecting them once you get into it... you don't even have to go out of your way, they're just kind of there and you have to play through the game with all the characters and do all possible side quests with them tto get their achievements (6 allies total and you can only get 2 per playthrough so you gotta play the game at least 3 times for those alone, but you can do the difficulty achievements, etc. at the same time..)

    tl;dr go play it.

I have to agree with Exo on MP3. I got it for Christmas and I'm having a hard time getting into it.

Played it a long time ago on the 360, the rain looked pretty cool (like, Gears of War cool) but the gameplay is pretty bad.

I could play this game 10 more times through, including side quests, if I had to) to complete everything on all the various difficulties with all the various characters, netting you about 100 hours of gameplay total... it's damn worth the money.

What games does the Wii have beside Zelda (which you don't play after you beat) and Mario/Metroid that last more than 10 hours? I'm not trying to bash the system since I have it too, i'm just saying it doesn't really offer anything exciting (zack and wiki or w/e the hell it's called doesn't count)... hopefully SSBB redeems it.
I said 3/4 of those games. Obviously, I was excluding guitar hero and rock band..but either way, most players wont play long enough to beat most songs on expert. My point is that most games (on any consoles) have between 10-30 hours of content. Anything else after is for completionist fanatic and people who don't mind playing the same game 5 times in a row to grab every little thing. Achievement in your case enhance gameplay experience a lot, because you clearly like to collect all of them, but it's not true for everyone. Most gamers will get as much from a good Wii games than a good xbox games because length of the game is similar.

Xbox has a bigger library of "good" games at the moment, no one is arguing about that. Hell, I would get a xbox before a Wii right now, but both would end up rotting soon after I beat the 5-10 "good games".

    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

Seeing how only 3 of the ones I listed are out, that's what I assumed you meant, sorry.

But that would apply to all the consoles... and that's why I like games like GH3 and RB that are good for boring transition periods where no good games come out. And most people getting gh/rb attempt to achieve getting to expert and 5 staring those songs, that's the whole point of the game. Sure it takes a long time and a lot of practice, but people get there eventually.

I started with GH2 on the 360 on medium, moved to hard and got pissed that it was too hard for me. Picked up GH3 and started on hard, and now i'm playing on expert and doing pretty well, and I know a lot of people who like getting better at the game (and rock band especially since it's even more of a party game) because it's actually fun.

Kinda assumed NG and DMC would be short, because previous one were, but who knows. They are going to be great game most likely, but like I said before, only a minority of players will get everything out of those those. Most stop after beating it once or twice.
I don't want to get into the whole GH/RB thing, because it's another world completely . Both games are/will be on every consoles, pc included, and gameplay can't be compared to other "adventure/action/rpg" games. It's usually a hit or miss, but if you get addicted, chance is you will spend a lot of time on it.

When I was talking about being completionist, I was mostly talking about stuff like getting every achievement in Mass effect. I doubt 1% of the gamer does that, probably less. Would be interesting to get real stats to see how many give up midway, finish the game once, twice...etc.

You'd be surprised, especially Mass Effect... on various forums I went to to ask questions about certain side quests etc., people are on their 7th and 8th playthroughs. The 1-2 playthrough stigma you put on 360 games isn't really justified. Shooters are the only type that I can't see myself playing more than once or twice.

I would be surprised if there is over 1% who complete every achievement..indeed :D Unless there is a multiplayers (GoH, Halo3..etc), most stop after beating the game once or twice.

Apply to you pretty well if you think people who post on a related forum represent a non biased sample. The minority you find on those forum are generally the only one who finish those game completely, because everyone else has no interest and moved to something else. Mass Effect sold over 1m copy, but you will only find an handful of people on forum who beat the game 7-8 times. Sure, not everyone who did that posted on forum, but it generally give you a good idea of the amount of hardcore completionist.

    Xbox Ultimate? Huh?

    http://stuff.tv/News/BIG-IN-2008-Xbox-Ultimate/

I call bullshit but seeing how they shoved the Elite down our throats I wouldn't be too surprised if it ended up being real.

Built in Wifi and HD-DVD would make it cost at least 500 bucks, and seeing how I already have a bluray player via the PS3 I doubt i'll care.

Thats great, but your comparison is still nonsense.

The Virtual Console is comparable to the Xbox Arcade/Original Xbox service, both of which offer full, older games for download at a cost. The Virtual Console is not a channel for demos, and presumably, if they are ever added to the Wii, they'll arrive on a different channel. In a direct comparison of features between the Xbox Arcade and Virtual Console, they're about equal, although I tend to enjoy the Nintendo catalog more.

If you want to complain that the Wii lacks a demo/trailer service, thats fine, but it has nothing to do specifically with the Virtual Console. Even with the 360, in the overarching marketplace, the "Xbox Arcade / Original Xbox games" is on a separate tab (channel) than the demos, a different service being offered. Dismissing the Virtual Console as "paying for roms" and ignoring that the 360 has the same system is nonsense. I'd complain about what the Wii lacks in comparison to the 360 than criticizing what they both have. The Virtual Console is not the problem.
