There is no format war. In a recent USAToday poll and GameFaQs did a poll on it yesterday as well; 80% of Americans (plus others) are not interested in the new formats at this time. HDDVD players are outselling Bluray players, but Bluray is ahead in sales because of PS3.

As ive always said, it wont matter who wins because there will be dual players, and I wouldnt be surprized if they both lost because there will be a new format in a year or so.

This doesn't make sense at all, there is a format war. Only about 25% of americans own a HDTV so thats why the poll has 80% of american's not wanting a new HD format. But we all know HDTVs prices are dropping fast and the number of american's that own an HDTV will increase fast. HD is coming if you haven't noticed all the cable companies have started adveristing HD cable and TV stations are starting to broadcast in HD.

Another thing I don't understand is the dual player logic, its very true that standalone HDDVD players are outselling standalone Blue-ray due to the price difference but what makes you think people are going to buy a $1300 dual format player when people aren't buying a $1000 blue-ray with more advertisement. Dual players only stand a chance as long as there to competeing formats and right now it seems like HDDVD is going to go away so dual player wont exsist. Another thing is you yourself said there is no difference visually between HDDVD and Blueray so again whats the point of the dual player. But soon blue-ray players will probably outsell HDDVD standalone once Sony releases the $599 standalone. And what new format is coming out that we stop blue-ray because HVD cost to much.

Bluray has a better shot of surviving this than HD-DVD.

Was N64 the 3rd console from Nintendo?

Likewise, was the Dreamcast the 3rd for Sega? (Unless someone tells me they took the Master System seriously)

There is a format war per se, but as SephirothYuyX implied, it is hardly a huge deal *right now*. 3 years from now? Maybe, once a large portion of people do start adding HDTVs to their regular household appliances, but it is virtually impossible to predict if/when that will occur (and they are not anywhere near "cheap" right now, unless you happen to find a ridiculous super mega sale somewhere). That is a long way into the life of a console, and waiting that long just for the format to pick up steam in hopes that will be the main source of systems infiltrating the market, is going to put the userbase years behind a rival's. Believe what you will about just how "fast" this change is occuring, but I still see people being on normal DVDs for a long time to come. The technology isn't *that* old and the HDTV/Bluray disc improvements are considered very minor to the majority of the population, *and* a huge upgrade price-wise. Going from neither to both can easily run a person $1500. The 360's *option* to include the HDTV or not is a huge part of it's popularity also, they are giving people the options they desire, an experince that can be optimised/cut down in price depending on things you already own or plan to own. This "Elite" one is just option +1.

I thought that video was pretty good when I watched it earlier. I really liked how he said they are figuring out a plan for people who want to switch over from their current system. It is nice that M$ realizes that is a concern and are trying to work on something to fix it.

Does anyone know with the 360 if I can plug in my flash drive, and hold my saves on there from games incase I do trade in my current one?

As far as Bluray/HD-DVD, it is pretty clear at this point that MS accepts Bluray as winning that war, seeing as how it is currently 2-1.

My understanding is that this relates to ... well... i suppose i don't understand? He first said that for those people that simply upgrade their HD, will use a quick and painless piece of software to transfer HD content over.

Then he went on to say that they are "working on" something that would allow people to carry over content if they "upgrade." I am missing the difference here. I assume he means DL'd content? Arcade? Purchased items from the Marketplace?

Also... i just have to wonder, given the hiccup that Beta 360 FFXI users had on launch day, how well FFXI is going to play with the HD transfer.

Should be intersting in a month or so to see.

I can only assume that tonight's 9PST announcement involves Halo3.

Why would it involve a 2-4 year old game (not sure exactly of the time). Unless you mean the Games for Windows version.

I am guessing it has to do with the Halo 3 Beta.

An offical apology for 2's storyline is long overdue.

We can't only post funny things Sony reps say, here's one from MS:

March 28, 2007 - Oh, sweet mud-slinging, how we love you. It would be impossible to count how many times company reps poked fun at GameCube, just as it would be a difficult undertaking to calculate how many times former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi spoke ill of his hardware competitors. Nowadays, though, publishers rarely speak badly of Nintendo or Wii as both are overwhelming success stories.

But Microsoft's group product manager for Xbox and the Live platform, John Rodman, recently took a stab at it. According to a report by Daily Tech, Rodman insinuated that gamers would outgrow Nintendo's new console just as soon as their voices started to change.

"We don't feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing," Rodman reportedly said. "We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14, they want something else."

Whoops. We must've missed that memo. And so did our parents.
