I think I'm gonna go buy Mass Effect tonight, anyone play through it yet? Is it worth the $60 or should I just go rent it?

from everything im hearing from customers its worth the buy, dont think you'd get full enjoyment on renting it, and its fun to mess around with again and again.
Buy it. You'll want to play it at least 4 or 5 times through to experience all the different classes/the effects the achievements give you (once you unlock achievements you get helpful stuff like lower recast times on certain abilities, etc.)Originally Posted by Deejay
fairly general concensus that Mass Effect has plenty of content to warrant a purchase.
I really enjoyed the original Knights of the Old Republic, so this would be pretty much a day 1 purchase if I owned a 360.
Yeah, its a buy. Unless you have a ton of free time on your hands, you'd never get to fully experience the game with a rental.
I'm a few hours into my second play, and the game hasn't lost any of its magic.
I'm bored, slow week for video game news.
Slow week for video game news?? The Soul Caliber IV guest characters are going to be Darth Vader and Yoda! If that's not cool I don't know what is.
that doesnt really cause any good wars tho, i mean come on, everyone knows vader is better than yoda.
I suck at fighters
Anyway, I'm anxious for the next Kojiproduction Ryan Payton (MGS4) podcast. He mentioned if the Seahawks lose to the Packers (which they did) he would try to get permission to make an announcement earlier than was planned. I keep F5ing n4g.com, even though I'm pretty sure the podcast will likely be released on Thursday.
Hope it's somethin' solid.
Well, given that information I will try to start a war. Vader is better than Yoda, the PS3 gets Vader and the 360 gets Yoda therefore the PS3 is better than the 360!Originally Posted by izembo
When Soul Caliber comes out we can use some simple math to get a rational look at which character sold better. (if you really care, lol)
Number of game copies sold, divided by total userbase, gives you your ballpark percentage of owners who purchased the game
Now compare the data from each console and you have a decent comparison to go by.(in theory)
an example:
According to vgchartz.com which is most likely fail to begin with:
Mass Effect has sold 1,270,000 so far divided by 16,470,000 is 0.077 which is 7.7% of the userbase
Uncharted sold 820,000 so far divided by 9,200,000 is 0.089 which is 8.9% of the userbase
That comparison ignores relative competition the game faces on the respective system.
Edit: Thats not to say I disagree with the basic idea there though. Just that when people ask in this thread which games are "must own" on the PS3, I see the same 2-3 titles, whereas if you ask that same question on the 360, you're going to get a handful more, and theres only so much money the consumer can spend in a crowded market on their console of choice.
Yoda wins in my book. Darth is cool but using a big tall guy in a cape isn't as amusing as fucking people up with a bagillion year old green midget.

Soul Caliber is slated for a 2009 release as of right now, god knows what competition it may have by then. VF6? lol
tekken 6? :O
Have to admit, wasn't too excited for the game but I was in the mood for a good next-gen RPG, and then remembered that Mass Effect is out, lol. FINALLY FINISHED my math work. Time to see how good this game is.
I don't think the Soul Caliber numbers will vary that much between system, didn't the last one have seperate unlockable characters too? If it were something monumental like Link than maybe, but both these characters are equally popular.
I understand what you're saying and as a basis for discussion I'm right there with ya, just saying that the formula is more complicated than raw software to hardware sales, especially when everything isn't equal and the games don't even belong to the same genre.
Applying that as is to Soul Calibur should be a lot more accurate, since they are the same game.
pretty sure it had seperate unlockables like you mentioned Deejay, and it was never really a "massive seller" in respect to other notables.
I hope you 360 boys enjoy your MAss Effect. Because I'm itching for the sequel to be on the PS3 as well, haha.
soul calibur 3 was ps2 only. soul calibur 2 on the other hand had Link in the gamecube version, spawn in the xbox one, and heihachi in the ps2 version.
sold pretty well.
I think the Nintendo one sold the best just because there extra character was actually good. I mean Spawn and Heihachi vs Link? What were the developers thinking. They should have used Cloud or something for the PS2 and Master Chief for xbox. I guess they learned there lesson though, seeing as this time it's much more balanced with Vader vs Yoda.Originally Posted by izembo
