I don't think it's appropriate to call versus a spinoff, they're being developed at the same time as part of the same universe.
Spin-off moreso applies to any titles created after the fact to capitalise on popularity.
Well, at least I think so..

We haven't seen any gameplay footage yet though. >.<
And I wouldn't call Versus a spinoff, but it's not exactly a mainstream title either... it's just there. (with the FF title slapped on it.)
Either way though, MGS, FF13, Versus 13 are going to be all day 1 buys for me. It might cause me to disappear from FFXI for like 1-2 weeks.![]()
To be fair, if that was the exact question (I think I'm reading it right), it isn't really saying "most of them wanted MGS4 instead of FF13" so much as that is when they plan to buy a PS3. If it was something like "Are you more excited about MGS4 or FF13?" or "If you had to choose between MGS4 and FF13, which would it be?", then you'd be on to something. Even then, compare the amount of info. known about the 2.Originally Posted by Mysterio
And I'd say X-2 and Versus are "expansions of X/XIII's plot (X-2's case)/background (Versus's case)", or something. Maybe side-stories?

Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
This sounds like a MaxxthePenguin post.
It's not a mainstream title, as it doesn't carry a roman numeral like the others do ("Versus XIII" doesn't count)... it's not the same as the mainstream series (VIII/IX/X, etc.) ... stop being ignorant for the sake of starting an argument ffs, you know as well as I do that it's not considered one.Originally Posted by Mysterio
And from what i've seen so far, all the videos that have been out are just different variations of the same goddamn cutscene showing him destroy a million soldiers with his 108907389753 swords. a CGI rendered video is hardly gameplay footage.
Wouldn't the fact that many (most?) of the key people behind the final fantasy franchise, have left Square/SE since the start of the PS2 era, have more to do with it? Or did those people leave because of the merger?Originally Posted by Exoduso
I certainly don't think the production values or graphics of FFX/FFXII were bad, but the stories, character design, sphere-grid/license system, etc were all sub-par IMO. The areas and monsters in FFXII were especially generic and badly designed, which is one of things I've always liked FF for.
As for FFIX being a sleeper hit, I would agree, it was a great game. However, it's low sales compared to it's predecessors is more of a testament to peoples disappointment with FFVIII after FFVII, than the quality of FFIX itself. For example, most fighting game fans would consider Tekken 5 a better game than Tekken 4, but Tekken 5 sales were significantly lower, due to T4 turning many people away from the series. The other big factor I would think is the deformed/cartoony character design, which I thought was fitting, but obviously can really people sway people away from games, look at Zelda WW.
When you said we hadn't seen gameplay footage I thought you were referring again to FF13, not versus 13. Because you said the same thing about FF13 a few weeks ago.
Both games carry the same XIII moniker... I don't even know why I'm disputing your points to begin with, because it's honestly the same drivel day in and day out. Post some news or something, not your dysfunctional views on the FF games. lol
This is completely an unrelated post to the FFXIII or FFVsXIII debate:

Time to start pressing the Square button and Circle button, a shit ton of times ^-^
Game only cost me 3.98 + S&H (F'n $7, -.-), well worth the price, to relive my memories, giddy as a school girl mood atm![]()
Just picked up Burnout Paradise for the PS3. It was very well worth the purchase, its a pretty great game ;3
Legend of Dragoon is a fucking sweet game. Was the first RPG that I really fell in love with.
I'm pissed that they never made a god damn sequel.
Even the Commercials for Legend of Dragoon were good lol. http://youtube.com/watch?v=5qiFsT41AHg![]()
After nearly 10 years, Elsa Raven's 'If You Still Believe' is still one of my favorite songs. I thought the gameplay was good, but characters (aside from Rose) were a little under-developed and there wasn't enough to do outside of the story (i.e. hidden dungeons/bosses and mini-games). English VA didn't help any.
Thats pretty cool, too bad you didn't get a non-greatest hits version.
So, did the Wii finally get a decent, mainstream third-party action title? No More Heroes is finally out, and the reviews are trickling in. Metacritic has the game at 87% with 7 reviews, most notably a 90 from Gamespot. I didn't really want to get my hopes up for the title since most third-party Wii software has sucked, but this one might apparently be the diamond.
Anyone else planning to pick it up?
Ign gave it a 7.8 mainly because they say the scheme of the game is repetitive and its to GTA-esque. I'm picking up another wii for myself on friday I'll probably pick this game up to.Originally Posted by Xavier

apparently it's not as "free-roaming" as one might expect.
some cons were also the highly repetitive gameplay button mashing, and assassin's creed kind of missions which don't vary much at all.
The boss fights provide their own unique challenges, and are apparently pretty cool. Overall the game seems to be well done.
Ya that was an awesome game for the PSX to go out with (think it was one of the last RPG's on the system before the PS2 came out).Originally Posted by Deejay
Where'd you get it for so cheap?
nvm i see on amazon.com
Playing through FF9, for some reason I never made it all the way through the first time. OMFG RANDOM ENCOUNTERS ARE ANNOYING.
