What part of DMC4 couldn't have been on PS2 without the graphics upgrade? The game doesn't seem different, like at all.

I can apply that to mostly every single game in existance. If you can't see the difference or potential fun to be had gameplay wise then maybe you should stick to run of the mill action games.

No wonder 720p and 1080p look the same to you t('-'t) But... as far as the graphics go I wouldn't go that far, however, that is no Uncharted either. Maybe because it was developed as a multi sys gaem? ;o

That's the main reason why I never gonna bother with the series again (tried my friend's Sigma copy, hence the disgust), that shit is just boring and is nothing more than button smashing. BUT, there are gamers who like to button smash

    Re: The Console Wars (360 / PS3 / Wii)

I think DMC4 was developed on/for PC then ported for PS3/360 (whether a PC version will come from this I dunno). But the graphics are the least of my concerns, the boost is nice but once you get playing you won't notice the graphics at all because you'll be to busy playing the game.

Sure, you might notice them during CS and walking about, but when it matters the graphics are pushed to the back of your mind.

I finished NG1 on the Xbox, but it was mainly because my friend and I did a console swap so after playing everything I wanted too all I was left with was NG. And the dial a combo system really irritated me. There's no skill involved and no satisfaction in attacking and executing a badass combo. Sure, Hayabusa's signature combo was fun at first, but the novelty soon wears off.

^I'm not gonna lie, but when I first played the demo of DMC4 I was a bit "thrown off" because of the graphics. I'd think it's because I've played Uncharted so much that I was spoiled ;x But yeah, after a while I just didn't care about it and focused on the actual game play. If you think about it, DMC for the PS2 wasn't the best looking game either.

Oh, and being able to change styles on the fly is a huge plus, just imagine the combo possibilities >_> 3 moar days for me ._.

Not really. With NG2 you can see actual progression in the physics engine. I didn't feel any progression when I played the demo for DMC. It was just another DMC...

Edit: it's not a knock to DMC, i'm just saying the game doesn't feel like it couldn't be ported to PS2.

The demo obviously doesn't give you everything DMC has to offer. I think people have these weird expectations on what "next-gen" is, I mean, who gives a shit if the game could have been on the PS2 (which I doubt, but if anyone wants to prove that it could, then so be it). Is a game not being "next-gen" enough so important?

DMC has gotten a huge gameplay boost, this combination is something I personally have no seen, nevermind seeing it done so well.

What gameplay boost are you talking about? What are the differences between DMC4 and it's predecessors?

I sat there shooting monsters in the first demo at the courtyard, you can literally just stand, lock on, and shoot. I never understood lock-on targeting, or how it's supposed to be "fun."

Someone explain to me what the fuck "nextgen" gameplay is, or should be.

Smarter AI: enemies that react to each other.

enemies that actually bend and break before they die. In NG2 you can cut off a guys arm and he'll still try to find ways to kill you before he bleeds to death. (IE: latching to your leg and suicide bombing you)

Broken body parts that react to the environment (like blow in the wind or pushed when your character runs over them) and don't "disappear" after the character dies.

    Real time blood splatter.

Those are just a couple examples of things that you couldn't or don't see in previous generation of games simply because those systems couldn't handle all that processing.

Um, you do realize the demo is probably on the easiest difficulty, right? Have you tried DMD modes in DMC? You won't be able to just "shoot stuff".

On the fly style switching, Exceed and Devil Buster are all things that haven't been in any previous DMC game. Exceed especially is a nice new mechanic they added in, timing your Revs you can create even better, stronger combos than before. With skill and practice you could keep Exceed going consistantly through your combos, making you even stronger than before (it's also needed to perform the better moves). Devil Buster as well is something new in the way it works with enemies to create longer chain combos. Switching styles creates a whole lot of game play possibilities and can be tailored to suit almost any style. Which is by far the most exciting thing. If you can't see the potential of switching styles (each with their own strengths and weaknesses) along with weapons then boo-hoo.
edit: oh yeah, pandora's box, lovely.

Probably more stuff as well, but I'm painstakingly holding myself back because I want to experience everything DMC4 has to offer without prior knowledge.

most of those are cosmetic and you know it, they have nothing to do with actual gameplay. Smarter AI is all well and good, but with boring enemies who gives a fuck how smart the AI is. limbs blowing in the wind? gotta be some strong winds there, or baby limbs.

real time blood splatter really does make or break games though, truly next gen stuff.

the only thing you said that is even remotely interesting is someone still trying to kill you even though their arms/legs have been cut off

Every DMC you have the option to just be a pussy and shoot stuff, but I think the fun comes from, you know pressing the other buttons once in a while.

@Elcura, Out of curiosity, did you beat all of the enemies and the final boss in the timed demo? I managed to beat it at the 50 sec. mark on my 3rd try. Of course, I had to memorize the enemy locations, etc. and practice the final boss first lol

Yeah, took me a few tries (first few I didn't know the demo ran all the way to the boss, thought you had to play extermination mode to fight Berial). I think when I beat it completely it was my 5th go. I didn't really do anything special, but enemies died really fast when you exceed combo them (exceed owns). can't remember how much time I had left on the clock though.

frosts and berial are easy enough once you get used to them, I just entered the final room and exited back again to fight more frosts so when it came to that part in the timed demo I raped them all without incident

I'm still trying to master the instant revving... I got most of the attacks down, including the reved attacks, but once you get the timing down on them you're pretty much untouchable (and on top of that, you do a shitload more damage.)

Haha yeah. I the timing of the exceed is not that bad, and like most things in DMC, once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature. It's probably going to change since some of the weapons are faster/slower though ;x

Are you playing on a 360? If so how do you like the controls?

@ Exo, one way to practice to fill one bar, just place Nero facing to either right or left. Then swing the sword, as soon as you see the sword horizontal to your screen, hit the L2 to charge it, and you will get it.

    • P1: Pause .5 sec[/*:m:2uyx9ete]
    • P2: Pause 1 sec.[/*:m:2uyx9ete]
    • T: Triangle[/*:m:2uyx9ete]

Try this combo: T, T, P2, T, T. with out the charges. It's longer, but nvm that right now lol.

    Here is with the charges:
    T P1 (hit L2), T P1 (hit L2), P2, T P1 (hit L2), T P1 (hit L2)
