Lost Odyssey only 78% currently.

Not as hot as one would have thought, seems like most people expected some change from the traditional formula.

78% isn't bad at all, but not the kinda shit they had expected.

The review build wasn't the same as the game that got shipped to stores. The review build had worse technical problems than Mass Effect coupled with extremely bad load times.

Had the retail version been reviewed you would have seen 8.5's across the board.

Yeah, even though turn based battle system and random encounters are 'archaic', it's still a ton of fun. The story and the dreams are AMAZING. I'm on Disc 3, but for some reason I got it in me to do all of DMC4 first. I'm about finished with Hell and Hell mode, then it's back to LO!

IMO, Lost Odyssey has thus far (I'm on disc 3) played every bit like a traditional Final Fantasy game, in terms of gameplay, story, characters and presentation. It could have easily been called Lost Fantasy, Final Odyssey or something (and I wish it had been, would have been hilarious for Sakaguchi to stick it to them).

The real shame though, like people pointed out, is that the retail version of the game was vastly improved over the review build in terms of load times and framerate, which almost every reviewer wouldn't stop bitching about in their scores. Someone linked to an article where Gamespot said that they might re-review the game and change their score if the reports about the technical problems were true, but I haven't seen anything come from that.

Not might, they actually dropped their review and put some little note at the bottom apologizing after realizing the retail was different, and they will grade it accordingly.

And as someone who beat the game I completely agree, this is a Final Fantasy in every sense of the word as we used to know it in the last 20 years. It could've easily been FF12 if Sakaguchi and his team were still in Square.

edit: okay it's back up now, doesn't seem like they changed the score though heh... they did note that they amended the review, but it seems like only the text was altered. Not that people expected them to, if it's not a shooter Gamespot hates it.

Trust me on this one though, ignore the reviews and just get the game. You won't regret it. Just check out the LO thread and see for yourself.

LO is great and every 360 owner who likes RPGs should buy it. DON'T expect perfection though.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Nintendo's Takashi Aoyama talked about the project that consumed the last two years of his life, the Wii Menu, at Game Developers Conference.

He made two very big announcements during his talk: First, Wii games would soon be able to feature downloadable content that users can spend Wii Points on. Second, Nintendo will begin charging for certain games' online gameplay services.

The fuck? I like the idea of downloadables, but WHERE am I going to put it? And what is so amazing that you'd charge for it? Are they hinting at that Animal Crossing MMO and GH3 DLC-type stuff? That's all I can think of tbh...and they NEED a freaking hard drive. Seriously, it's not even a discussion anymore, it's a fact of life.

I never cared very much about what the Wii didn't have as far as online went, because it was free and the Wii stuff is better imo that Xbox Silver stuff, but I honestly can't think of much I'd be willing to pay for on the Wii without a lot more functionality thrown in. I know they won't be charging for stuff I already have and am currently using, but still...

I have a 1GB sandisk that came with the Wii bundle when I bought it at launch, I think it will be enough for whatever they offer. I have GH3 and Rock Band on the 360 anyways, so it's not an issue for me.

Yeah, I have a 2GB sandisk card for my Wii, should be plenty of storage for the foreseeable future unless they -really- offer a lot of downloadable content. If I had one complaint its that I wish you could actually play VC games off the card instead of being forced to store them locally on the Wii's small 512MB memory.

I'm not an online wiz as far as the storage cards go, but would you be able to save DLC into a card if they don't let you use it for VC games now? And could MMO-ish stuff be saveable on a card like that? I thought the whole point of no card support for those was that people could give them to someone else, and lose Nintendo money.

I'm more worried about how they actually implement it also. There's a lot to be desired of the Wii's current online situation, and I don't even like a lot of aspects of Xboxlive that I am currently paying for, and it is superior in many ways, with matchmaking, headset support, the Gamertag interface, whatever. They have a lot they need to announce (imo) before they start releasing these types of content, if they want it to be successful and a good service overall. I hate to admit it, but a lot of people buying Wiis atm are not interested at all in online, and those that are could be instantly turned off by anything remotely complicated, like a billion friend codes to shift through. That would kill a lot of the "massive" part of the MMO.

On the other hand...Pokemon MMO! The very thought of it, especially if it were good, compels me...(what else could topple WoW? )

They can add a feature that locks whatever you download only to the specific accessory/console you downloaded it on, so it might be possible to download stuff to your card, yet you won't be able to transfer it to different cards/consoles.. who knows.

They can just do what they do on the 360, where each item is connected to the account... you can redownload any items you have already paid for/downloaded as many times as you want as long as you're logged on to your profile.

I'm pretty sure they could make an external HDD attachment for Wii if they wanted to. They are going to charge for online for some games, it better be a whole fucking lot better than what they've been giving us now.

I'm not an expert but I'm fairly certain you could lock the content to a specific account or system regardless of where you store the program. Program would check for your Wii's serial number, if it didn't match up, wouldn't load, or would offer the user the option of buying the software to use on their Wii too.

I'm just saying, I don't believe that sharing is an insurmountable obstacle.

Yeah that's what I said in my other post (might've been in the Wii thread, don't remember heh).. if they lock it then it's all good... but if they LOCK IT, then they need to give you the option of saving it onto your card rather than the silly little 512mb space they have set up on the console itself.
