Fun as hell buying it. I accidentally kidnapped a baby.
It's the only right way to do it.Originally Posted by Elcura

Just to be clear on this, Microsoft paid Rockstar $50 million for exclusive content, specifically for the development of that content exclusively for the 360. Rumors that the content Microsoft paid to have developed will appear on the PS3 are just that, rumors. I can link to 50 different articles that speculate MGS4 is coming out for the 360, it doesn't mean that MGS4 is coming out for the 360.Originally Posted by CaptainN
Second, Home is exciting and all, but the Home Open Beta was just delayed until Fall 2008, after it had already been delayed to this Spring. I think Home sounds really awesome, but it isn't out yet and won't be out for a while.
I'm not trying to talk people into buying either, people are free to buy the version they want, I just don't see how anyone can give the PS3 version an advantage, at least at launch and in the near future.
Just to be clear, I was never giving the PS3 version the "advantage" just pointing out the PS3 version has achievements and a rumor of downloadable content. I also didn't say PS3 would get the 360 content. Your right the home items don't matter right now but at least the achievements are still in the game. We will have to see how the tables turn for the downloadable content.Originally Posted by Xavier
Err, well I probably should've specified I meant DLC as in additional downloadable content for a game, not full games (such as Ikaruga, Xbox Originals and such). And sure, I can see how additional songs for Rock Band might be worth it, but really, most additional content is pretty retarded (I see you brought up Shivering Isles, which is an actual expansion pack for Oblivion... how about the "real" DLCs for Oblivion; mount armor and stuff like that, anyway actually bought those? :D).
All I'm saying is, if your only reason for buying the game for a specific platform is that you get to buy (emphasis on buy, it's not like they are going to hand it out for free) more content in possibly small chunks, then I don't see how that is any better reason than mine.![]()
So you'd rather have the game on a platform with 0% chance of having extra content? What part of that makes sense? It's silly to act like the content won't amount to anything when you don't know what the hell it'll even consist of. However, it's safe to assume that MS didn't spend $50mil on a downloadable wardrobe.
It might not matter to you but no one said it should. They're just saying that getting extra content does matter in the grand scope whether you like it or not.
Spending $50 million gets me thinking we'll see the usual rip-off stuff, but over a long time. That's a lot of money. They are going to want to make a bigger profit.
I suspect we'll see stuff like "4 new missions!" once every two-four months for 2 years at the cost of 10-12 dollars a piece.
The idea is that 2+ million people will be playing this game that are interested in downloading stuff, even once. If they can squeeze 4-5 payments(which doesn't sound too hard considering how many people buy Halo and CoD4 maps), that's already double what they payed for.
Most additional content is retarded, but as Deejay said, I don't think Microsoft spent $50 million on an exclusive wardrobe.Originally Posted by Anderian
The initial point I was trying to make, back when this all started, was that if you have the choice between the 360 and the PS3 version, I don't see how you can ignore the DLC of the 360. People are going to buy the version for the system they use more in general, but all things being equal, the 360 version has an edge if you already have and use both systems. This isn't a fanboy rant either, just a raw observation.
Grand Theft Auto is kind of unique though, I agree with you guys who pointed it out, that a lot of people who buy it don't necessarily play through the story much, if at all. I remember that I did a lot of the missions in GTA3, some of them in Vice City, and barely touched them in San Andreas. A lot of the appeal is definitely jacking a car, driving really fast in a police chase, and spectacular crashes. For those people, the type of DLC definitely matters, as new missions won't interest them, but an expanded city or new vehicles / radio stations, etc might be attractive.
yea i hated the missions, was why i got worn out on gta's and am not even picking this one up.
about the 50million though, it was an advance/loan on the money they'll make back from the DLC. so its not a straight 50m outta their pocket either.
Yeah, I get it that PS3 might be left without any DLC, but it's not that big of a deal to me. To this day, I still haven't bought any additional content for any of my PS3 or Xbox360 games, because I have deemed them to be more expensive than they are worth.Originally Posted by Xavier
However, should the DLC be something actually worth putting money down, I imagine I can find a used copy of GTAIV for Xbox360 quite easily, seeing as how popular it will be, but until that happens, I'll rather have it on a machine that probably won't break down during game session (not trying to bash Xbox360, but like I mentioned, I had quite a scare with Lost Odyssey).
Right now, however, I think that the DLCs for GTAIV are not going to be worth it. If I recall correctly, they said they were going to be episodic, which in my book means few extra missions for 5$/5€ that most people probably finish in an hour or so. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
You seem to be very vocal and very outspoken about trying to convince everyone you're making the right call.If you don't care about the potential of new missions/cities/etc. etc. as DLC you'd have to pay for, get it for the console you feel most comfortable with in terms of noise (I can see how that would be annoying if your 360 has one of the worse drives) or your controller of choice. If for you that's the PS3, then more power to you.
I'm getting it for the 360 because DLC > no DLC, and that's enough for me.
I am going to be buying a 360 from my friend in a few days with Rock Band with all the peripherals and CoD4 for 300 bucks and haven't decided yet whether to get it for PS3 or 360. I really don't want to pay the money for Live at this point so I'm not sure. But in my opinion when it comes to this DLC, when it finally comes out, you are going to be playing games like Gears 2 and Fallout 3. Are you really going to stop playing those games to go back to GTA4 and play the new content you just downloaded?
By the way, with that 360 I'm going to be getting, is there anything I would need like the original receipts in case I get RRoD and have to send it in?
Nope
You wouldn't need the original receipts but you need to make sure that the 360 serial number isn't registered to your friends Gamertag, and if it is, to have him cancel/remove it and for you to register it under whatever name you create at Xbox.com.Originally Posted by Pyro
I'm genuinely surprised, the fact you can do most missions in at least 2 or 3 different ways, is simply amazing. No I'm not trying to turn you guys to the "mission side of the carjacking-Force", I am however, surprised.Originally Posted by Xavier

We have been beating on the poor horse for 3 pages already but:
The content most likely will not be free, so chances or no chances you still have to pay for it, we could argue that said content might be worth the purchase vs. a new game, you guys are however forcing your opinion on people (well it looks like it), we should do as Exoduso says.Originally Posted by Deejay
I actually plan to do all the missions this time around, because I'm an achievement whore. Laugh at achievements, they actually motivate me to do things I wouldn't of before. I -never- would have done the majority of Mass Effect three times, done the side quests in Lost Odyssey, etc, without them. I actually really enjoyed both games, but achievements (despite being nothing but bragging rights) have pushed me to fully complete them.Originally Posted by Tajin
And nobody is forcing an opinion on anyone.
There are good achievements and bad achievements. I find the concept good but execution rather poor due to the fact you can beat King Kong for 1000 vs good games that handle them well. I won't bring up FFXI's for the sake of sanity.

Ok Xavier, my english it too fucking bad, but please stop with the "HAY LOL AT ACHIEVEMENTS" I said it once because you used that to try and "sell" me the 360 version, true I think the whole achievements thing is silly, but I have not said that directed to you in any way, shape or form after my initial reply so please stop before I get banned -_-.
Again, my english is bad but: "So you'd rather have the game on a platform with 0% chance of having extra content?" feels like he is trying to induce doubt in a persons choice. Lets just stop that topic >.> I'm derailing again into bullshit ._.
