    mario says hi.
Can counter that with better graphics on the PS2, lol

But I guess you're comparing it to Zelda? right?

you seem to be confusing better graphics with realism.

Thats exactly what I'm trying to convey, enhanced Realism is indeed better graphics.

Mario does look good fully rendered in the SSB CGI's I've seen, there is a vast resource for him in nex-gen graphics, lol.

LittleBigplanet would be super smash hit(no pun intended) if it was the Mario universe characters.

LOL no it's not. Differences of opinion, you actually care if you can see the wrinkles in someone's shirt, that's great for you.

But don't go off trying to say God of War 2 is as good looking as SMG.

They've just now hit the roof with mario, that SMG screenshot already looks better than the high quality rendered picture they post of him everywhere.

Also, that picture I posted is a resized version of the original. I didn't want to post the original though since it would break the page.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here.

Oh just Super Smash brothers, and the fact it may or may not be that popular on the PS3(littlebigplanet), whereas it would on the Wii.

    Check it out, interesting game.

If it's differences of opinion then I could just as easily say don't go off saying SMG is as good looking as God of War 2.

The difference of opinion here is that you prefer realism to non-realistic graphics where the characters have nonsensical proportions.

But graphically, SMG is superior. And saying God of War 2 is better looking because you prefer the style is ridiculous. GoW2 is beautifully done, but come on.

edit* I've seen the GDC video for Little Big Planet, it's definitely interesting. A bit of an overblown level editor in my opinion though.

Nintendo used to do their best or even eclipse Sony and Sega in the graphical department.

The N64 was a beast when it first came out, and Mario 64 was undoubtably my favourite game for a long time.

So you're saying Mario graphics are capped out saying they can't get any better, what if you had the graphical rendering of Little Big Planet for the upcoming Mario games?

What I meant by capped out was putting it on a powerhouse like the PS3 would've resulted in largely the same product. A bright colorful universe. There's no real amount of buildings to texture in high quality or need for top-notch A.I. when the normal enemy in the game is made to be taken down in one hit of a jump and your life is restored everytime you grab one of the greatly abundant coins.

I'll flat out admit PS3 is a scary piece of hardware, and I'm not saying Mario couldn't be done down to putting individual hairs on his mustache, but that pretty much goes against the whole vision of Mario. A simple guy with a simple goal. We've been rescuing the princess for what, 20 years now?

I think it'd just be a waste. Zelda and Metroid on the other hand would be incredible on PS3/360.

that was going to be my next question.

I do agree with you in essense on the Mario theory. But how many Mario games do they have to release with the idea of "Simple guy, simple goal" to keep that notion for the entire system fresh in everyones minds?

Unless the game is cutesy with an animated feeling they are going to seriously fail compared to the other systems. Unless they can maintain a serious gameplay innovative edge with the wii-mote... But how long until that wears thin? They'd be hard fought to accomplish a greater level of control on every game with the motion sensing as opposed to a generic controller.

EDIT: I just read that Super Paper Mario was originally designed for the Gamecube, and we all know Zelda was as well. Further to statements earlier by Kenai.

I think Mario was always the kind of more casual guy in their franchise. I can understand where you're coming from though, there's only so many times you can make a game that looks the same as the last one before people want something new, but on that same token I have faith Nintedo will continue to innovate in unique ways as they did with the Wii.

To put it bluntly, Nintendo really isn't in the market to try and appeal to you directly. And as a gamer myself, I know why you would get tired of looking at the same 'ol same 'ol, but the Wii is kind of that "other" system to have for the more tech-savvy users such as yourself.

Nintendo is trying to expand the market horizontally rather than vertically as Microsoft and Sony are doing. How long will it work? I really couldn't tell you.

But I do hope Wii 2 will be able to detect your hand/arm movements 1:1, maybe through a glove of some sort a la a version of the Power Glove that doesn't suck. Taking away the '2d' interface of games today and making it '3d' if you will.

I guess I'm just not totally sold on the whole wii-mote motion sensing theory.

I'm not defending the anal-implosion rip-off SIXAXIS either, I think it's really lame on Sony's part.

I understand Nintendo is trying to appeal to a broader spectrum. That spectrum lost me when it lost Final Fantasy back in the day.

but the Wii is kind of that "other" system to have for the more tech-savvy users such as yourself.
I don't think you understand, lol

Wii does not appeal to me. It's not that I can't afford it or anything, it's just that none of the games on the Wii appeal to me at all to be honest, they did when I was 13 when I had an N64.

Microsoft and Sony should just cheat and spend some coin and release their own version of the wii-motes, forcing Nintendo into the handheld business and third party development for XBOX and PS3 lol.

Well, it's kind of hit or miss with people. A lot of games recently do have that kind of tacked on feel where buttons are just as good.(UbiPort, RE4 Wii port, House of the Dead: Umbrella Chronicles)

Also as GRT mentioned, the Wiimote would really benefit from sensitivity options. I was beating TP again and I was endlessly annoyed that I had to keep my wrist perfectly still during the energy-ball volley between one of the end bosses because even when pulling my hand back to it's default position, Link would swing twice and I'd end up missing the window of opportunity and get hit.

Anyways, I only bought the Wii originally because the investment was relatively low-risk. Even if it's a shit system, Nintendo always puts 150% into their first party titles. I'm not completely sold on Motion Controls(in their current form) being the next step until Metroid, Zelda(the new one), or even Mario make me think "This could NOT be done on another system".

Microsoft and Sony should just cheat and spend some coin and release their own version of the wii-motes, forcing Nintendo into the handheld business and third party development for XBOX and PS3 lol.
Funny you mention that, Sony has patented several wii-mote rip offs. Whether they do something with that is anyones guess.

By the way, the Wiimote was originally developed as an add-on for the Gamecube, until they decided to make a new console around the controller. So you can say it really is just two gamecubes duct-taped together

I was saying it was a slightly revamped Gamecube earlier, I dunno about calling it two, lol.

It really, really needs online play. Would go to great lengths to helping its longevity.

I think Wii's first NA online capable game is the Pokemon Battle Stadium game

I was watching AOTS on G4TV (I was bored), and Leila Ali (smexy <3) was doing here "The Feed" headline rundown, and they showed Super Mario All-Star Strikers 3? (w/e, I butchered the title name) that the EU would get online play but not the NA market =/

    Found it:

Yep. That's why I can't wait for a game built for it from the ground up, and why I think basing the Wii's graphical potential on what's out now is so stupid. Even if it can't beat the PS3/360 graphically, that doesn't meant the games can't look good. Best of all, they've been saying from the beggining that they weren't trying to outdo them competition graphically, so they don't have to try. Of course, people will still complain about it anyway, despite the fact that the most graphically powerful system never seems to win, ever...

Unfortunately if you think SSBB is going to beat out Halo 3, you most not remember Halo 2 launch. Its hard to say what the Wii graphical ability is because its still early in its development. To say there have been no games build from the ground up for the Wii is dumb though. Red steel was build from the ground up and maybe other 3rd party games have also been built from the ground up.

Red Steel was bulit from the ground up, but is a *launch* game too. It's simply a matter of not being able to say that the Wii isn't capable of better graphics and gameplay based on early releases. The speces aren't fully utilized, and won't be for years to come.

As for SSBB beating out Halo 3, yes, I would dare say it is gonna outdo Halo 3. That game has always been on the top 3 or 4 in every "Most Wanted list" in basically every video game mag/website I have been checking since the big trailers first debuted about a year ago, back when it was still lolWii, even. They also haven't even announced a large part of the characters in that game, I can just imagine a ton of people saying sometime soon "Zomg I HAVE to get it! They revealed _____! _____ is my dude/dudette!" If the 360 were more popular in Japan, I'd say it would probably outdo it, but that is going to be the game to own this year, for sure. It's going to be out sooner, the Wii will still have the hype going for it this summer when it's released, and that's only going to refuel that hype, maybe even make it crazier than before. It's one of those games the "hardcore" and "casual" alike will just flip over.
