oh well...I guess I can always pull out the old PS2 and play my games. I retired my PS2 ever since I *gasp* gotten the 360...don't hurt me now!

The PS3 has progressively lost features over time. The PS3 slim has no flash media slots, only two USB ports, no SACD, no Linux, no PS2 backwards compatibility in hardware or software, etc.
They do, of course, still play PS1 games.
It also does properly pass HD audio streams out for external decoding, uses less power, and runs cooler, making it a better Blu-Ray player (and PS3 game player, I suppose) than ever >.>b
Personally I have an MGS bundle 80GB, and I quite appreciate that I can just play PS2 games automatically in the right ratio, with a slight bit of smoothing, and don't need to futz with non-HDMI devices in my living room. I really don't see why Sony removed what, to me, is a real nice bonus. Wii is an overclocked, er, plays Gamecube games, 360 plays (some) XBox games, yet Sony drops that feature. Meh >_>
Tbh the only reason I like my 360 better than my Ps3 is because I think the 360 controller is vastly superior.
A design modeled after the greatest controller ever made, the dreamcast. I do like the 360 controller better for FPS's. But for anything else, I prefer the PS3 controller. That said, i hardly ever play FPS's much anymore, the genre is pretty fucking boring after getting beatin with them for the last 5 years.
You're making me not really want the PS3 as much again... =/
PS2's controller is still ranked as my favorite controller. I have small hands ok I guess they're petite hands...and the 360 controller is not really to my likingI was hoping the Ps3 controller would be similar to the PS2 not just looks but the reliability.
The PS3 controller is just a little bigger than the PS2 controller but its much lighter and feels really good in your hand. While I had a 360 I went through 3 controllers, in 2 years because the analogs went out, I dont beat them out of anger or anything, I baby my shit. Ive had the same PS3 controller since I got mine 2 years ago and never had a problem. Not sure what you mean by reliability.
Yeah lol, when that happens its time to get a new new controller pretty much. I wore out analogs on two of those controllers on Ninja Gaiden 2. He would just move on his own, so annoying. Man controllers are damn expensive now too to replace. One controller is like being able to buy a game, sucks man.
I'm not saying it isn't a good machine. It just gives me a chuckle when I see the "it only does everything" ads is more the thing. I'd still recommend one - again, for the "main" uses of PS3 games and playing DVDs/Blu-Ray, the latest version is better than ever. You're making me not really want the PS3 as much again... =/

I bought mine primarily as a Blu-Ray player, which it does quite well at, but I've actually bought some games for it over the 360 due to the controller. The 360 D-pad should be considered a criminal offense. I haven't had problems with the controllers for either console at any rate, but I can't honestly say that I play either of them heavily.
Hence why I still have the same goddamn controller I had since 2008...it's been 2 yrs! I just like to pretend my characters are little "special" ya know....(T_T) "Let's see if there's anyth.............goddamnit!!!!!!! COME BACK HERE!"
Very angry Demon's Souls player here...
Lost my Platinum save due to my PS3 giving up the ghost... fuck the dev's for locking the save file.
Original release unit imported from America... and the backup I had doesn't work with the Slim SKU over here in Rainy Shitty Britain.
FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! (Rant over)
Lujan out
sorry Lujan.
But what exactly is this "ghost"
I'm sorry![]()
You can still get your save file. There is still hope yet, little one.
Open up the PS3 and reflow the solder in the motherboard, follow Gilksy's guide on Youtube. Once Firmware 3.15 hits on Dec 10th, it will allow you to move data (including locked saves) to another PS3 via Ethernet, maybe use a friends PS3, or a new one you may have bought. Once the locked save has transferred it automatically deletes from the original PS3. Then if you do get a new PS3/Refurb or whatever, you can transfer it back over to your PS3 using the same method, assuming you don't just keep using the PS3 you just fixed.
Reflowing the solder joints, if you do it properly, will fix the Yellow Light. But how long it will last will depend on how well the solder reattached, sometimes it can fix it for good, sometimes a few hours, but either way it will be long enough to backup all your shit and deactivate any accounts you have on it.
is this similar to the red ring of death for the 360?
I've had the same 360 controller since day 1 launch, still works fine, even after being thrown at a wall a few timed. I've gone through 4 ps3 controllers though, I have the tendency to twist and squeeze when I get pissed
so many positive things for me to look forward to when I finally get a PS3! /cries
You should be fine, the launch models were that are most at risk to it, and even then it isn't anywhere near as common as the red ring. But the Slim's run a lot cooler and use a lot less power than the launch models, so the chances should be slim to none of it happening unless you keep it in a completely unventilated space.
