The Linux partition is easy to remove. Linux will not run great on the ps3 because it isn't allowed to access all of the processing power of the ps3.

So if the Linux partition is removed I won't have any potential problems in the future? I just want to play games, I have a decent PC already <_<

Reason why I ask is because this is the only PS3 I can find in my area willing to accept trades (was asking for $350 or a decent desktop/laptop). Comes with a 320GB HDD installed and some games. Seeing if he'll take my year-old 2.0GHz dual core/3GB DDR2/240GB HDD/14.1" Gateway laptop plus a little cash. lol

So i wanted to know how people feel about companies like Microsoft paying top money for 1 year of exclusivity just to get those day 1 buyers. I'm wondering, if theres more xbox in the US than playstation 3's, then wouldnt the money saved from NOT paying for exclusive rights for a year win out over time instead of letting your competition get a better version of the game months later? Obviously M$ does make a lot of money from buying the rights but is that anything to bash them for? Like "Man, the only way microsoft can make money is if they spend it on exclusive rights to a game."

For games like Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean, i honestly dont think Microsoft needed exclusive rights(correct me if im wrong and they didnt buy the rights. I just know the games came out later on the PS3). I dont think PS3 sales would have beat out M$ sales either way.

They paid $50mil for the GTA stories exclusivity. And they've been criticized because of it. Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia though, as far as I have read, Microsoft helped with development costs for the games in exchange for a period of exclusivity. I'm fine with that.

the latest firmware updates provide developers an additional 70MB of RAM to work with. The change was initially discovered by PlayStation University, noting the reduction in the system OS's memory footprint, from 120MB to 50MB. As the OS continues to slim down, developers are allowed access to even more usable system memory.

I just hope this means smoother ports from the 360. The PS3 only has a measly 256mb of system RAM no? I'm baffled that the OS used to take 120mb of that, and I'm assuming that was also from pre-ingame XMB days. Wtf were they needing all that space for?

Keeping a manager on bluetooth devices, active USB ports, WiFi/LAN, DRM (the hypervisor) and a friends list can't seriously take that much RAM......

Perhaps they should have reserved at least 20-30mb of that RAM they free'd up though so we could have a universal ingame music-player/crossgame voip. Bugs me when barely any games support custom playlists, and for those that do, it's never via XMB, but a crappy ingame menu. Would be nice if they started enforcing it in their dev kits......maybe along with the snapshot and XMB-game-invites next to no games use.

Anyways, if Sony does indeed kill off Linux partition, they better allow me to repartition my drive without needing to format it. Last thing I want is to have to redownload shit that their backup tool doesn't, as well as potentially lose my copy-protected save data.

I will say that the game isn't nearly as good as some fanboys on the interwebs would like to convince you it is, but the game is certainly worth it at $10. Plus Gamestop will give you $6 or so if you trade it in, so you're really not looking at losing much if you don't like the game.

I picked up a 360 for pretty cheap off my cousin. Can I set it up on it's side without issue? I've heard that 360s can mangle disks if you aren't careful. I've had my PS3 on its side for years without issue and hope I can do that with this 360. I really don't have space to lay it flat.

I had a launch 360 that stood upright for about a year before I upgraded to a couple of Elites recently sold one of those but have had both of them upright and never had an issue. Just make sure it's upright on something stable and plenty of room to breath and you should be fine. I don't know why but PS3's at my house half to lay flat and 360's have to stand up it's a little weird.

If you move it with a disc spinning inside it will fuck up your disc. If the consoles off it should be perfectly fine, but I still take them out personally if I'm moving the console at all.

If you bump into it when it's on its side, or someone else bumps into it and makes it move more than a few degrees to the side.. it will chew up and mangle your disc (scratches a big nasty circle on it), rendering it unplayable. If it's bumped while it's flat on a table, no harm will come.. also, once your 360 is on.. do not move it at all.
