Today TechRadar.com received word from Sony Computer Entertainment of the first 3D games that will be arriving for the PS3 entertainment system, and also news that the rumored June PlayStation 3 Firmware update won't include Blu-ray 3D support.

The PS3 titles already confirmed are Wipeout HD, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust HD... all slated to be released through PSN the same day the 3D TVs, the Bravia LED LCD HX803 range, launches.

To quote:

"The PlayStation 3 will eventually get 3D Blu-ray compatibility but this is to come in the form of another firmware update later in the year.

While it's great that Sony will be offering 3D for free on the PS3, the delay of 3D Blu-ray on the console will be a blow to those PS3 owners looking to buy a 3D TV and save money on not purchasing a 3D Blu-ray player."

From a comic book by Mark Millar to a full feature film and now its very own game: Kick-Ass the game hits the PlayStation Network and Apple's iPhone on April 29, 2010 for $14.99.

Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl and Big Daddy will be playable characters. The game is also set to feature Facebook missions and integration.

Just under a month ago we got our first hint, and this weekend electronic musician Ochre announced via Twitter that he has licensed a song called "Infotain Me" to Sony for LittleBigPlanet 2, the sequel which is being developed for Sony's PlayStation 3.

While Sony hasn't officially announced LittleBigPlanet 2 yet, it is apparently indeed on the way.

"We did previously hear about something called LittleBigPlanet Motion, which uses the PlayStation Move controller to manipulate the environment.

But it isn't clear if that is LittleBigPlanet 2, downloadable content for the first game, or something different entirely.

PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel has announced details today of the mandatory PS3 Firmware 3.30 System Update.

To quote: Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly.

Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.

• Trophy enhancements - Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]

• Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)

• Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)

• Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

I wonder if they adjusted the speed of trophies via ingame XMB as that's where it chokes the most (hell, even for a game to trigger a trophy takes about 5 seconds alone), especially when comparing against another friends' trophies while you're running a game.

Otherwise, seems like a waste of a mandatory update.

The only reason this was released was to disrupt actions of the hacker community. Egohot still hasn't released his "promised" update to match up with the previous. So now that a lot of people are two updates behind, a fair number that had been holding out because they had been using "other os" are now going to give that up so they can play their games. Games like Dragon Age & Resident Evil 5, along with any PSN titles stored, items people paid for, stopped working. People are just giving in to what seems like $ony bullying while $ony is just protecting their interests.

There is also another feature not said yet. Remote Play now has an option to connect to PC.

They say its for the Vaio laptops but shouldn't be too hard to connect it to a normal PC as well.

With the PS3 Firmware 3.30 update, Sony has introduced a new Terms Of Service and User Agreement - Version 6.0 (April 21, 2010).

The most interesting is paragraph 11, to cite:

11. MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES

From time to time, it may become necessary for SCEA to provide certain content to you to ensure that Sony Online Services and content offered through Sony Online Services, your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system or other SCEA-authorized hardware is functioning properly in accordance with SCEA guidelines.

Some content may be provided automatically without notice when you sign in. Such content may include automatic updates or upgrades which may change your current operating system, cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities.

Such upgrades or updates may be provided for system software for your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, or other SCEA-authorized hardware. Access or use to any system software is subject to terms and conditions of a separate end user license agreement found at http://www.us.playstation.com/termsofuse.

That's true the problem is they also wants to rule offline, for instance they can force you to upgrade firmware to play a game(look at some psp and ps3 games)

This is true also. If they add the 'Other OS' update to some game disks (if they haven't already?) I would have a big big problem with that. Shit like what just happened on the PS3 with the trophy folder sorting and junk like that, I'm ok with.

Other OS, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't connect to PSN servers at all, but their loophole out of it is, you have to be signed in.

Its a sticky situation nonetheless.

If you answer yes, you most likely wish they would get fixed, why is it only when it might effect is in a bad way we want to fix something, Sony found a way for someone to hack the system so they fixed it.

My point is not to live without hackers(as this wont do much but keep people from getting free games), but for the most part this equals a hack.. Well hell it is a hack. 99% of the time(ok 99.9999%) we want a hack to be fixed, even if it means toning down a gun or something.

This comes around and bam people cry because it will stop them from getting free games.

I do cry for the few 1000 people who used the other OS for something they liked, but for the bulk of us its a "darn I wont get free games"

I stated including this update on game disks meaning not needing/using an internet connection for it, so online hacking is irrelevant for the situation I was referring to.

And what it did? I had linux on my PS3. I mean I don't really give a shit they removed it honestly, but the way my entertainment devices was set up, it was just a convenience issue. Nothing I can't live without.

In other news, the trophy stuff seems cool.

Edit: Just to clarify, I agree this update to be mandatory if you use online.

According to Examiner.com, retailer Fry's Electronics will be bundling four of the latest PS3 Greatest Hits titles on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system with the DualShock 3 controller next month.

"For $59.80, the bundle includes a DualShock 3 and one of the four following games: inFamous, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition and Resistance 2.

In order to provide a more efficient and greener console, Sony is shipping new PS3 (CECH-2100A) entertainment systems which now include a cheaper 40nm (CXD5300AGB) RSX GPU that reduces energy output.

This reduction is down from the 90nm and more recently the 65nm RSX graphics processors and moves Sony one step closer to hardware profitability.

According to PocketNews (translated by PlayStationUniversity.com and confirmed by Engadget.com), the PlayStation 3's new improved RSX graphics chip also reduces the likelihood of the console being affected by the infamous PS3 YLOD (yellow light of death) while using 15 percent less power.

Finally, instead of using four 64mb XDR RAM chips it now utilizes two 128mb ones.

"Expect a 15% decrease in overall PS3 power consumption (vs the last PS3 Slim!) thanks to the upgrade, as well as a PS3 that's overall less likely to overheat.

A group of nearly 40 past and present Infinity Ward developers have banded together to file suit against the publishers of Modern Warfare 2 for half a billion dollars, alleging breach of contract and unpaid royalties, according to court documents obtained by G4 TV.com.

The Infinity Ward Employee Group's suit, which lists 38 plaintiffs including some currently employed by Activision at the Infinity Ward studio, is seeking as much as half a billion in unpaid bonuses, royalties, profit sharing and future profits from games such as Modern Warfare 3 and punitive damages.

The suit alleges, according to G4 TV, that the payments were withheld to prevent employees from quitting Activision.

"In short, Activision withheld the property of the IWEG in an attempt to keep the employees hostage so that Activision could reap the benefit of the completion of Modern Warfare 3, " according to the suit.

Reached for comment Tuesday afternoon, an Activision spokesperson refuted the allegations:

"Activision believes the action is without merit," the spokesperson said. "Activision retains the discretion to determine the amount and the schedule of bonus payments for MW2 and has acted consistent with its rights and the law at all times. We look forward to getting judicial confirmation that our position is right."

Former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella filed a lawsuit against their former publisher in March, seeking $36 million unpaid royalties and alleging an "Orwellian," "pre-ordained" investigation designed to "manufacture a basis to fire" the studio founders.

Since the firing of West and Zampella, the two former studio heads have gone on to establish Respawn Entertainment and sign on with Electronic Arts, their formal rival. Dozens of Infinity Ward employees have since voluntarily left the Encino-based studio, with a portion of those departures joining Respawn.
