Kotakuite Captain Fuzzy brought the issue to our attention yesterday. After picking up his copy of Halo: Reach, he decided to spend a little time online going through the campaign with friends, only to find that his 4GB console wasn't capable of doing so.

"When I tried to join them, we got a message saying "One or more players do not have a hard drive which is required for this playlist". Apparently, the 4gb Xbox 360 slim will not allow online co-op because it has a "Memory Unit" and not an HDD. Adding my 16gb flash drives didn't help the case either, I still got the "hard drive is required" message. I can still play online Vs. games, but any co-op like campaign or firefight are locked out to me."'

The support section on Xbox.com has updated with information on Captain Fuzzy's problem as well, giving the following answer to the issue:

One or more players do not have a certified Xbox 360 hard drive attached to their Xbox 360 console. Some multiplayer aspects of Halo: Reach require an Xbox 360 certified hard drive.

While my copy of Halo: Reach doesn't list the hard drive as a requirement, it does contain the line "features and requirements may change without notice," which effectively covers Microsoft's ass in this situation.

The only real recourse Halo: Reach players have now is to pick up an Xbox 360 slim hard disk, which retails for $129.99 at GameStop. That brings the grand total for their Xbox 360 to $329.98, roughly $30 more than just purchasing the 250GB Xbox 360 slim in the first place. So much for getting a bargain.

Holy shiz. I'll assume the game says that an amount of space is required for online play. Since I havent heard enough info like this come out then it must not be a widespread issue(meaning that most people have AT LEAST upgrade their arcade with a sold separately hard drive). Needless to say though, one more selling point to get people to get special edition elites

Yeah, I doubt Microsoft would want to get the PR folks out. It'll likely be fixed in a patch to support memory units of compatible size. Was likely an oversight on Bungie's end.

I'm just confused who in their right mind would actually buy a 360 without a hard drive, and why they even offer them as something other than replacements for people with broken consoles

I often wonder the same thing Atreides. I would think that the people they target with the Arcade models and this HD-less Slim are not the online FPS'er types. Maybe that sounds stupid, but I have the same curiousity. Who would want a system with HD. My 250GB Slim is glory.

The release information came by way of a (now deleted) Bic Camera product page, presumably published a little early:

Release details indicate a February 24th release for Japan, with a ¥7,140 normal edition and a ¥9,975 limited edition with Nendoroid Puchi – previous talk of a 2010 release appears to have been overly optimisitc.

Just whether the promised “improved graphics” will actually result in a game which looks as if it belongs on the PS3 (or even the PS2) rather than the PS1 or PSP is understandably a matter of some concern to fans.

Developer walkthrough/demonstration of the WiiWare remake of La Mulana going on right now. Stream is in Japanese, but still awesome to see how much they've improved the game. Pretty early on as of this posting.

NetFlix hit Canada today, finally....

Aside from me being unable to use it since I'm stuck at 20gb bandwidth a month (fuck ISPs in Canada in general), the interesting bit is PS3 getting a downloadable app for it, rather than the disc offering they had in the States. Probably has to do with Microsoft's little deal only applying to the States, so Sony was free to do what they wanted up here.

Anyways, frig, $7.99 for unlimited movies/shows of what they offer, if I had unlimited bandwidth I'd be all over this.

Only downside is that it's now another bloody icon permanently stuck under my Video tab. Sony needs to just offer these downloads via the Store instead. I don't have a need for their Photo Editor, the Video Editor, PS@Home, or Life w/ Playstation on my XMB.

Better than the opposition in my area which only gives 10gb, no other option. And that's excluding the laughably bad data plans on cell phones.

Just all a money grab on bandwidth usage. I would love for the government to step in and put an end to the bullshit.
