That still doesnt make sense.

Whats the off chance PS3 has something good for you to play every day, every month of every year? Theres still time to play other games. I've bought every system there is up to but not including 360 and PS3, and ive never had a problem finiding time to play every game i've ever wanted to.

Lets look at it the other way, PS3 has shit right now, you dont see everyone reselling, theyre waiting for something big. But something big is only a pipe dream, sure there are titles announced, but that doesnt mean theyll be released this year, or next, or hell, ever at all. MGS might get canned and go to 360 instead.

You never know, you might as well have it sit around collecting dust, because no one knows if 360 or PS3 will be better in the long run anyway.

In that case, I have too many random games that I don't play... and selling those back to GS/EB will result in even less cash returned.

I would say that I have about 2-3 good 360 games, the rest are complete garbage (about 6 of them)... I guess this is why I feel like I don't need it around anymore, especially since 2 of those 3 are being ported over to the PS3.

And sure the PS3 is garbage now, but I still have a decent amount of PS2 RPGs that I still didn't get the chance to go through... so those alone keep me busy for the meanwhile (I mainly got the PS3 at this point to be a PS2 emulator, since my old PS2 died and it made more sense to buy a PS3 than buy a PS2, and then eventually get rid of it for a PS3)... but Motorstorm and the new NBA Street game are both coming out tomorrow, so I guess I will have some use for it.

Same thing goes to the Wii though... I have about 7 or 8 games, and half of them are just plain retarded (like rayman and marvel)... but again, selling them to GS/EB will only give me like 20 dollars at best per game... so is it even worth trading them in?

Again if games are coming out multiplatform, why not go the 360 route. 2 huge advantages over PS3.

Economics call it opportunity cost, and one of its statements say if that 20$ is better to you in a liquidable asset then the form it's in now, then it's worth it. If you dont play the crap, and you need 20$, so be it, is it better to have 20$ cash or a game youll never play again? Its up to you.

Though with the systems id give it some more though, you never know whats gonna come out for the 360, and youll never know whats gonna drop/never come out for years for the PS3. If you dont need the 200$ for something, you might as well keep it around when good games do come out.

Well don't get me wrong, it's not about the system. It's more about the fact that I don't have time to play most of the games I currently own on the 360, and I don't have the PATIENCE to deal with annoying brats on XBLA (I almost never play Xbox Live unless it's with people I've spoken with before, playing with random 10 year olds is just too frustarting for me, hence why I don't play GoW online all that often.)

The main problem I have is that most of my 360 games just suck/have no replay value, so there's no real reason for me to keep supporting them. And sure, I don't need those 20 bucks but I guess you're right... I might as well trade them in and put that money on some games that I will buy rather than just having them sit in my room, collecting dust. But again, if I only have like 2 or 3 good games for the 360 ATM, and the closest one is 5 months away (being Blue Dragon), what's the point of keeping the console around? And yeah, I wouldn't need the 200~ dollars that they would givem e for the 360 either, but at least I would know what I don't have to deal with it anymore because I don't own it... and I don't see me being able to play through all 3 consoles anyways with the amount of games I currently have for each console.

It might be a smart idea to do what Seph said though... I could just cut down all the games that I don't want/play, thus making a rather limited selection from each console, and then just get the really really high end games that I know I would actually do something with, rather than buy everything that moves (which is why I haven't bought VF5 and Sonic yet... the old me would've bought those two instantly, but i'm kind of reassessing the situation since I know that I don't stay consistent with fighting games, and unless the Sonic game is top notch I would get tired of it pretty soon as well.)

I know you said you use PS3 mainly for an emulator atm, but what games are coming out in 5months for it? I took a look at the wiki and the only game I see is AC4, the next being GTA in oct.

To each his own though, I bought an V-Boy (granted for very very cheap), I played it once or twice, but I still kept it just in case a good game came out. I dunno, I dont think I could ever sell a system knowing it was still in its prime.

RUMOR: Phil Harrison's GDC Keynote speech in full detail

Phil hasn't given his speech fo' realz yet, but someone got a hold of a copy of it, or listened in on a rehearsal (do you think they have rehearsals or just wing it?) or something and have compiled a list of key... notes about the speech. Here's what's important:

March 8th is the big firmware update. It includes:
More refined PS Store frontend
PlayStation Network "integrity enhanced"
Wallpapers from pictures
Ability to change background colors
Sony Connect Store for music and movies added to the PS Store. Hundreds of trailers/full films/songs

May we just say one thing? "Superfantabulous!" Sounds like a kickin' keynote address, except for the Heavenly Sword being delayed thing. Sony's This is Living...TV


Just a couple of days prior to the PS3 launch in Europe, Sony decided to resurrect its "This is living" slogan by coming out with a new teaser video clip. It would be remembered that a series of similar clips were released before the delay in that territory was announced.

Anyway, we watched the new video and we can say that Sony hasn't lost its touch when it comes to producing quality and rather eccentric material. But on a deeper level, the video clip is kind of conveying a new message, or perhaps more appropriately, a new service for the PS3.

Please take note that "This is Living" is now "This is Living TV." Phil Harrison mentioned a couple of days ago that they are considering an HDTV movie download for the console. We guess for you to be able to comment on this, or even understand what we are talking about, you have to see the new video first. The Read link should take you to the official site.

PlayStation Home -- there's no place quite like it


Surely many of you have heard of the whole Kotaku vs. Sony debacle. I did, but found it useless to talk about because when I found out about it, Sony had already pulled a "oh, nevermind... we're cool, right?" and it all blew over. With that in mind, we can feel fairly confident in reporting on the initial story that spawned the whole business: the PlayStation Home.

We'll just use the quotes Kotaku used, since that's where the news is at: "Basically, you get to make an avatar for your console (like a Mii) and this avatar has a room. As you play games and accomplish certain tasks, you will receive items with which to adorn the room that are specific to the game (achievements). The kicker is that this is going to be a new requirement for every PS3 game..."

"So we move from product based to service based, starting with packaged product augmented by downloadble content. We'll enhance this with social networks, the MySpace experience, this will be a key part of the PlayStation3 going forward. What brings it to life is the voice chat, the text chat, the video, the social features we're building in for the future." We've already seen that video and voice chat is implemented (albeit poorly), so seeing this new version will be pretty, ah, shibby. Dude, Where's My Car reference. I'm not making that up.

That's about all we can glean from the article, but this is a pretty big deal. Since all I play is Virtua Fighter 5 for now, expect a lot of weird martial arts crap in my room. What do you think your room would look like?

Sony GDC keynote is tomorrow morning we will see if this stuff is true, because if it is I think it will really help sell the PS3. I maybe the only one but i'm excited to hear what they have to say, cause it may determine whether I get a PS3 sooner then later.

Probably the biggest announcement in that rumor is that the backwards compatibly is going to be gone from US consoles as well. Biggest announcement to me anyway... Everything else is just what is already going on, on the 360, and info already known (MGS4, Lair).

This removal of BC is done by taking out the Emotion Engine PS2 chip, and they are just emulating like 360.
So I don't know what you mean.

edit - This is a physical modification to the system. If you have a PS3 with the chip in it obviously they couldn't do it <.<. I am saying this would be a big deal for potential future PS3 owners. Meh, I'd prob keep my sexy silver PS2 anyway.

Oh you mean for the future.... well you said that "they will take backwards out of the US consoles" or something to that extent, so I thought that they mentioned blocking the option off via a firmware update, which would've been dumb.

But yeah, I doubt they will do it for future consoles... unless it actually helps for some ungodly reason. And even if it did help or whatever, people don't want to get stuck with ANOTHER console laying around just because their supposed "next-gen" won't play the previous-gen titles... that's just retarded. (and it sucks for the EU really.)

Yes exactly, and my point was. Even though all those updates are good and grand.
The fact that the Emotion Engine (referred to as EE from now on) will now be gone from US and JP consoles, will outweigh all that other good stuff. Probably also somewhat of a ploy to make people buy a shitload of consoles in March.

Or maybe they're just making that rumor go around to try and bump up their sales... because they know people want the PS3, they just don't want it any time soon. Maybe this way, they can convince more and more people into buying their consoles right NOW.
