Technically MGS3 isn't about Solid Snake.
I guess it makes all the difference in the world when your main character is a badass vs. whiny pussy. I loved Big Boss way more than his son, but I thought the story of MGS3 was just leagues above the first two games.

If you have to "hide" the fact that the main character is changing in the game, odds are the fans probably wouldn't of willingly gone along w/ it.

Come to think of it, I really hated having to play half of Halo 2 as the alien too.
I hated it for different reason. Covenent stage were always similar to the fucking library in Halo1. Long and unoriginal inside stage. Storywise, I think I appreciated it as much as I did in MGS2.
the fact that your allies and your foes looked very similar didn't help either, I'm really hoping there are none of these levels in Halo3

Allies and foes looking similar can be a huge problem in an FPS. I like Halo where players are color-coded, or CS where the CTs are usually dressed in black and the Ts in colored clothing.

It took me a little while with Gears of War online, because I had a lot of trouble telling which team a player was on until I was fairly close to them. Realistic graphics w/ no onscreen indicators =(

totally agree, Big Boss > Solid Snake, he was such a pimp and the Original Boss is probably my favourite enemy character in all the MGS series.

But about changing the main characters, I don't mind it at all, people whine alot about DMC4's sudden change in character for no reason. And people whined loads when RE2 came out and Chris/Jill weren't the main characters. All it takes is a little getting used to, if they keep the same characters regularly you won't mind them so much. But the Halo 2 change in character didn't bother me at all, because I found the entire game pretty boring no matter who I was playing...

I don't mind character changes, I mind buying a game w/ the previous main character on the cover and then finding out you only play as him for the first hour.

I'm all for different perspectives from characters to help drive the story, I'd just rather know in advance so I don't cry false advertising. Everyone knew that the Snake in MGS3 was Big Boss and not Solid Snake, and that the game was taking place in the 60s, so there wasn't a shock there. I wouldn't of really cared because MGS3's story and main character were so increadibly badass, but I probably would've been a little miffed if the cover of the game was of Solid Snake chasing Ocelot in 2007 and found myself in the 60s without warning.

Yeah, I see your point. It still makes me laugh how through 3~ years of development he managed to dupe all of us up until we played through the game...

Well, Kojima had been hinting at the fact that it wasn't Solid Snake for like a year and a half before the game shipped, at the very least. Like you said, everyone knew going into the game that they were going to be playing as Big Boss. And speaking of Konami's secrecy, what's up with Guns of the Patriots? We still don't know very much about it.

Not knowing the story is a good thing.

Looks like they pulled Snake out of retirement for one final mission(ending his own life)

I was talking about playing 85% of MGS2 as Raiden, not Big Boss in MGS3.

ah, well in that case, QFT. I kept thinking, "ok so after this bit it's going to go back to Snake, right?"

Huge news today in Japan as Square Enix announced it reformed business model, and a significant rise in the likelihood of a Final Fantasy VII remake.

Late Wednesday night, on their Japanese web site, Square Enix announced that it will be working under a new business model, focused more on re-releasing existing titles and creating sequels to older games.

This change is no doubt due to the overwhelming success of its latest projects, which have all be remakes of Final Fantasy games for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance platforms. These remakes have done surprisingly well and have prompted Square Enix to look into the remade games further and for other systems as well. As a result, the company has decided that remakes and sequels will do well enough to keep the company in the green for quite some time.

I'd prefer SE concentrated on making great new and original games over going back and revising, reissuing, milking and whoring like Capcom does.

Whatever, a FF7 remake gets me hard as any fanboy, and it's not even my favorite game by any stretch. I'm sure some of their milking and whoring will turn out well, I'm just wary of the Dirge of Cerberus and cellphone game type shit that's bound to turn up.

I would very much like remakes/sequels of FF4/6/7/8/9... but that's just me.

I don't care much for sequels from Square, as the first direct one was nearly unplayable for me (FF-X2, hated story, gameplay was fairly good), but I'm all for actual graphical remakes of older FF games. Remakes are fine in my book, because outside of some horrible accident, I don't have to worry about the quality of the game, since I know the characters/story are already really good.

We just had a discussion in LS though, and more than FF7 we'd love to see an FF6 remake in full 3D. I kinda wished the GBA FF6 had been a DS FF6 instead, w/ the FF3 graphical overhaul treatment. Even a DS remake would be a dream come true. A "FF7 PS3 Tech-Demo" style remake would just absolutely blow my mind away.

To quote Sept, "An FF6 remake would cause me to buy a PS3."

I wonder how many people are expecting all the same characters from the previous game in the sequel of FF(6789101112whatever)?

I hope to god they don't do a sequel, and if they do they need new characters with possible cameos. The only time the same characters is acceptable in a sequel for me is when the story isn't finished and the characters haven't been developed to their full potential.

But remakes are usually always great if it is the same game (basically) with a huge graphical overhaul. It wouldn't be a stretch to say I'd buy all the remade FF games if they came out on whatever next gen console.

I know this is a little late, but why the lol @ limited supply? People only assumed it was limited edition, or in small supplies. Microsoft has already said it's a permanent SKU and will always be available from this point on.
