Khimaira debuff problems

Finally had a chance to fight Khimaira today and found out how much my bard sucks at landing debuffs. Am I the only one that has problems landing Elegy/Threnody? I must have landed 2 Elegy out of 20+ attempts.

My current set-up on BRD is like this so far:

I'm not a brd, but khimaira as annoying magic resist for every debuff (and spell). I think it's normal to have trouble

I'm thinking it might be the case then. Some elitist BRD on my server claims he rarely gets resisted. Not sure if he's blowing smoke or that NQ Melody Earrings have a hidden effect >.>

Bards in my LS tend to land Elegy with about 1/5 accuracy from what I can tell. The BRDs usually just spam Elegy whenever it comes off. Takes between 10-60 seconds to get it back on with 2-3 Bards in the alliance, from what I can tell.

Do you know if your bards merited Wind or Singing? I'm debating if I should downgrade my singing for full wind right now.

If your mostly worried about landing elegy, just use brd/blm with ES

I think there were some tests done on the potency of buffs with singing and wind. I believe it was tested with minuet, but not sure if its the same with debuffs. KI is blocked but it was somewhere on there.

This is what our brds do, seems to last a good 9-10minutes. Speaking of debuffs, ninja debuffs just own Khimera.

I'm a brd most of the time for Khimaira and Khimaira is resistant but it's not impossible. I land maybe 1/5 times, here's my gear. It's all wind+singing with small amounts of chr and mp.

Head: Bard's Roundlet
Neck: Wind/String Torque(Macroed for finale and threnody)
Earring: Wind Earring/Musical Earring
Body: Minstrel's Coat
Hands: Choral Hands
Rings: Heaven's Ring/Tamas Ring
Back: Prisim Cape
Waist: Gleeman's Belt
legs: Choral cannions
Feet: Rostrum Pumps

Nothing special, I'm trying to upgrade my hands and pants but no luck in limbus brd never drops >.<. and I'm 1/3 on Murdak head piece :D lol >_>.

I don't focus on CHR much, I have I believe +28 chr w/o food. I just pop 1 or 2 etudes after a round of songs sing elegy 2-3 times and repeat. It does the job.

IMHO, the only thing that is known for sure is that +singing does help with debuffs. I don't think it's been conclusively demonstrated whether +instrument or +singing counts more or less. My speculation is that they are close, if not equal.

So, there it is. I haven't seen anything I believe more; if you have, please link it! I certainly wear AF+1 hands over AF2+1 (I have both). And with the exception of body, if I can go for either singing or wind over CHR in a spot, I do so. Even using Astute Cape over Jester's+1, at least when /WHM, since it gives me both skill and MP.

I went for 4 singing and 4 wind, mostly because of these tests and the fact that it cost me fewer merits than 8 wind (I had this almost capped by the time ToAU came out, and I don't like to feel I'm wasting merits in any case, no matter how much exp/hour I can get). Unfortunately, I haven't done Khimaira yet, so I can't really talk about that, but my resist rates on most other stuff are pretty low. Certainly lower than when I had more CHR and less +skill.

I have never been able to land a threnody on Khimaira; my guess is that it has a full resist.

Elegy, on the other hand, is fairly easy to land.

As others have said, sub BLM. Our BRDs go to Cerberus as /BLM and the fight is a breeze for our tanks with ES Elegy and ES Slow II. Sometimes our RDMs actually land Para II on Cerb and it procs fairly well, although this thread isn't about Cerb.

Thanks. I have the AF1+1 and got the AF2-1 piece on Saturday (gotta go to the next Bastok now ) and was wondering if it would actually be worth using it.

What's your set up and sub job for this? Cause I talked to the other BRDs in my LS and they have the same problems just like me.
