Haste is pretty much going to be the best in any situation, since Haste+5% is basically the same as a piece of gear that had:

    Physical Damage Dealt: +5%
    TP Gain: +5%
    Spell Recast Time: -5%

So whatever +attack or accuracy you'd get from other gear, it would need to outweigh those benefits above. And in some situations, a little extra attack may very well be Physical Damage Dealt: +6%, though in reality it'd have to be higher to account for the unchanged TP rate.

Obviously it depends on what youre fighting, and what kind of setup youre using. I've parsed plenty of merit pts trying to compare Black Cuisses to Homam Legs. STR+4 Attack+14 vs Acc+3 Haste+3%. There isn't a standard answer, as both can be situationalli better than the other. Personalli on Ninja I use Koga Tekko+1 and switch to N. Kote or Dusk when STR/Haste isn't active.

On topic... Meleeing in Hecatomb even on 'hard' mobs is kinda dumb imo :/ I can't realli think of a situation where having STR+6-12 is gonna outweigh the slow.

I use it on Nidhogg, Kirin, and sometimes Fafnir when i'm on THF. When your melee swings are pretty much irrelevant anyway, and the only thing that matters is not hitting for 0, the extra Attack, STR, and DEX will outweigh the slow for TP gain.

I can realli only speak for myself on DRK. But it appears the times I'm hitting for 0 or just very low numbers, is due to my attack being signifigantly lower than the mobs. Negating the fact STR adds Attack... the STR itself shouldn't help you if you're hitting 0s. (If I understand the melee damage formula, when youre hitting 0s, your pdif is hitting the low range when your attack is half of the mobs defense.) Of course each piece of Hecatomb does add 3-6 attack from the STR... but at the cost of 4-9% slow. It would appear to ruin your overall damage and give you slower TP gain. Instead of trying to get 15 extra attack (which will barely move the attack/defense ratio in this case) for like 20% slow... it would appear optimal to load up on haste and try to swing more often and hope for higher range pdif hits that give tp. The only piece which I feel is an expcetion to that is legs... cause 20 Attack could make a big difference. But like someone else posted, dusk legs are probably a better alternative.

You could look at it this way for pure damage

    For instance turban vs o.hat.

    No headpiece
    Attacks: 20 times per minute
    Damage per swing: 60
    Accuracy: 75%
    results in
    15 hits towards TP
    900 damage total

    Optical Hat
    Attacks: 20 times per swing
    Damage per swing: 60
    Accuracy: 75% ---> 80% due to 10 accuracy
    16 hits towards TP
    960 damage total

    Turban 5%
    Attacks : 20 ---> 21 swings due to 5% turban haste
    Damage per swing: 60
    Accuracy: 75%
    15.75 hits towards TP (average)
    945 damage total

In my make believe scenario, its marginal but O.Hat would slightly win out. Of course you don't get the added benefit of recasts and it'd be pointless if you didnt get that extra combat round in. Just giving scenarios where one can be better than the other.

edit: course I don't know if 10 acc would give you that extra 5% accuracy, yay for pulling numbers out of my ass.

lol, i was talking about this on vent last night.

Anyone who tps in hecatomb doesn't deserve it. There was an asuran DRG who posted on the DRG forums, arguing with everyone that tp'ing in a heca harness isn't bad.

I should also add that I've recently acquired Dusk Gloves and Dusk Ledelsens. So where I used to use Hecatomb for an indirect STR bonus, Dusk obviously gives a clear advantage since it provides both haste and a direct attack boost. Oh, and Dragon Harness >>> Hecatomb of course.

Not what I've heard from many nins whose word I trust.
In meritpo eating meat I'm already at the attack cap when berserk is up, B/O/H Kotes have litterally 0 impact on my damage output for 3/5 of the time. Dusk Gloves (+1 in my case) give me a damage boost.

If you want to talk about the 2/5 of the time when berserk isn't up, then B/O/H kotes might do something.

So far I'm 50/50 on outparsing Ridills. Of course the 50% I loose to are wars, the 50% I beat are darks.

Last meritpo, on trolls I parsed 84% accuracy eating meat with 21% haste. The other ninja in the party did 88k (20% haste, eating sushi, 94% accuracy) total damage to my 100k, the warrior that was with us did about 80k.

    the love-halberd dragoon did 89k +15k (wyvern)....I lost...to a dragoon...

    lol

Personally, I wouldn't use haste gear with such low accuracy. If you don't hit enough, the haste only helps with recast timers.

You're at 700-750 att with berserk? Time to drop a minuet for another march, and keep wearing those b/o kote.
