ban was no brainer
Hmm, I'm going to stick with the fact that only 4 people tops made comments about the typing while 30+ (didn't count every user but with this many pages it's around that or way more) couldn't care less as not being "ban was no brainer".
I guess i was more focused on what was being said because it made sense, was a good argument and addressing many issues with ffxi, rather then the "style" it was said in. Sure html code with maybe some underlines or bold, or even font size adjust would have been nice, and would have made the posts more attractive, but it was far from bad enough to warrent being made into such a big deal.
And if it's one thing my design classes in the past has taught me, is what is actually hard for the human eye to read.
I'm going to use some example now:
Typing like this-> IS HARD FOR THE HUMAN EYE TO READ QUICKLY. It puts a lot of strain on the eyes because you almost have to look at every single letter. The eye uses memory for most of its reading which is why skimming is possible. Because you remember the "shape" of words, therefore you eye doesn't have to concentrate so hard.
Or even what people do on other sites where-> ThEy TyPe LiKe ThIS. Where they randomly capitalise every other letter. It confuses the eye because it changes teh shape of words that we remember. So our eye has to pay more attention.
But to type like-> THIS is hardly that big of a deal that SOME people are making it our to be. People do this all the time, except with this guys case, he did it more often. But still, to make a huuuuuuge deal and ban him for it it very silly, just like others have said.
The 2 first examples are truly what the human eye has a hard time reading, numerous studies agree. The 3rd example is not hard for the eye to read, but it is unattractive. But why drag someone into a fight just because you personally don't care for it? Especially in like 20 pages no one else has even said anything about it?
Leads me to think that the few who can't seem to comprehend it, and somehow unable to read what the rest of us can, are being a bit dramatic if not out right...

I just skipped his posts, on a side note a forum black list would be nice tho.
So people can make "Why did you reply to so and so?! I have him ignored!" posts.
Yes, wonderful idea.
Sigh... There is are many ways to implement the suggestion i mentioned you know?. Or probably you don't; which is why you replied like that.
Yea, and people who reply all the time like that with smart remarks when they could have just moved right along are what cause the drama lol.

Why is the grammatical errors such a big deal here...or is it just a sad attempt to derail or stop someone's arguement?

Personally I hate reading things that have a ton of grammatical errors in them. Some are ok, like stuff people don't do out of laziness.Originally Posted by Firas_Gattz

That being said I never really minded that guys posts, a lot of them just looked like wall of texts to me with a guy trying to emphasize way too many things at once. So I never read half of what he posted.
So here is my question if you seen that lolzaminfo, Who actually believes SE is going to raise the drop rates from end-game mobs?
Operation tl;dr
Alright, borrowing from a few pages back for an attempted rerail the derail. The bold part is so true. For the longest time I talked shit about WoW as an FFXI player because you're a turncoat for even considering such an 'easy' game. After giving WoW a shot I was very pissed at SE. With FFXI being my first MMORPG I just assumed some of their shit was par for the course. Looking back I think too much of the FFXI community looks at SE with the love goggles on and are in completely denial about how lazy SE is.Originally Posted by Siatdiat
Forget the mechanics of the two games. They are hard to compare because they are very different games, but the things that struck me most in WoW were the following:
1) Windowable
It's windowable and guess what? Not everyone and their dog is cheating. When someone cheats they get bansticked. Meanwhile SE uses cheating as their scapegoat for windower apathy while letting cheating run rampant. The fact that they are now giving in just sheers more away from their credibility.
2) Addons
Who knew that a game could completely accept the use of things like TParty and Bloodpace without the devs getting butthurt? Blizz sets rules and you can add whatever you want within those rules. They aren't asking you the equivalent to timing your BPs with a stopwatch because Bloodpace would be unfair for PS2 players.
3) Dev communication
You can actually have some dialogue with the Blizzard devs. Sure the official forums are a festering pile of shit in the style of FFXI Alla, but at least the devs are visible and talking to people as well as making announcements and clarifications.
4) GMs do something
Not a lot of experience with this, but I've heard only good things. The only time you hear a GM brought up in FFXI is when they fuck someone over OR they do the amazing 1/100,000 good deed and everyone licks their asshole for it. It's like giving a lady a prize because "Congratulations!!! You fed your kid today!!!" The fact that GMs doing stuff is threadworthy shows how shitty GMs are.
So those are issues that have shit to do with the differences in the games. Those are issues about how well the game is run from a business perspective. These are commonalities and when you stop making SEs excuses for them you realize how lazy they are in these areas.
As for the next update... I'm not expecting much and have learned to expect as little as possible. Remember when we all thought they were gonna fix Ulli? Sure SE is really working on fixing stuff now, but it's too little too late imo. They come across as desperate to me. Kinda like a guy whose wife is gonna walk out on him so he starts suddenly buying her flowers and paying her compliments instead of treating her like shit and taking her for granted. It's insincere.
SE seems more like a guy that knows he's got cancer and he's gonna die, but he wants to milk life for as much has he can. In the last year I think SE has noticed a decline in population and they probably have realized that being apathetic and making bonehead mistakes (like the BST nerf and ignoring RMT until the economy is destroyed) are gonna hurt them. I think they are trying to figure out how to hold on to what they have because the influx of new players is definitely dwindling.
Rocl lets fuck and make an unstopable BG forums posting baby.
Edit: was some sort of double post, and i cant seem to delete it.
I couldnt agree with this one more. People seem to have accepted SE slacking as the norm. And think its ok to not have change, and still do the same exact tasks for more then 3 years, then cant understand why people complain.Looking back I think too much of the FFXI community looks at SE with the love goggles on and are in completely denial about how lazy SE is.
Oh well!
It does seem like SE is trying to do something about it. FFXI simply doesnt have the user base it had long ago. especially with the number of banned accounts, SE is losing money point blank. And i see this threat as a call to action for SE, but its almost 3 years too late. They have to add kick ass content at this point to even try to make up for it. So i think how people take them from now on, will entirely depend on this content in the new assault zones.
SE can't even answer simple questions that were sent to them in November and its March(lol), this is after they told Bercus "we want to do this monthly". I think it just says a lot about SE that they failed to do something so simple. SE couldn't even make their mid-week answer to their most hardcore players of their game.
I've questioned how much of it is the bannings and how much of it is just people leaving. Mid-game is far less populated than it used to be and a simple /sea all that would've yielded nearly 4000 during primetime 2 years ago usually falls in the 2000-2500 range these days. I think SE needs to hold onto their asses because as the game ages it is bring in less and less new players and they are realizing they need to keep their current playerbase at any cost.Originally Posted by FinalJustice
What I'm curious about is how an official windower is going to really affect things. We all know that probably a vast majority of players use a windower these days and if SE had banned them all they would've shot themselves in the foot. However, SE turned a blind eye and now beyond just the windowing ability people are addicted to their unlimited macros and things like being able to see the full alliance's MP. It's almost ridiculous that we should have to part with some of that. This is especially true for jobs like RDM in a game where any one piece of gear is only marginally better than another which forces you to macro around a ton of situational gear.
So will SE start cracking down on Azaril users? I think they would still be shooting themselves in the foot now to start getting hardcore against old windower users. I personally don't want to play crippled just because SE is too ignorant to allow us a decent amount of macro space which forces me to use 4 individual macros to put on gear.
It would be like going back to cleaning a floor with a toothbrush after getting accustomed to using a mop.
I used to be one of these.. hated WoW for not being FFXI. I finally got fed up with FFXI. After playing since day 1 of PC release, I finally took off the love goggles & realized everything that made FFXI an inferior experience. I actually played past level 10, unlike MANY people (level 55 now, woohoo!)Originally Posted by Yeargdribble
They *can* still fix things... the only reason I haven't cancelled my account is because I still have that eensy teensy glimmer of hope that they'll swallow their pride and overhaul the entire game.
I'm still thinking many more people need to take off the lovegoggles before it gets to that, though... many who are still diehard about FFXI are like battered wives. They just don't get it, no matter how many blackeyes SE gives you.
