This argument is retarded now. Somewhere along the line, "emo" picked up a negative connotation and people grossly misuse the word. Emo simply means "emotional" and pretty much every band/musical artist has an emotional side to their music. As far as I know, even acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Between The Buried and Me and tons of other metal/harder acts have emotional lyrics and acoustic songs.

Fallout Boy is not emo. Fallout Boy is pop punk. Some examples of "emo" bands are Dashboard Confessional, newer Brand New and so on. Linkin Park is not emo. AFI is far from emo.

It seems to me that the only people who criticize the genre or whatever it is are the ones with no musical background or are generally intolerant. Music is music, leave it at that. Learn to separate the way depressed little teenie boppers dress and act from the actual music. It's a culture just like rap/urban life is a culture, deal with it.

And for the record, I do not have long black hair/bangs/coke bottle glasses/tight pants. I'm just sick of the word "emo" being thrown around negatively, especially when alot of the music is pretty decent.

The kids that are seriously depressed should get help. The ones that cry for attention shoukd continue to do so if that's what they want to do. But they should realize what's OK to do (listen to sad music, write sad poems, lyrics, etc.) and what is a serious health issue (depression, cutting yourself, suicide, etc.). That's my take on it.
