Did you even read the fucking Wiki page? And it's not a fact that ATDI has nothing to do with emo. Stop blindly believing things because a band you like might possibly have influenced a musical genre you dislike for no real reason. It's like talking to a brick wall, good God.

lol wtf? that really explained nothing. the only thing it explained is where the origin of the word came from, the rest was random dates of bands being started saying "hi were emo". they kept describing other styles of music like post-punk, metalcore, and melodic hardcore, and then go to say these bands were emo. sooooo... whats even funnier was this quote about the original "creator" of "emo" .... He responded: "I don't recognize that attribution. I've never recognized 'emo' as a genre of music. I always thought it was the most retarded term ever. I know there is this generic commonplace that every band that gets labeled with that term hates it. They feel scandalized by it. But honestly, I just thought that all the bands I played in were punk rock bands. The reason I think it's so stupid is that - what, like the Bad Brains weren't emotional? thats kinda funny. so emo after all of this isnt a music genre, though it being argued as trying to be one. this term just needs to be ridden of all ready. it means nothing.

Grunge fans in the Pacific Northwest believed that the media gave excessive importance to the clothing worn by grunge musicians and fans, along with other aspects of the local culture. Clothing commonly worn by grunge fans in the Northwest in its early years was a blend of the punk aesthetic with the typical outdoorsy clothing (most notably flannel shirts) of the region. The "fashion" did not evolve out of a conscious attempt to create an appealing fashion, but due to the inexpensiveness of such clothes and the warmth that they provided for the cold climate of the region. The media, rather than focusing on the music, would give this fashion a heavy amount of exposure. In the early 1990s, the fashion industry marketed "grunge fashion" to a widespread audience, charging relatively high prices for clothing that they assumed to be popular in the grunge scene. Similarly, the media would view grunge as a whole culture, assuming it to be Generation X's attempt to create a culture similar to the hippie counterculture of the previous generation. Rather than focus on the music, much of the media focused on other superficial aspects of the musicians and fans. An interesting case of this superficiality backfiring on the media was the grunge speak hoax, which caused The New York Times to print a fake list of slang terms that supposedly were used in the grunge scene. This was later proven to be a prank by Sub Pop's Megan Jasper. The excesses of this media hype would also be documented in the 1996 documentary Hype!.[3]

i agree AFI isnt emo they started out as punk and slowly moved to a darker side, not quite emo more goth rock like HIM, totally different sound but same image.

I have to state my opinion's credentials before this statement:

I work for a hard rock / metal radio station in Philadelphia, and though we do have programming that includes everything under the sun...MY portion is 2 shows that specifically stick to hard rock and metal (Loud and Local, Hell on Wheels). I'm a huge fan of bands to the likes of Chimera (I always spell their name wrong), Bleeding Through, Pantera (of fucking course), Fear Factory, Sepultura, Trivium, and my personal all time favorite - Dillinger Escape Plan.

Now, that being said...my favorite bands are more diverse than just DEP. They also include Sneaker Pimps (not metal at all), the Cure, Misfits (argueably metal, though punk rooted - and still recognized as pioneers of the rock industry) as well as HIM.

HIM is an all time favorite of mine. Same as AFI, if you can open your mind beyond appearences, the music speaks for itself.

Razorblade Romance brought fourth a passionate and well written arsenal of songs that challenged the assembly line of platinum sellers that had less origininality or meaning then they did soul.

ps - did anyone hear the Matt and Huggy show (94.1 WYSP) when Matt - and then followed by Kidd Chris - DESTROYED the glorified groupie skanks known as the "Metal Twins"?

i agree with alot of what you said here sir. i laughed when you said love metal >.> i know they call themselves that. i just hate saying it. cuz im sure if any other band called themselves love metal HIM would have a huge fit <.< but yes they are "love metal" lol AFI is good stuff, 3-4 years ago i use to listen to those bands religiously. not so much anymore, but theyre still good.
