Ugh, not even in the same league as some of the other suggestions in this thread. I watched the first episode based on someone's recommendation, and I was really disappointed. It was a half hour of crappy animation, boner jokes, unlikable characters, and an almost rape scene. Does it actually get better later on?

It gets much much better; becomes somewhat of an allegory on the atrocities that man can commit. The characters are very well done and Kurono (who seems to turn people off from the show based on his actions at the beginning) matures quite a bit, becoming much more likeable. I highly recommend it ;3.

You should definitely read the manga. The anime was produced pretty bad but GANTZ is by far one of the best still running today, much better than BLEACH and Naruto.

Anyone know any good animes that are worth watching that arent the mainstream ones(ie naruto, death note, bleach etc.) some of the ones that dont get alot of spotlight. Some of the anime I've watched recently is Blood+, peace maker kurogane, and shingetsutan tsukihime(I like vampires lol).

Any suggestions would be awesome, just need something to watch to suck up time while sitting around at home.

Welcome to the NHK is good overall, and a nice perspective on various japanese subcultures (otaku, hikikomori, sucicide pacts, etc). Venus Versus Virus has some good potential as well, but they just started subbing that recent. Also, if you can find a torrent of it, get The Melacholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, great shit!

Welcome to the NHK was good, but I found it quite boring and bland at somes points. Although it was overall pretty sweet, some parts just weren't really exciting at all.

Unlike Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya which is 100% win.

I thought oppositely; found NHK to be a lot better, HS was good, but I thought it was overrated.

Yeah, hehe, I've read every chapter that's been released so far :D (up to 244 translated I believe ;3); it's easily one of the best if not THE BEST manga I've ever read, and I've read alot ;o.

Mecha series tend to do good I kind of curious if they stoped making Gundam anime's now after seeing how horrible SEED was .

I don't know many people who would consider Seed bad, actually, I don't know anyone at all.

Personally, I hate mechas, but mixing them in with good story makes it tolerable, which is why I like seed and geass <.<
