K, so help me out here, help me understand why some people think human beings are not animals.

Is it because we are the only ones with red blood?

Seriously, and some even argue we aren't animals because we're smarter... BECAUSE WE'RE SMARTER. Lets not forget that intellenge is absolutly objective, and that lets not forget that this statement apperently ignores the fact that any one creature on this planet, given enough time, could develope to the point of reaching higher intellegence.

Take the quote: "You're an animal!" Of course, you are indeed an animal-- But the quote insinuates something else.

Secondy.. your Blood is actually Blue/Purple and turns red when it comes in contact with Oxygen. (Hence why some of your Veins appear purple and Blue)

Thats so wrong. Your blood isn't blue/purple, the capillary and artery walls are often blue/purple. This is such a common misconception. Your blood is ALWAYS deep red.

Believe it or not there are people who have claimed that we are not animals, had argument today in college, apperently this guy thought we aren't animals because we are smarter.

Whats even more surprising is, half the class agreed with him. Not to mention long ago in the vegetarian thread we had here, a few dickwads were running around claiming we aren't animals.

And the first 2 lines were sarcastic jabs, jesus people.

Actually, my brother is a fundamentalist Christian, we have heard this argument in the past. The general consensus among the extreme right-wing is that if people admit that humans are "animals", that is one slippery slope away from admitting that evolution exists.

The long and the short of the story is that you cannot present a rational argument to people who believe this since they are not swayed by reason. You are best served to walk away from them or steer the topic of conversation to something that they would feel more comfortable talking about, like the geocentric universe or the moon being made of green cheese.

I think Rotsu ment that as "Humans are classified as mammals[, which are animals]." kind of statement.
