    few quick hardware questions

my old comp died power supply is fried waste of cash to replace it so iam ganna try and put some of the old stuff in my new comp

    now heres the question

i wanna stick in an old ati 9600 all in wonder just to use it for its TV tuner would i be able to use it just for that?

i have nvidia7950 gt oc in there right now witch i can hook up a tv to but only has plugs for HDTV's and none of the old yellow red and white wires my derect tv uses

second question is will i be able to put in my old harddrive

old harddrive has the old strip looking cable new 1 dosent seem to use that but there is room for 2 more harddrives in the tower

side facing out all i saw was the powersupply wires goin to it and ive never seen that befor all the comps ive worked with are 2-3+ years old and they have all had a strip wire

    3rd questiion

iam goin to need more power for the second hardrive and the only close free cable i have pluged into my graphics card atm so do stores make like extendors or somthing(iam good with software but iam pretty much lost when it comes to hardware so if this is a dumb question plz forgive me)

    1) depends on what kinda card your old video card is, AGP? prolly not since modern mother boards have pretty much dropped those in favor of pciexpress, and theres only one of those slots on most motherboards anyways (AGPslots) so if your current card is AGP too, you're screwed.

    2) yes you should be able too, if you look your cd/dvd-rom drive should be running on those stripey cables (IDE) and there should be a second connector, make sure you have your jumpers set to Cable Select on your hard drive, usually you'll see a diagram showing which way to put the jumper on, on the top of the hard drive

    3) that depends on the power of your powersupply now...

The old hard drive cables are IDE cables and the new ones are SATA (serial-ATA) cables. New motherboards like mine come with a shit load of SATA ports but only 1 IDE. You can put a Hard drive and a CD/DVD rom on the same IDE cable. It might slow down a bit but it's def. do-able.

Edit: I missed what you typed under the pics about your dvd burner being SATA. That's even better, just leave that alone, get a new power supply, throw the old cards in and get an IDE cable for your hard drive and you should be set.

Yup, as long as they're not damaged they'll work fine.

You're planning on still using the new and old hard drives yeah? Just pull the jumper pin out of the back of your one w/vista on it and make that the primary(which it probably already is) and set old hard drive to be a slave, slap 'em in and you're set.

Look for a pin hole on the front plate and stick a paper clip in it.
