Basically, Sony didn't put the rumble feature in the PS3 because they didn't want to pay the company which held the patent, and claimed that the six-axis motion control made a rumble feature impossible. Now, however, they're happy to announce they've made up with the company, and suddenly a rumble feature is possible in the controller. They also said a rumble-feature was last generation and not what the players, wanted less than 3 days ago.

Its good news in the sense that the PS3 will probably eventually get a rumble feature back, bad news in the sense that Sony lies whenever it sees fit.

Sony were the ones that screwed up here. Instead of being silent and going with the usual "no comment" response and letting this rumor drop to the ground as just that, Sony gets it panties in a bunch and as a result, bumps what was just a rumor to a reality.
