Id have to say 6 by far. I still miss the old school, just fantasy FFs; not the "Magic against machine" and emo hype of teenagers in some of the more recent ones.

I started with FF1 on went on from there. Played FF2, 3, 5 on translated roms. Never finished X-2 though, got too annoying so that's the only FF I haven't beaten besides the ones on alternative systems (GBA, etc)

Music plays a huge part for me since I have to listen it for the duration of my game play.

    My list probably go:

    1) VI - most memorable characters with great pacing on development. Great gameplay system. Second favorite music.
    2) VIII - liked the music from this game the most, gameplay except length summoning animations, liked the storyline.
    3) V - not much character development (maybe poor translation?) but the gameplay system was fun as hell.
    4) VII
    5) IV
    6) FFT
    7) X
    8) IX
    9) XII
    10) X-2

Funny I thought one of FF6's primary theme was about technology vs. magic and humans desire to tame the unknown.

Not to mention one of the characters gets so depressed she attempts suicide :/

(Can't really blame her in that situation though)

Not every depressed character is 'emo'.

Yeah, I didn't really think about it too much until you said that... I suppose you're right. I just couldn't stand how Cloud/FF8's dude was; both of them were just so pussy it was crazy.

Cloud was probably the least emo of the PS-era main characters though. I mean seriously, when you have a hero like Tidus, you're pretty much writing EMO all over your storyline.

I wouldn't really call Zidane emo. The only section you can pin that too is after he finds out he's been made by Garland to destroy the planet and that only lasts for like 5 minutes. Zidane usually seemed to be pretty cheerful >_>

The music while he's being emo also makes up for it.

Please please please, never compliment X-2 again, anyone.

The graphics and soundtrack were inferior to X, which isn't acceptable for the next installment in a game series.

The characters weren't realistic at all. I can allow for character development over the two year period between games...but...no. Just no.

And, get ready for some sentimental shit, Yuna didn't whistle.

I remember Tidus saying something along the lines of, "Whistle and no matter what, I'll be there for you."

I don't recall the exact circumstances because it's been quite a while. But I believe Yuna woke up in the farplane and she was distressed to the point of almost crying and she had no idea what was going on.

    She didn't whistle.

I played FFX-2 just to say that I was a true FF fan. To say that I had played all the games.

But that was the point when I had to disown the game.

    FFX-2 is dead to me.

    Yuna should have whistled.

And Paine shouldn't steal Auron's lines.

    "It comes!"

Yeah, one of the most badass FF players of all time can say that when a badass monster is about to beat your ass. Someone who is gender confused cannot say it on the first boss of the game.

I want a deep, complex, beautiful rpg. Not a game designed for japanese school girls.

Play the game without the bias of "omg If my friends see my play this they'll call me a fag", and you'll see she did indeed whistle.

The story was lighthearted, not serious business, and fun, and the further the chapters go the more serious the game gets.

I love when people bash it and say there was no deep storyline when they completely ignore the fact that the last 40% of the game was no longer about cream puffs and donuts.

Haha, the bias was non-existent. I got the game, told my friends, they had their laughs, and that was that.

I don't recall her whistling...and I beat the game, but like I said, it's been a very long while. I don't doubt that you're telling the truth. But even if it wasn't that part, there was a part where she should have whistled, yet she didn't. And it would have fit perfectly enough to actually upset me that it wasn't there.

If I want lighthearted fun I'll play KH. Which I did. But that's not my idea of a FF game. It's like, "Hey, Resident Evil and Silent Hill should have comedy in them". Keep the content appropriate for the game.

    -----

More sentimental, ready for it? That island at the beginning of KH made me happy. The darkness made the happy go away. I played through the game just to get the happy back. The happy never came.

Just like the ending to FFX, the ending to KH left me feeling cheated. You go on this quest to save the world and you can't even be with the person you did it all for.

    -----

But back on track, I beat FFX-2. It never redeemed itself for me.

I'm sorry that I couldn't find any value in the storyline like you seem to have. I just recalled a horrible speech by Yuna near the end, right before Vegnagun, so I looked up the game script to use it as an argument. But what she said was actually pretty touching. So perhaps it was shitty voice actors.

Everyone knows FFX-2 isn't good story wise, it's pretty much a regular RPG in that sense, however how can graphics were worse? The graphics were even better, they were fluid and seemless in the way they overlapped attacks. The music was great as well, since it was based on FFX I don't see how they could do worse, it's just you didn't like it. I found some of the original tracks to be very good.

Telling people not to compliment X-2 is stupid, because while it wasn't the best FF game people recongize how awesome the battle system is (even the Sailormoon-esque job/costume changes) and how much of a step above most ATB systems used it was.

And like Wafik said, all RPGs start out like FFX-2, light hearted and fun while gradually getting more and more serious. Hell, even pure comedy RPGs are like that (any NIS game) and those have all the stupid "bring back the happy" moments you so seem to love.

And who said RPGs can't have lighthearted fun? If it's in the story it is appropiate, what's not appropiate is seeing Yuna strip off and have lesbian sex with Riku and Paine...well I'd like to see that in any case. Also, RE does have funny moments/light hearted moments in it, have you never played an RE game?

How can you say the ending to KH cheated you? It was so very obvious that the story wasn't finished yet (the secret movie should've told you that), and yet, it did have a happy ending but bittersweet. I was more satisfied with the ending of KH1 then I was with KH2.

And finally, the Voice actors in FFX(-2) weren't that bad, it's just that the script was mostly done wrong and the characters weren't protrayed right. FFX was around the time where voice actors stopped being completely embarasing and slowly became more and more accepted, now it's pretty much standard to have voice acting in your game. So even if most people hate the VAs in FFX I like and respect what they did because once people see that FFs have moved onto VA, everyone does. That makes me happy.

Considering it used the exact same graphics engine that FF10 used, and even re-used many of the same towns, I don't know how anyone can complain the graphics were a step-back.

Story was a bit lame, but it wasn't that bad overall. I more or less couldn't take the girly-girly aspect of it.
